I was a musician back in the dawn of time, but then immersed myself in the practice of medicine for 40 years. I lost track of music, but now I'm retired. I've stuck my head out the window, and there didn't seem to be much quality out there. Then, while watching "Limitless", the series, not the movie, I heard a snippet of "Green Theme" which they used to set the mood of a particularly poignant scene. Man, there IS something going on. I've been lost in these guys since, wondering how it was that, even as busy as I was, I hadn't heard of them. But I asked my 30 year old son, who's deep into music in San Francisco if he'd heard them, and neither had he. Are they a regional phenomenon? I don't get it. Thank god I ran into them. At 71 I still like a good shred and thrash now and then, but their musicality and melodic sense goes beyond anything else "metal."
There’s as much good music now as there ever was. Everything around the music has changed, that’s all. “Quality” (subjective, of course) has never been a predictor of fame. Baroness are a very successful band - they all make their living playing music and have a devoted, passionate fan base. Glad you found them - I love them too.
There are so so many awesome bands out there but fall through the cracks understandably because of so many of them😮 If you want it bad enough though & keep fighting for what makes you happy rather than living like a zombie🧟♀️ & working 7-3pm or 9-5pm etc & going home & doing the same thing & rinse & repeat 😑… Stay safe everyone & cheers 🍻 from🇨🇦🍁
This kind of makes me wish we had the MTV from the 90's. There are so many bands I wish had made an MTV Unplugged. Baroness just shot to the top of that list.
Twerk, that comment is sexist. It's true that she's female, but she's also from a different decade from the original members and she's also from a different city, so they don't have many things is common. They are different. And yet, she fits in and Baroness is better with her.
@@twerktospec I'm not. There are dozens of examples of bands that took on a new member and he never managed to fit. It doesn't matter if they were male or female. Sometimes different people don't fit in an established band. Most people don't take well to change.
God I wish there'd be an acoustic part in every live show. And a whole album of this! Some of the most beautiful tunes I've ever had the pleasure to listen to
@@cloudsss83 Jerry and Layne are the kings of that shit. John and Gina are awesome together tho no doubt, their voices match so well. I wish they let Gina sing more on the album tho similar to AIC, Jerry sang nonstop back up vocals plus got to lead some songs here and there those were always great, I wish Gina could have the same vocal role Jerry did back in the day when Layne was alive. Anyway they’re awesome together, damn good live and their voices just work perfectly together.
I love it when Baroness plays accoustic songs/sets! It just levels up the americana influence they've always had within their sound, but often passes by unnoticed
I was literally just thinking that about the time Gina broke off into her solo and I ALMOST started to wonder and was immediately slapped into place...and then she just took it 2 levels further and higher than I've ever heard it b4 and into "black rose on the bed" and they owned me per usual.
I'm really not sure what I just saw right her. How's it possible to play this acoustic strings as perfect and straight as any electric guitar and sing like a godess at the same time? I haven't heard any better version of Chlorine & Wine or March to the Sea yet. Oh Gina please let me be your disciple.
Alice In Chains unplugged is godly. I wish Gina got to have the same role as Jerry vocally, Layne was obviously the lead singer but Jerry was always doing backing/secondary vocals but he also got to do the lead singing in some songs, I’d really like to hear a baroness song with Gina doing the lead vocals. Anyway this is a great performance I’m right there with you.
Can anybody help me figure out what kind of guitar a John is playing? Does it sound like bronze strings that he is using? Please help I dont know enough about acoustic guitar to tell but I'm dying to know. Thanks. Oh yeah and if any body knoea Gina's set up, that would be great if you could help with that too.✌
this seems to me the way they write songs...( or I could be dead wrong ) ....maybe this should be the medium sometimes as well..also love the electric ...sounds great....
This was freaking great😍 anyone know what kind of guitar John is playing? Dont recognize the logo on the headstock... whatever it is it sounds beautiful.
@@johnmayhew4833 no worries, I was thinking the same thing. Lovely sounding/looking guitar. There's another video where you can see the headstock more clearly, although not 100%
@@Smashlites Nice ill look for it. it’d be sweet if john did a solo acoustic album apart from baroness or something in that range. Seems like an untapped side of his music.
So good, I don’t think it would’ve been possible for them to get someone better than Gina for the band, she is awesome and was the perfect fit. Most importantly as seen in this video John and Gina have great chemistry which is very important. Anyway this was a great person, Gina was shredding during that March to the sea chorus, looked pretty difficult to play. Great video from a great band
The fact that these songs work so goddamn well acoustically shows how strong the songwriting is.
for sure, though i bet they wrote them on acoustic guitars first anyway
@@gnarzikans definitely sounds like that !
Fact. I’ve seen a lot of bands try and fail miserably. Baroness is top notch.
They make it work so well because they aren't trying to play the album version, they tailor the song for the acoustic performance.
Do they work? Not so sure.

Baroness and the GOASTT would be great
With this, there sort of is no need. We got it. And I am happy

The chemistry between these two is unreal, two insanely talented artists
‘EULA’ is fucking amazing. Maybe my favorite Baroness song and stripped down sounds amazing. Gina really brings it all together.
Couldn't agree more, first time I heard that song I had to put it on loop for the rest of the day - I simply couldn't get enough of it!

05:58 Chlorine & Wine
13:35 Cold-Blooded Angels
21:00 Eula

thank you
thank you kind sir
Chlorine And Wine has been a deep song for me for a long time for some personal reasons. Chills listening too it here...
I feel you.
KaneMaster89 Found this dude Pierre who did a drum cover of it and I decided to fill in the rest. th-cam.com/video/Tk8FeTxRAcc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for leaving the compressors at home.
I laughed.
The acoustic version of Eula always gives me goosebumps whenever they play it. So intense!
This version of March to the Sea is so good!
gave me chills
Just found Baroness. I have been missing out. It was the same for Tool. A friend gave me all their albums up to Lateralus.
It’s impossible to not love Baroness
can't imagine them without gina anymore... wow!
Right?!
Gina is awesome. So cool they picked her up as an already-established band.
I agree. Her phrasing so beautiful. Just allows so much space. Perfect fit.

Someday Baizley will make a solo acoustic record, And i will buy it.
Someday, he'll do with Gina, and I will buy it, twice :)

Amazing powerfully graceful 😳🌄🔥
Best thing that ever happened to Baroness, Gina.
Gina's so proud of that pitch bend at the beginning of March to the Sea.

Gina's playing in this oddly reminds me of Dave Rawlings a bit in this, which I think is really rad in this context!
