I have seen several tuts about the tissue addon and they always address only the patch option, thanks for the complete and condensed explanation of the addon, I love your content 👌.
no worries! I'm glad I introduced someone like you to this so you could explore and share it with more people here! I also was baffled with how little info there is about it when I first found it too because it is such a powerfull addon especially for complex meshes like you would see when sculpting on zbrush for example
It does seem a little crazy how little there is out there. Mondays video looks at some more advanced elements of it and finding info on that was harder than it needed to be. Videos that did cover it gave a very quick comment without really going into how it works.
@@ArtisansofVaul exactly, I first found it by chance because I was searching for ways to make custom scale mail for my own 3D printed miniatures but non-destructive like in zbrush and I first found the other addon the Micro Mesh, and then I think I read someone's comment talking about that it was like the free one. I don't know if you tried it in that use case but it is really amazing when it just clicks in your head mixed with components like surface deform
Damn! Blender just keeps amazing us with add-ons like this one! The possibilities are endless! Thanks for this introductory video! I can see this being used for a wide array of things with relative speed and ease!
My pleasure man. I've got a follow up coming showing off a more advanced quick project using some of tissues even more powerful features. That gives even more versatility
@@ArtisansofVaul Playing with this a little more, I just realised that the original tile you created (in this case the donut type-plane shape) can be swapped out for a completely different tile (by selecting the original tile, then shift selecting the newer tile, pressing Ctrl + L and choosing Link Object data and then refreshing the tiled tissue mesh!) So we are not locked into the original tile at all. Swapping out for another one gives us that much more flexibility!
Would be super useful to project complicated panels over an organic architectural building that has smooth surfaces. Is it possible to push this further and, say, tessellate building units? Let's say you make a detailed housing cubicle, combine it into one mesh, could you tessellate that across a surfaces and make one larger cubicle complex? Interesting possibilities.
I’ve messed around with some non standard tissue versions on GitHub a while back. Some additional functions. The original dev is still working on it. I think it’s him. It’s kinda outside my understanding what he’s doing. Maths. It’s one of those “okay, looks cool. Can I use this geometry?”
Combining this tutorial, and what I learned on the next recommended video which was "Easy parametric ridge-like structure with Tissue" it's opened up a new world for arch design in Blender for me (combined with my 3D printer) exciting stuff.
I do appreciate the video! If you want to cover some other elements of tissue, like that frame mode in blender 3.3 or whenever it worked, is certainly be up for it
This is a fantastic addon. I was using it fine in Blender 3.6, but when I try the same in 4.0.2, I'm getting error messages that tell me "Can't Tesselate :-("
@@ArtisansofVaul I know! I just realised this would be very useful in my work so would be disappointing if it's broken. It initially works, but I'm getting the error whenever I click on 'update'. Fingers crossed it gets fixed.
So it will depend on how they are set up. These are as I left the sides open so they end up without internal faces and then used the options to close the outside edges as shown. I think that's what makes this so great and helpful. Basically there won't need to be much prep for 3D printing. It should just be the standard 3D toolbox check and fix and then either triangular them in Blender or leave it and hope the algorithms do it right and I bring it into 3DBuilder for one final check and fix.

me before video: lol tissue addon, what it can even do? (laughs like Gomer Simpson) me after video: OMG this addon is a really high quality tool!!! as always thanks a lot for useful content !
Going to be honest, I'm not totally sure. I think it could work if you apply the object to a plane and then use tissue for KitOps bur I haven't used the other addons.
I did one, on making a gauntlet, but it didn't get a lot of interest. Maybe I should do another at some point and see. You can find that one here: th-cam.com/video/g-IPvEyS7qQ/w-d-xo.html
You're using all along a circular shape, which is cute, but sadly it doesn't show the main issue : rotation of the repeated pattern. I'm trying to make a pattern follow the curvature of a simple tube with ultrai regular geometry. But the pattern is repeated sometimes turned left, or right, or up, etc. In what seems to be a total random mess. Something similar was happening at first click in ZBrush with Micromesh, but it could be fixed with one of the parameters. I can't seem to find any way with Tissue to force the pattern to always be in the same direction >: Would you happen to have an idea about that issue please ?
I love using Tissue since i found it years ago. great to see others finding it, congratulations on finding and playing with it amd putting the video out for people! :O)
so I've been trying to make a tissue thingy for the last hour 😂but the texture object (?) like the object im trying to tesselate the plane with, keeps appearing vertical instead of horizontal, like its own coordinates are wrong and I've tried everything to fix it... please help!!! Also great tutorial btw :)
Hmm.... Its a bit difficult to diagnose remotely but I would guess it is one of the following issues, firstly that the rotation isnt applied to the object you're trying to tesselate or its orientated incorrectly. Regardless of the direction/rotation it is meant to "end" at after the tessellation it needs to be made with the up (positive z axis) being the direction you want facing outwards when tessellated. I hope that helps.
It's a really good question. I'm not sure. I think it was developed by someone as an addon and then got added to Blender. Also perhaps because its so massive it couldn't "fit" in a modifier. I mean this video barely scratches the surface. On Mondays video I go into more of what this can do and you'll be how far this can go (and even that isn't covering everything)
Am I restarted or something ? No matter what surface i choose to apply the pattern on it either places a single pattern piece in the middle of target object, or just randomly stretches and squeezes the whole pattern. No matter what i do with options ... What am i doing wrong ? Thanks
Why my instance doesn't work? the update button doens't appear in "tissue tessellate" menu, there is a cropped information: "The selecte...lated object"
That's probably a bit too little information for me to go off of I'm afraid. I would assume there is an issue with one of the meshes... But that's a guess
