Thank you for doing this. Entering the PCP market is intimidating when you read (constantly) about these and those fill probes, lubing these fittings and o-rings, and not these ones. Maybe now it will be easier...
Matt, thanks for tuning in. As the PCP rifles are becoming even more popular there are more pumps being developed. This is good because the price keeps coming down. When I first started shooting PCP the max fill was 200 bar and your options was a scuba tank or a $1500 compressor. Happy Shooting 👍🏻
Nice, I use a hand pump on all my PCP's due to safety concerns around my kiddo. Yes, higher priced hand pumps are better than the cheap ones. I fill both an AGT Vulcan 3 and an Air Ventury Avenger.
Dam... Guess I was lucky ... My ole day took me from the old 22 mag rite to the 30 ot 6 at the age of 6... I was shooting the 357 by 10 years old.. he didn't mess with air guns, said they were for candy asses as he pulled out the full auto m2 carbine and said give this one a try boy... But only if you are a real cowboy... And don't be a little bitch because it will push you back
Walmart now has high pressure air cooled compressors up to 4500 psi for about $180 and up...extended service agreements available. Worth a look. We use a water cooled original ourselves. We fill a carbon fiber tank usually from 3000 to about 4300 psi on 1 cycle. From empty it takes much longer. Enjoy, be safe.
Thanks for the informative and enlightening video. Question: I have a standard pancake air compressor. Could you explain why i cannot use this source to air up a PCP air gun?
Hi JC, Thanks for great topic and information. filling the pre-loaded pneumatic starches (PCP) was always a hassle for various reasons. In recent years some portable compressors have emerged that are very simple and practical. They are the main reason that has tempted me to enter this world of (PCP). Have a great weekende.
There are so many different pumps out there. I will occasionally feature one randomly in some of my furniture PCP videos. My best to the family including little Nitro👍🏻😉
The darkside of pcp's! The price/reliability of avaible fill sources is the main thing preventing alot of break barrel users like me to get a nice Pcp! We are getting there slowly with the progress in the airgun world
I think as PCP's become more popular; we will see more affordable pumps being developed. I just came across another one I will feature in some future videos. Happy Shooting!
I have a break barrel .22 air rifle. I've thought about looking into a PCP rifle. I know they need charged but I never REALLY thought about how you do that after you purchase one. I didn't know the options or the added cost. Now I do. Great video and explanation.
Negative..you need at least 3000 psi. Most your home air tool compressors are 100-120 psi. The good news is there are many affordable choices out there. 👍🏻😉
I've waited and watched for prices to come down, in Canada cost is fairly more expensive. I just bought a little portable compressor that had amazing reviews and the airjavelin pro, together it was close to $950, I plan on following manufacturer recommended operating procedures to the letter lol thanks for the video, found it interesting.
I have an EGAL CLAW LEVER ACTION GUN when I follow your direction on filling the gun, of bleeding the pressure out of the fill line ------all the are comes out of the gun, I called the seller and he told me to just let the air out of the line faster to make the air not come back out, is that right ? I though you just turned the bleed valve open and let the air out of the line, then just disconnect the hose.------------- I'm confused
Very simple...when you get to the full level on your gun, turn the pump off, open the bleeder valve, and remove the filler hose. You'll still let the pump's fan work for a few minutes to cool down the pump. I hope that gives you some clarification 👍🏻
So the smaco can fill a scuba tank correct ? If so you can fill the pcp and scuba tank at home. Take the scuba tank with you for faster and quieter refills. Any idea how many fills you can get on one full scuba tank ?
I am looking at buying my first pcp and trying to figure out if I can use my workshop compressor or if I have to use a separate compressor designed just for pcp guns
Love your videos. I just ordered my first PCP air gun. The Notos. Ordered the H&N field trophy .22 Pellets as well. Just need the compressor now. You use the GX pump but which model? Is this all I will need? Your input would be greatly appreciated. God bless brother.

Very informative video for people who are at the tipping point to enter the Pcp world, as well as for novice shooters. For the latter, I still recommend starting with a break barrel. Fit, pumping Chaplin in the background 😂👍

I wouldn't do it. Those little air-cooled compressors are good for filling the rifles. The tanks have too much volume, and you would need a larger compressor. 😉👍🏻
I would be much more gray by the time you could fill a tank. There are some larger compressors that you can keep the 200 bar tanks topped off. These smaller ones are designed to refill the guns themselves. 😉👍🏻

Great video. One question though, can the compressor be used to fill a scuba tank? Or is the scuba tank too large for that? I'm trying to research pcp airguns as I'd love to get one someday.
That pumpb is a bit small. Send me an email, and I'll give you info on the compressor I have been using for years to top-off my tanks. Info@airgundetectives.com 👍🏻

Hello. What is the possibility of buying a separate 12V battery instead of using the car battery to charge my PCP rifle. I have a new GX pump I bought on Amazon. Harbor Freight has 12Volt batteries for under $50.00. What are the requirements for the 12Volt battery to basically run the GX compressor?
Great Job JC. very informative for new PCP buyers. JSYK it looks like the Discount Code has changed already. LOL They have the new one listed on their website.
The gun im looking to buy is a Hatsan Flash QE in .25 and it has a 165cc tank. Would it be wise to go cheap and save money and get a hand pump or spend the extra on a whole system.
I NEED HELP!!!!! I just bought a new Stoeger XM 1 and it had some air in it and I shoot it all out. Yeah I am a newbie. I have a pump but I have pumped for 30 min. and the needle on the gauge doesn't move. I can hear air going through the pump and the rifle came half charged. I don't know what I am doing wrong, or does it take an hour of pumping when the tank on the gun is empty?
Probably gonna have to take it to a airgun shop or contact the company I'm pretty new to airguns but the only thing I can think of is something is wrong with your pump or the airtank what pump are you using?
I've done that very thing, the rifle started to leak air quickly from the filling port, I quickly fitted the adapter and pumped it back to 200bar, this must have re-seated the interal valve, as it held pressure when I released the air correctly at the pump. I even wrote a warning instruction to myself on the pump to avoid making the same mistake 😊 had this pump over 20 years.
Thanks for the video! Before I saw your recommendation of the Smaco, I purchased an Air Venturi Nomad II. It seems very similar and works well so far; but, it clearly states that it cannot fill the external tanks - neither scuba nor carbon fiber. Is this Smaco capable of that? If not, do you have a personal recommendation for a compressor that can fill these external tanks at home? Thanks again for making the videos! -Dan
You're wrong about the date. Girandoni air rifles were first produced in 1779, but they were not the first precharged air guns and others seem to have been around several decades earlier. The first known air rifle dates to 1580, but that was not a PCP.
