I did not expect that sound from the snorkel!
High pitched and whiny from the turbo?
Sounds like horse neighing.
Kinda ruins the trailhunter for me tbh 😢 otherwise seems fantastic
Sounds better than the Ranger Raptor for sure.
NO WAY THATS WHAT THE SNORKEL SOUNDS LIKE HAHAHAHA
This looks absolutely gorgeous
You have the best Toyota content on TH-cam!! It's such a detailed analysis with a truly relatable perspective. Maybe because I find you to be so relatable, Jon. Great stuff!! Keep up the great work!
Great review Jon. Toyota knocked it out of the park w the new TRD and Trailhunter models. Nice mix of new and old styling. Mud bath color looks 🔥
wow looks awesome...Toyota really hit it out of the park
I love it too. The TRD Pro would be my pick. That Mud Bath color as well as this Everest color look STUNNING.
Im probably going platinum or the Gx route.
Toyota certainly gave us options. From the GX, Landcruiser, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner. All somewhat within the same price range. I think Toyota did a great job coming to market with all new designs.
To me this targets the highest selling auto segment.
@@justsayin3600 You're making it sound as if you'll be able to find and actually purchase any of these vehicles in the next 12-18 months.
Oh damn that clip of the snorkel intake was dope lol.
more like annoying as hell.
Sounds like a train.
Dope? Like drugs?
I understand that 4 cylinders are the way everything is going with the is or hybrids. I get it. I just hate the sound and that snorkel brings it right in your face....uggh
Snorkel sound is a major fail imo 😢 can't imagine how annoying thatd be all the time
I really want this 4Runner!!!
I'm trying to think where the Landcruiser fall within Toyota's lineup?
The 4Runner has a 3rd row. It seems more off road purposeful. The Landcruiser seem really boring compared to the 4Runner, and the 4Runner starts at a lower price.
Don’t get rid of your 5th Gen!!!!
Why!? 5th gen is so outdated
And many “Outdated” things are preferable to modern things. Or at the very least it’s different strokes for different folks. For the love of God it is bat shit crazy that manual transmissions are “Outdated” now. So many people preferred them.
Don't tell me what to do mom.
@@JoeBuck-uc3bl LOL. Stay on your 5th gen. Don't give demand on the 6th so I can buy without dealer's markup.
@@fongsa1yuk lmao same....im hoping more people stay on the 5th gen so i don't have to deal with those markups. but obviously just wishful thinking
Great job on the video Jon! Thanks for making it. That green looks good.
excellent review, you put some hard work into this production, awesome job!
The engine looks like they tried to stuff several of Clark Griswold's light string balls from Christmas Vacation in there.
Nice review man! Can hardly believe it’s here. My first impressions are ambivalent. Will need to let it sit for a bit, but usually you know when you know without hesitation.
No wayyyy hearing a 4Runner spooling through the intake/snorkel…I’m sold
And that was the biggest turnoff for me! Fortunately we are all different and that trim is not what I would go for anyway. 9 offerings! I assume there will be one for everybdoy!
This thing is going to be waaaaayyyy over priced
Show me any new car on the market that isn’t overpriced.
Will likely be priced like the 2024 Tacoma. Not quite the Lexus GX price.
Just like everything today. Even eggs.
Not really to get an old 4runner and mod it out like that may cost more. Plus this will still be better
like everything else
I agree. the badge looks a lot better blacked out, but I like the TRD PRO stamped/embossed in even more
I wanna see the Sr5 and the off-road premium versions. Hope those fenders are color matched
Me too. I need 7 seats which means Pro/Trailhunter are never an option for us.
Me too. Everyone always does reviews on the higher end trims. Some of us just want the SR5
Maybe you should search Car and DRIVER and do some reading.@@alopez9149
Absolutely love the throwback rear side window from 1st/2ng gen!
i gotta say, it looks a lot better without that fake hood scoop.
question: the 4th(most right) empty slot next to the rear diff lock and sway bar disconnect, is empty.
On the limited, is that 4th spot the center diff lock?
I do like the color, Rock Sliders, the Light Bar, the Air in the Cargo area & the 2400 Hookup in the rear, it looks like a tight fit in the rear seat, the displaced cargo space is not a deal breaker. Great Review Jon!
I love that Trailhunter. Also I cant wait to see what an SR5 looks looks like.
Great job as always!
The TRD Off Road Premium is where it’s at
I know that the i-FORCE MAX engine is not really a surprise, but I'd be first in line to buy a Trailhunter edition if it came with the non-hybrid engine option that will apparently be offered in the lower end SR5 and TRD Off-Road models. While I appreciate the higher HP and torque of the i-FORCE MAX engine, the longstanding staple of 4Runners is that they last forever! Unfortunately, battery packs do not, and if we've learned anything about hybrids in the last decade, it's that once the battery pack goes, the vehicle is worthless because they are prohibitively expensive to replace.
I like the color and with the black on it looks 🔥🔥
HUGE, huge win for the 4Runner crowd that the 6th Gen will still be built in Japan. I almost feel bad for the Tacoma crowd. The Mexico assembly plant has already made retention brake pins errors on the new Tacoma (brakes are not components where I want sloppy assembly mistakes!). I, too, would go for the Trailhunter over all other trims, but dealer markups for the first couple of years will be INSANE.
Looks awesome! Cant wait to see what the platinum looks like 😊
VERY interested in Platinum!
Toyota press put out a picture of the Platinum, it looks like the Limited with blacked out wheels and trim. It looks really good. I think the Platinum is going to be a very popular trim for someone that wants a more street focused 4Runner but doesn’t like all the bright chrome work.
The sound from that snorkel though! Can’t wait to see it for myself. I’m wondering how the TRD Off-Road trim turns out too.
Great review! Snorkel clip was clutch, no one else has that. No moonroof = more headroom for cargo/camping maybe.
I don't care for moonroofs, don't need a hole in my roof.
I love it! I do wish trail hunter had the hood scoop.
AND A 3RD ROW SEAT OPTION 😢
Showing LOVE for the channel Thank you for this great review. Honestly, and this is the one that me and my wife are definitely planning to buy. Thank you again for your review and have a blessed day everyone.
Totally Awesome
Looks Fabulous
Trailhunter>>TRD Pro
lol no
But the pro looks better!
895 payload. No way dude
Troll
Seems like both fill a slightly different niche
I find it surprising that Toyota is building this in Japan but not selling it in it's home market as well as the Hilux Surf. With the 1st & 2nd gen styling cues this would def be a worthy successor.
That colour is so cool!
Looks hot! That snorkel intake sound....wow.
Favorite part is sway bar disconnect 🙌🏽 and also love the new look!!
Love it!
It's a great idea to forgo the sunroof, but you might as well take further advantage of it by making the roof rack cover the whole roof.
hey Jon, can you take a measurement for comparison? room from the 6th Gen rear seats tumbled forward to the inside of the rear hatch closed. curious if this design change results in less rear sleeping room in the cargo area
The TOYOTA script and that marble look dash looks SO GOOD
Jon, I'm loving this new 4Runner and The Trailhunter also, Beautiful, but I'd rather have black seats. . What was in the bag back in the rear of the 4Runner in the storage compartment, it wasn't in the other 4runner models? Thank You for the awesome review, love your channel!!
The front is sitting there saying: "C'mon John Wescott! Winch me!"
LOL hahaha
I love that green, hope it makes it onto other toyota vehicles
Jon, I don't care for the cruise controls on the steering wheel, I love where they are on the 5th Gen. under the steering wheel and also I like the manual 4x4 gear shifter that's in the 5th Gen, don't care for the turn knob dial. I love the looks of it and the way the back glass curves to the top like on the 1st and 2nd Gens.
Can you ask the designers the rationale for gloss black fenders on TRD pro??
Seriously! Those are not going to age well.
Gloss possibly won’t go to production as these are prototypes. Not the final model. Hoping it’s gonna be like the Trail Hunter.
Genuine question, what's with the hate for the gloss fenders? I think they look decent. As far as scratches, my 3rd gen has gloss black factory flares and they look fine. No more pin-striping than the rest of the truck, and I can buff most of them out if need be.. Matte plastic always seems to fade to gray eventually.
Everyone will prob raptor line over those fender flares in matte black or tan color match
@@AlmightyHiluxIMO, they look cheap, they are part of the truck that will get some of the most abuse and chips, scratch/swirl easily and will look trashed if you use the truck how it’s meant to be used. Again, my opinion.
Strange question Jon is the front emblem on the new tacoma the same size as the new Tundra? I thought I would ask you because you have both. Thanks I just bought a 24 Offroad pick it up on the 27th
Some cool additions like the swaybar disconnect, hybrid engine, 6-speed transmission, stock rock sliders, etc... but I am personally a little bummed about the inability to fold the seats flat for car camping-something so very cool about the new Rivians.
Great time for off roading options, Jeep, Bronco, 4Runner, LandCruiser, Grenadier, and many others.
This might be my favorite trim. I wonder if you can put 35s on there without any additional lift or trimming.
Where does this fit in the trim level lineup? Above TRD Pro? Or sort of same level?
Guess the moon roof is why theres no factory rack on the trd pro? Do we know if the exhaust etc is all final production of if theres more to come like mud flaps etc.. trd pro seems like its missing some finishing touches. That turbo noise from the snorkel is nuts!
My uncle once owned a 93 2nd gen 4runner and i immediately recognized that curved glass on the trunks side windows this is Easter egg if u will in heritage to the 2nd gen 4Runners that also had that curved glass on the side trunk windows which itself was a drawback to when 4Runners had the removable rear panel and were essentially a 22r pickup with a removable fiberglass top
The Bronco Killer!
Bronco lol
@trdjon I think they should have just added additional battery capacity and made the rear cargo area level with the seats when folded for an overall flat cargo area as well as a better electrical capacity.
You have done a great job with the 6Gen 4R videos. Can you answer some questions?
How many gallons is the gas tank?
Regular or Premium fuel?On the TRD OR Premium can I get the air compressor as an option? Same for Locking Center Differential?
Is there room to install dual batteries?
Can you play Netflix movies or You Tube on the 14" infotainment screen?
Nice review Sir, not a fan of the piano black fender on the TRD Pro, but those in flat black are way nicer to me.
Really like the retro cues, still wish it was a 3.0L Straight 6 Hybrid with that 8 speed
Are the front seat backs better shaped and more comfortable than the old 4Runner? They look to have a flatter back which will be good (rather than the overly inflated lower half of the old seatbacks, if that makes sense).
The rear sits really high off the tire. If not doing any off roading any issues lowering it? 😊
Toyota... keep the old 4.0, but add an 8spd/10spd to it. It'll increase fuel mileage, but maintain legendary reliability! Give us the option at least. A v6tt would be sweet, but I'm not sold on their reliability. Glad I have my 5th gen, this 6th is nice, but the powerplant is a dealbreaker, as they've been saying on all 4Runner forums since the Tacoma announcement. Seems like the listened on everything but the powerplant (and maybe removable tops).
Great looking truck! I hope it is as reliable as the 5th gen. Price point should be just under the land cruiser?
Toyota seems to have finished redesgin their heavy hitters. Wonder if the RAV4 will be next since Honda CRV is selling well(my mother just bought one and its impressive)
Look forward to seeing these with 35’s!😅
Not wild about how much cargo space is lost to batteries and the non-fold flat seats, but, oh well. They got a lot of other things right.
Don't get the hybrid lol just get the turbo 4 and tune it
Thanks for showing how the seats can be close to flat was wondering how we could sleep in the back like my current 4runner. Still doesn’t seem ideal
So this is built for Overlanding? Why does the back not fold flat? What happens when you put a mattress, will it block those ports? I don't think I can fit length-wise. I'll stick to my 5th gen.
I’m so glad I just purchased the last of the 2024 5th gen TRD Pro …don’t mind the super comfy dated interior, non turbo motor, poor but consistent mpg with the old school look!
Looks like they improved everything except the power plant. If only they would have provided an option for a V6. Glad I picked up a 2024 TRD Pro.
Just curious. Wouldn't water get sucked into the snorkel if you go thru a carwash?
I can't unsee the Double Hulk Hogan Mustache in the front end
I like everything but I Force battery’s. My ? Is what fo they cost to replace and dispose of old battery’s ?
That green is great!
ouuuu want one of these bad boys
So I'm assuming the 3rd row comes in the non hybrid trims like the SR5?
I’m very curious how the TH rides vs the TRD pro having completely different shocks for dampers. But man what a roll Toyota has been on latently. This is a bad ass rig
They failed on the motor unfortunately
@@mikeflanders2173 5th gen fans are being so pathetic. They knew that V6 was outdated as hell and needed replacement, and I’d say this is the perfect engine.
@@dotcinematicsperfect for being a piece of unreliable shit in a 65k + truck. Gtfo
@@mikeflanders2173 more torque more horsepower and more gears brother. They did their homework.
I guarantee you the Trailhunter rides 100 times better with thr Old Man Emu Suspension over the Fox that's on the Pro!
I totally would have already bought the Tacoma Trailhunter if it wasn't delayed...now I'm thinking of just holding off for the 4Runner!
WILD OFFROAD 😎👍
I’m in love!
A big thing about Trailhunter Tacoma are the steel bumpers. No mention here on 4 runner. So far not much mention of cool add ons or included over landing feature. Is the air compressor and old man emu shocks all you get?
The hybrid bumpers for this rig are gonna be heavier! Waiting to hear the gearing specs.
Jon...your 6 foot? Would you be comfortable sleeping in that back area if it was leveled....the back seats look alittle to small for laying and sleeping? I always wished the 4 runner was alittle wider & longer..always would get the tacoma OR as my vehicle...this 4 runner impresses in many ways..ty
Diagonal yea. Even the guy 4R would be tight imo
What do you think Jon. TRD Pro or Trailhunter
Jon, did the Pro have memory seat buttons in the driver’s door?
Wow, is tha a built in brake controller? haven't seen that in a 4Runner before. The rear window does still role down, as seen on other reviewer channel
That is a cool truck! I’m not too sure I’d want to hear that noise from the snorkel thing though?
My biggest gripe is the tumble-forward rear seats. Most of these will never have a third row, and a normal flat folding seat would be far more useful.
I have never wanted an archaic 4Runner, but this long overdue redesign changes this. It's hard choice between the TRD Pro and the Trailhunter.
The sunroof versions really reduce headspace for back seat passengers. Also, it seems like there is less legroom in the back seats.
I bet the seats can adjust backward
True sunroof takes out headroom in both front and back seats
More legroom than the new tacoma
@@dotcinematics No the seats can’t slide back due to the floorboard in the cargo area prohibiting rearward movement
Blasted a nice TRD today after eating spicy tacos. OMG Toyota 😂😂😂
Hey John,
Did you see the Platinum Trim while you were there?
Can one remove the snorkel? Aside of that it looks great. Will be 65k or more though.
When will the preorders be available at dealerships?
I can only imagine what the waiting list and dealer markups will be for the trailhunter
Absolutely need to rhino line those fender covers
Hopefully they corrected the annoying volume/track select button on the steering wheel.
How much better is mpg with the smaller engine?
I like your work
I wish they had the SR5 at this press review after all it is the volume seller for the 4Runner line.
Maybe they are pushing people into higher specs.
@@Cous1nJackthey always show the fancy ones first
looks like an Xterra, beautiful front
Jon - can you grab some cargo area demensions for us and compare to 5th gen! I want to know how much cargo area that battery takes up!
