      I agree wholeheartedly! Out of their entire career, this three minute foray into Fusion Jazz leaves us wanting more. Imagine if they did a whole album of Fusion.

      I would like to respectfully disagree, although I absolutely adore this part, it's part Vi that is the best imo. That godly lap guitar solo is easily in my favorite music moments of all time

    Part 8 is like the final push to make this song just keep getting better than the previous parts. Every single bandmate did their best in their own fields yet managed to pull it off in a cohesive way.

      I’m glad you grouped those because those are always the specific examples I think of in Pink Floyd reusing and transforming old songs and sounds, like the wind transition between wish you were here and shine on is also shared with the transition between One of these days and A pillow of winds. Also how rockers like Have a Cigar, Young Lust, and Not now John (and “what do you want from me” if you want) are short and structured similarly

    This is one of the first mainstream Fusion Jazz performances on any album. It definitely stands out in the middle of a funerary piece, and is the best part of Crazy Diamond and Wish You Were Here in my opinion.

    The bass line is hunting at Part viii, the guitar more funky but always so bluesy. Man, this is amazing.

    Saw Rog and his band do this part of Shine On along with the rest of 5-8 a few days ago. Absolutely transcendental, this quickly became my favorite part of the song and it was awesome to hear it live.

    I read Snowy White played lead on this? As well as "Have a Cigar". He played with Pink Floyd for decades, and after that Roger Waters, so it wouldn't be unlikely.

    I haven't seen anyone else share this sentament, but fuck it. This part of the song gives me like falling action vibes. Like everything else has came and went and your just left like "welp, so what now?" Not a perfect conclusion, like if a main character's whole story was done, and now they just chill around livin life.
    Yeah that's just my own two cents one this song. 7/10 pretty good

    I don't know how the influences went. I only know that before 1976 Disco music and funk were not popular yet. And this piece is from 1975! A forerunner?
