This actually one the most beautiful Wright pieces. Thanks for posting. I Think Wright was the unsung hero of Floyd. He was one of the first keyboard players that did not have a cheesy sound. He had amazing epic chord sequences. His playing was always tasteful and elegant.
I don't know how many times I had tears in my eyes when listening to this piece during my 58 years life. I still do every time. They called it part 9 but it should have been named cloud 9. Richard Wright was one of the best composers of all time. Great Gig in the Sky is one of his other masterpieces.
No he wasn't! He was extremely highly rated! I don't know any musician, certainly not any keyboard-playing musician, who doesn't rate him very highly indeed! Buy a dictionary and look up the word underrated.
It's good to see this piece getting the recognition it deserves. I've always felt it was underrated and overlooked. Rick Wright was integral to the genius that was Pink Floyd, and he created several outstanding masterpieces, of which this is one. Wish you were here, Rick.
@@markrae1317 I’ve seen heaps of praise lavished on Echoes, Great Gig, Sheep, etc, but this thread is one of the very few places I’ve ever seen SYD Part IX singled out for praise or even mentioned in its own right. Have I been looking in the wrong places? If you can link to other sites, I’d be genuinely interested to see/read them.
Cuando supe la muerte de Rick Wright, no pude evitar escuchar este tema, ya llevamos casi 7 años sin él, pero sera dios que ahora disfrute de tus teclados Maestro Wright. Saludos desde Chile
It is not underrated in the slightest! Who doesn't rate this song? Seriously! Buy a dictionary. Then look up the word 'underrated'. Then don't post again until you've educated yourself!
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final song of Pink Floyd as we know it... Later will arrived Waters Era (Animals, The Wall, The Final Cut) and David Era (A Momentary L.O.R, The Division Bell and Endless River)
yes, that's wright Sebastian. I have always wanted to like Animals and consider it an extension of the PF era, but I finally admit it's just a very good rock album. This was truly the end of what Pink Floyd was to me. The Wall? Please!
For me, my favorite Pink Floyd era starts with “Echoes” (yes, the song…it’s the only track from “Muddle” that I actually enjoy 😵💫😅) and runs straight through to “The Wall” and then jumps one over to “Momentary Lapse Of Reason”. For me, prior to that era the music is a tad too experimental for me to grasp and then after it just sorta loses its spark. But “Echoes”, DSOTM, WYWH, “The Wall” and “Momentary Lapse Of Reason” all hit the sweet spot between being experimental enough to be truly unique while being also Rock enough to be fun…obviously with varying degrees of each…😅😍🥰❤️
Por fin di con el título de este tema. Wright está fantástico.... Pink Floyd salvó mi vida....desde los 14 años que los escucho y ya tengo 58. Esta pieza musical estará en mi funeral 😊
And so the story goes that they were at the mixing stage when someone said that it needed piano on it so they contacted Richard who recorded the piano on a separate tape and sent it in! The piano tape was subsequently lost, so Richard re-recorded it for the 5.1 remix. For me, the piano is the icing on the cake!
This piece sounds even more poignant and heartbreaking when you know that it's essentially a lament for the friend who lost his fight with a mental illness...

3:06. Rick plays a fragment of "see Emily play" with the synth. They really missed him.
Also don’t forget THE MAN was there at the very studio while they were working the whole thing out. That addition was raw feels.

Exacto y perfecto. Totalmente de acuerdo. Un abrazo
Rick, wish you were here, you was a grand man of music, love you
….yes….
I completely agree with everything that you are saying. Rick Wright is definitely a major source of Pink Floyd's over all sound.
Yes, this is undoubtedly one of Richard's masterpieces. The change from minor to Major is wonderful. So haunting.
Most beautiful piece of music ever...
yes
Almost.
Or After The Ordeal by Genesis. Too close to call.

3:07 Wright tribute to Syd Barret
"Emily tries but misunderstands"
a melody from See Emily Play
I EVEN HEAR FOUR NOTES FROM "SILENT NIGHT..."!
When I hear this part I can't help but cry a little
i think its "soon after dark emily cries”
The greatest fade-out in the history of rock music
It's a perfect song for my funeral!
These three minutes are better than any three minutes you’ll find on the radio
Richard Wright will live forever in his music
RIP Richard Wright most undderated member of Pink Floyd

OK, but that's not what underrated means...
A masterpiece, reminds me of my late grandfather. I can't recall a single time I haven't cried to this instrumental passage. RIP, two young men.

Bien dicho compañero, larga vida a Pink Floyd.
Richard Wright is my favorite keyboardist of all time; his ambient style has influenced the way I play keyboard.
2:19 the best ambient synt
Wine glasses, ARP Solina, EMS VCS3, Minimoog and Hammond Organ all togheter
Old synths sounded better and more organic. New computer synths can't capture the old sound
My favorite chord, G major!
immense artist, our children's children will listen to him with the same amazement and wonder
This part is so dramatic
Pretty good
If you ask me? This is the best part i like , it makes me relaxed after i’ve been running all the times.
SOB SOB SOB😭I caĺl this lovely piece The reqiem for a died childs soul
3:06 Emily tries, but misunderstands, ahh-oooo...
Amazing
Just discovered this. Like finding $100 in an old pair of pants.
This man taught me more about being a keyboard player in a band than Tony Banks, Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman combined. Hugh Banton already knew...
Rick Wright forever!
Beautfiul piece, it suddenly came rushing to my mind today and I had to find it on yt... I like the picture, too!

I always liked Richard's jazz contributions to Floyd's music. RIP Richard. This piece always makes me so sad.
best part to me it's so good.
This will be the tune to summarize my funeral.
Edit: Just some dumb spelling mistakes.
There really isn’t a single part of this song that is bad, all 9 parts are masterpieces in their own right.

I play this on keyboard. it's hard to nail this "horn" Minimoog synthesizer sound
I call this sound ghostie trumpet. Always wondered which synth does this
Brass synth lead does the job on any standard keyboard, even an 80$ Yamaha. Rick uses ARP string ensemble
