Hits me right in the heart when DG said without his best friend there is no Pink Floyd. That kind of love, friendship, and respect is so rare these days!
What many forget these days, is the original track all their equipment was analog - they literally made up much the sounds they used ... Wright mic'd the piano into a leslie speaker cabinet and "that sound" in the opening and ending was born, the seagulls sounds in the middle section was Gilmour's guitar plugged into a vox wah-wah backwards and rocked back and forth - the squealing noises. However when they play together Wright and Gilmour played off each other's creativity so well both in inspiration and musically - when Richard would play a seventh within a chord .. David would come along with his melodic lead line and bend it to an ninth and resolve it to a root, and vice-versa super-imposing harmonies, they set the color in the music of Pink Floyd. Like no second guessing they were in the same mind-frame. Btw… Richard Wright sang the lead vocals on DSOTM's “Time” and "Wearing the Inside Out" on The Division Bell.
I'm 71 next week, and like many other people I find Pink Floyds music brings out the emotional side of me. I have a fantastic family, 4 sons, two beautiful grandchildren (and another on the way!)and a loving wife, but Floyd bring back so many memories of my life, from when I was a teenager through to now. The memories of the sixties and seventies are so vivid at times, and watching this performance with dear Rick Wright and David working so well together, bring those memories flooding back. I find it hard to put my feelings into words, but I watched those last few minutes with tears rolling down my cheeks. Life past can make you so happy, but at the same time so sad. Sorry for being a big softy!!
Rejoice in having misspent your youth ( c’mon; you listen to Floyd all your life as have I and I know how I’ve opened my doors of perception) at a time when music was art and love was free.
Wade Cooler you are so very right! And for the past 20 yrs TOOL has stepped up and took the torch! If David and Roger would roll with Adam Maynard Danny it would be world peace
Some people claims "Echoes" is Floyds best work. And I can absolutely see where they're coming from. It is a true timeless masterpiece. And WHAT an incredible performance this was. RIP Rick. You were the salt of the band.
Yes it it is their best work. IMO: 1. Echoes 2. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (all parts) 3. Sheep 4. Us And Them 5. Time Echoes and Shine On You Crazy Diamond are well above the rest.
@@kroolini3678 TBH having listened to The Wall countless of times it grew old on me at some point. I appreciate the message of "Comfortably Numb" but at the same time The Wall as a whole feels like Roger's solo effort, that famous David's guitar work notwithstanding. I don't want to criticize anything. The Wall is fantastic in its own right. A monumental work. Each of us has different taste. I think I specifically love Pink Floyd era where Rick's influence can be clearly heard. Animals was the last such album. (Of Waters era of course. He reapeared on the last two albums, particularly on The Division Bell, but I don't consider those Pink Floyd either)
David has refused to perform Echoes without Rick as he stated it wouldn't feel right without him. I couldn't agree more. Echoes is without a doubt Rick's ultimate masterpiece.
A very sad ending, two old friends saying goodbye to each other, expressing their love with their music. RIP Richard Wright, you were the soul of Pink Floyd.
Gilmour said: "It would be lovely to play Echoes here, but I wouldn't do that without Rick. There's something that's specifically so individual about the way that Rick and I play in that, that you can't get someone to learn it and do it just like that. That's not what music's about." Seems fair
The year was 1983. I was in college. Got hold of this album on cassette for my Walkman. Was a warm summer night. Took my sleeping bag up on the terrace. The sky was blazing with millions of stars. Lay down, stared up in space, hit the play button and became one with the cosmos. I remember it so well, after almost 40 years.
@@guiltseeker The song Echoes was from the album Meddle which was released in 1971. People do buy albums long after the release date and enjoy them years later. Seems that's what Icarus67 was saying.
I don't blame David no wanting to play Echoes without his mate Richard... the two were incredibly in sync mentally, musically, emotionally and I can see it would not be the same. There are always some songs that once a band member leaves this planet the others say "that song is retired until we meet again" - this is one of them.
The business! You will never hear two musicians bouncing off each other like that. And a boat lies waiting! RIP Richard. No one can ping like he could!😢
I was 18 when I saw the movie Pink Floyd at Pompei in 1972. This piece of music has never ceased to move me ever since. I'm 69 now and get never get enough of it. It's like a great painting by a Master.
Totally agree that this song represents everything Pink Floyd. I'm always touched when I read that David won't play Echoes without Richard. True friends with huge respect for each other.
I get the impression Rick was just caught in the middle of Roger and David's feuding. Rick's personality made him an easy target for Roger, and David didn't do enough to stop him from getting the boot (I suspect, I don't know for a fact). After it all went down, David felt guilty about it, and knew Rick really wasn't the cause of the acrimony between him and Roger, and I feel like he has honestly tried to make up for what happened to Rick over the years. Even Floyd's last album, The Endless River, feels like David's way of honoring Rick, and dealing with his pain and guilt over what happened. Of course, this is all speculation on my part - I wasn't there. But either way, I am really glad when Rick parted this world, he and David were truly friends. I have quite a few recordings of the early aughts of David touring, and always bringing Rick along. Gdansk, On an Island, there's a few other gigs out there - all with Rick side by side with David. They even did some of Rick's solo songs on David's tour.
you mean Richard who was the only member NOT to lose money on The Wall tour as he was playing a session player? The Richard who says he'd have fired himself as he was too preoccupied with cocaine at the time, that cost him his marriage, and was the wake up call he needed to sort out his life?
Whether Richard made money off the wall is irrelevant. I doubt any of them were hurting for cash - that's not what I mean by David feeling guilty. Yes, Rick wasn't pulling his weight by his own admission. But Roger was coming to believe more and more that he was the sole reason for Pink Floyd's success, and that he was carrying the band alone - Richard's drug problem made him an easy target. David could still challenge Roger on Pink Floyd's success (Comfortably Numb's solo? Another Brick in the Wall??), but Rick hadn't really produced since WYWH. David, rather than defend Rick's past contributions, and help his friend through his personal problems, let Roger force him out, maybe was even a party to it. And I am sure he felt guilty about it later. I would have. And then we got the hot garbage that was The Final Cut, your album of 100% Roger's creative control.
The synergy Gilmore and Wright had, was astonishing. Richard Wright's passing, marked the end of Pink Floyd. Fortunately, we are left with this prog rock masterpiece, (Meddle is still one of my favourite Pink Floyd albums). Echoes is going to be enjoyed and analysed by countless people for the foreseeable future. I feel privileged to have seen Pink Floyd in concert and heard Echoes played live. It was a life changing experience.
The final dialogue between David's guitar and Rich's keyboards is the dialogue between two friends. A dialogue that could be infinite and a perfect understanding ... Thank you
All the versions of this song are amazing, but this one has something special that touches my heart... maybe it's because it was the last time it was played, so I feel nostalgic. I'm in love with all the song, but what I love the most is the final part. It's amazing how this two legends can have a conversation without any word. For me, this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever made. This is the result of years of friendship, and it shows us why David can't play Echoes without Richard. You can't hear a dialogue if one of them is missing. Rest in peace, Richard, you will be forever remembered and missed.

I did not know a "god" had a Womb. Must have been Medusa. What do we say to the nice Lady. "Thank you, for carrying Roger, Nick, David, the late Syd Barrett and the late Richard Wright, around, in your Womb, for 45 Months, approximately, Medusa." Just in time for Medustmas!
I’m pretty sure at this point that many people knew Rick was fighting a terminal cancer that would take his life. I am so glad they did this song together one last time. Probably Rick’s greatest performance!! He tackled it with all his passion, and have others said, there was such a great interaction between Rick and Dave! They knocked it out BIG TIME! The ending literally brought tears to my eyes!
Actually Rick was diagnosed in December 2007. Long after this tour. He had small cell lung cancer. Just like my Dad. Both of them lasted the same amount of time.
Finally had a chance to sit back and listen to my fav Floyd song, and read though many of your comments, so many great words to describe your feelings of this masterpiece. Rick plays his heart out here, your missed , never forgotten Keep safe out there everyone
Thankyou so much for showing and sharing this Wonderful video. I am enjoying taking trips down memory lane, with the rest of Floyds lifer's. I found them in 1972 at 11 and I will be 60 in July. My neighbors are going to throughly enjoy another day of Pink Floyd Music. I will be blasting it through the ole stereo again. 😉😎. They should know every song by now....I've played this video everyday since I was blessed with comming accross it. Stay safe and Rock on...Peace and Love from me in New Orleans...😎✌
It was a life changing experience! I found Meddle on vinyl in my grandparent’s basement (still have the copy). It was my uncle’s (who had passed the year before). This would have been in 1992, I was 11/12. This started the last 30 years of a love affair and obsession with Pink Floyd!
Walked in on my son and a few of his friends. They were gaming and all had headphones on. I asked what they were listening to. Son unplugged and Wish You Were Here. Pink Floyd created music that will be listed to for generations. Certain musicians and songs become timeless. I drop in Beethoven sometimes when the mood hits. 200 years from now, someone will drop in PF when the mood hits.
I was there. I stood about 50 meters away towards left from the construction set in the middle of the audience. I got shivers when I heard the sonar-like sound and immediately shouted: Echoes! I was completely amazed. Probably the best from the entire show, definitely for me as I always wanted to get Echoes played at my funeral. Being there was for me one of the musical lifetime events. Something you experienced only once. Something you can't record in any way. I knew that was it, like time stood still and there was only me and the music in my ears. I tasted every note like it was played only for me. Religious folks usually say that was their supreme being. For me that was the supreme music.
YES, EXACTLY THAT I EXPERIENCED ON THE CONCERT YES -35 ANNIVERSARIES IN PRAGUE IN THE ORIGINAL SET (10METERS :-). PINK FLOYD I LOVE SINCE 1972 (I WAS 16). YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT MUSIC
I was in PF's concert somewhere in 1988-90 in Moscow. Gorbach has sent a cargo freighter to bring PF's equipment. The concert was not as impressive as this one in Gdansk. Maybe they took Soviet audience not so ready for showing all their refined art. And it was a mistake. Since early 1970-s there were PF fans in Soviet Union perfectly knowing whole their creation from the very beginning despite the TV never has mentioned them.
One of the greatest feelings in life is putting your head phones on, leaving the reality of this world behind for a bit. And letting the music of Pink Floyd take over your senses. The music takes you to another realm almost. Where yours thoughts, and time seem limitless. It’s a wonderful escape from reality and great experience. Too bad most people don’t appreciate the greatness of Pink Floyds music.
Like so many people out there they can't get a grip on this remarkable music but luckily we and some others can you know DSOTM set guiness records that'll never be broken and that was in 73 my how time flies when your listening to Floyd
We are on the first day of a holiday in Palm Springs, California from London, England. I cannot sleep, its dawn and the wife and kids are asleep. I took my laptop onto the terrace and listened to this watching the sunrise over the San Jacinto Mountains and remembering how effing lucky I am to have grown up with Floyd in my life. Magical - especially the ending of this masterpiece that i never appreciated before and I bought Dark Side when it came out - made all the more poignant with Richard Wright's passing and that Gilmore will not play this again without him. We are but notes that conspire that eventually pass until there's only one left and then only tears.
I feel like everyone likes to obsess over how amazing David Gilmour is with his guitar, and dont get me wrong, I think hes one of the greatest of all time, but it's a shame that people like Richard Wright get overlooked for their unbelievable talent. David Gilmour adds to Pink Floyd's unique sound with his incredible guitar skills, but in my opinion, without Rick's keyboard playing and other instruments, Pink Floyd would not be nearly as good as they are. That's why Echoes is one of my favorite songs, it really gives Rick his time to shine and shows how insanely talented he actually is. Richard Wright gives Pink Floyd their unique sound, without him, it wouldn't be Pink Floyd. Rest in Peace Rick, you absolute legend.
Richard Wright was never overlooked, but Gilmore is simply much better at his job in all directions and has the fame for it as well. Not many people can play Gilmore, many can play Wright.
There's some really funky Richard Wright keyboards on the back half of Shine On You Crazy Diamond (you know, the sections that's are side two of the album). I mention it because it's always been my favourite Richard Wright stuff
@@jameswrightson744 I disagree and that's why Pink Floyd kept him in the band until the end. He was also a musical genius just like every other member and helped to compose many of their masterpieces.
my son turns 13 tomorrow (09/15/21). Echoes was literally the 1st song his ears ever heard! I often think that Rick Wright leaving us and my son being born on the same day, somehow are connected. He loves the Floyd as much as I do. Thanks to Rick, Dave, Nick, Roger and Syd for the BEST music ever!
I have a couple of daughters who don't share my love of Pink Floyd. Neither does my wife unfortunately. But she did buy me a brilliant little Bose soundbar which I listen daily. Anyway, I will get my own back as I have written the music that I want played at my funeral. All Pink Floyd apart from Heroes by David Bowie. And I want this full version of Echoes playing at the end when my coffin goes to cremation. Ha ha. You are so fortunate that your son listens to this. And he is so lucky to have been introduced by his dad.
As heartbreakingly beautiful a live performance as you'll ever hear anywhere. My wife and I loved Floyd. She's dying in a hospital right now. So many years, many tears, and all I can say now is I'm so grateful for her. No one else like her. Every time I hear this the water works come on.
@@jerrycote1661 So sorry for your loss. May her soul rest in peace. May you find the strength to keep fighting on until you are both reunited in God's presence.
Every time I watch this video I end up in tears, it's such a superb song, and this is the best version. The way Rick and David exchange notes at the end is so touching. It brings back so many memories of my younger days, people and places. Happy days!!
Most people are not aware of what Rick Wright's jazz chops did for the Floyd. Take Rick's chords out of the Floyd's music, and not even half of it would have been as beautiful as it was. RW was the unsung hero of Pink Floyd.
It pains me to see Richard getting omitted by the camera in their last gig in 2005 and was treated by the director as a session musician. But we all saw him there, and the passion and power as he stood up to play the keyboard like the master performer he really was. We love you Rick, and your legacy lives on in the songs, even after a decade.
I have been dreaming of seeing Echos live since "The Division Bell" tour. Echoes is for me one of the songs that had changed music forever. On the Island Tour, Echoes was suddenly played in full length at the end! When the first "ping" came, I thought only, "was that a ping? No David will not play..." and then came the second ping with the chords and it became certainty: Echoes live! One of the most emotional moments in my life. This still moves me to tears today. Thanks to David, Rick and Mason (and Roger) for the music you gave us.
Only chance now to see Echoes live is Brit Floyd. They do a fantastic cover, complete with the light show that accompanies this performance by Gilmour and Wright.
PF's ability to almost note-for-note reproduce their music on stage certainly isn't lost here. Love this performance. God rest you, Rick Wright. Each of you boys pretty much musically DEFINED my life.
Not only reproduce, but jam with it, experiment with it on stage and it still sounding exceptional and fitting. At least to me, especially the longer ending part, sounded like spontaneous jamming between two friends to a familiar tune, like they'd be not on stage right now but in a studio to which they're used to, just playing with it, trying things out. These two were in sync.
Perfection. Life would not be the same without Pink Floyd. Only a handful of great great bands truly great in life Pink Floyd is one of them. There are a lot of people who cant feel the music and they are insane. This is incredibly amazing. I have friends even husbands who say “how can you listen to this? They say to me, “It’s is a mess!” I don’t get that they cant hear what I do. Honestly, how crazy are they? Right? Its genius!
I'm with you. I admit there are a few Pink Floyd songs I don't care for, but mainly because of the vibrations they put off. My body is extremely sensitive to vibrations. The vast majority of their music is like vibrational heaven for me. Whereas I like about 30% to 50% of the music by most of my favorite artists, I probably like 95% of Pink Floyd's music. I agree that it is absolute genius!
@ Trudy Schartz-Burrill I have a wife like that 😀 She just doesn't 'get' it. Ah well, perhaps one day she will see the light and figure out the pure beauty of this performance.
Can we just take a second to appreciate the backing band who's able to keep a steady tempo and beat the entire time Gilmore and Wright are sending instrumental licks back and forth.
I have consumed so many hours of Pink Floyd’s extraordinarily great music spanning from PATGOD to Division Bell and even Endless River and after much thought and very careful consideration I’ve concluded that Echoes is indeed their finest work. I can not stop listening to it…it’s the best 23+ minutes that any group of musicians have ever gifted the world!
You are right. There definitely was a chemistry between Richard and David that was most likely based upon their mutual respect for eachother. Something that never occurred with Roger Waters. It was a shame that he had such an ego. But in my opinion, Gilmour and Wright were both supremely talented musicians, with Gilmour easily being the very best guitarist, ever.
Yeah rick Wright was a good vocalist, maybe that's why Roger treated him.badly , he was jealous of him , as Roger isn't a great vocalist, just my opinion.
This song just drags the emotions out of you. The fact that Richard Wright is no longer with us makes this song even more bitter sweat. Pink Floyd will always be first one of the greatest musical legends of all time and a pinnacle of music in its golden age.
What an intimate and breathtaking end of the song! 50000 people are standing quietly and just listening and probably hoping this moment will never end. Wish I‘d been there. :-/
If this doesn't bring tears to yours eyes then there's something musically wrong with you. How can todays music make you feel like this. After 1 week it's forgotten. I will listin to this till the day I die. JD
Agostino Maiello I know what you mean. This and The Dark Side of the Moon are experiences to say the least. I keep finding myself putting in some good earbuds and listening in a dark room.
Oddly enough, I was reading your post just as that happened! I have Echoes and Comfortably Numb as part of my pre-sleep playlist. Sometimes right at that point it fails. LOL
So true, I as well was reading your comment, reflecting on good times in my life associated with this song and sure enough I got the goosebumps. What a feeling as a human knowing there are others who experience the same reaction to mastery.
A version of 'Echoes' without Richard's keyboards - David had a point. It definitely wouldn't have sounded anything like Floyd at all. This song makes a wonderful epitaph to his playing,. RIP Richard.
Honestly, any good pro keyboardist could play Rick's wonderful part, I think David couldn't face playing it without Rick singing along. And I think this tells us which two members of Floyd really composed the astounding Echoes. Sail on...
If i recall, David described Echoes as a musical conversation between his guitar and Rick's keyboards. So, yeah, I can fully understand him not wanting to play it with someone other than Rick. Especially knowing how close they were. They were truly brothers of different mothers.
I’ve lost count of the numbers of times I’ve laid on the floor, lights out, and listened to this. Mesmerising, and the ending is gorgeous- no other word for it. If ever there was a masterpiece, then this is it. It has stood the test of time
We 60+70s Yr old talk about where we where when Floyd released new albums & the spiritual shift in the Cosmos after Umagumma, what we were doing the 1st time we heard Dk Side, Meddle, then Wish, of course in those days it may have bn the acid
I'm right there with you Ray. I'm 66 years young, and feel that a large part of me grew up with Floyd. I've seen them in concert more times than I can count, and each concert shines like a gold nugget sitting atop my world view. It's impossible for me to hear them without tears flowing copiously. I make no apologies for being an "old softy". I'm grateful as could be that I'm able to feel so deeply about that which matters to me.
I'M 72 years of age. I've listened to the Floyd since their conception and still turned on by arguably the greatest band ever!! Sat here with my cans on reflecting of the years of my youth long gone yet still young enough to appreciate great music!!! 🎧🎼🎵🎶
I am just one year behind you Steve. But share all your feelings about THE greatest band ever. Long live the music of Pink Floyd so many more people can discover it and enjoy it as much as we do.
I am probably one of the few folks who actually saw Floyd back in the '70's. It is bitteersweet to see this and it does bring out the tears and smiles.
Hello from New Zealand. Saw them at Earls Court May 1973. when I was 17. I think it may have been the first London gig where they played the whole of DSOTM.....
Us old guy's that were there live can really appreciate what we saw and heard, even after all these years. Good memories !!!!!! 74yrs. Rick Wright and Gilmore were a team!!!!
Thank you Pink Floyd for being part of millions of people’s lives. You have touched us all! We appreciate you and are sorry for the loss of your dear band mates! We love you!

After all these years, Echoes never fails to bring my emotions to the surface. I tripped to Echoes one night in the late 70s. Pure magic. Rest in Peace, Rick.
The last part of the song is like two old friends finally meet in heaven and recognizes each other and start to talk. Such beautiful thing we can dream.
This was not a Pink Floyd Performance, this was a David Gilmour Tour with other musicians invited by David, among them was Rick, the only other member of Pink Floyd during this Tour

David and his legendary black strat. I was 16 years old in 1971. I don’t think words can describe the depth of what David is able to do as a musician. When I first heard ECHOES I became overwhelmed by the emotions I was feeling. It was David’s genius and these lyrics to the sacred duet between David and Richard. It was as though they became one. Strangers passing in the street By chance two separate glances meet And I am you and what I see is me The sheer beauty of the lyrics and music of ECHOES transformed me. This masterpiece became my affirmation my prayer at 16 and has seen me through my journey in this life. I have matured and I’m beginning to see the depth and beauty of humanities true greatness. My deepest respects to Richard Wright for all that he gave us.
And Waters wrote those lyrics, every one. The band played it beautifully, Gilmour and Wright sang them impeccably, but without Waters, there would have been no Echoes.
I'm 51. And Pink Floyd has been by my side since I am 15 when I first time heard them. Thank you, guys, for the music you made. The Echoes symphony is awesome something, makes me goosebumps and wets my eyes ... and the stuff ...
I always love the Pompeii version as my my favorite before this one came out. Not only is this version better musically, but it is so meaningful and touching! RIP Rick! We still love you and miss you dearly! It is not Pink Floyd without Rick Wright!
Wright was my musical hero - the quiet oxygen that allowed Floyd's best music to breathe - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Echoes, in particular. Floyd were always at their best when David and Richard collaborated vocally, IMHO.
I agree they had better harmonies that sound more unique. My favorite edit of a Pink Floyd album would be to take side 1 of Dark Side of the Moon and add Echoes as Side 2
Had the good fortune to see Mr Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm a 16st rugby player from Wales - I blubbed like a baby, it was so emotional. I hope these guys know how much their music means to many people.
I think they know. Let's hope for a last go round. It would be great to see Dave, Roger, and Nick on the same stage again. No Echoes though. Mini tour 10 shows in UK and EU and another 10 in US. Put aside the differences. They did it before in 05. They can't need the money. As so many others, I've been following these guys since 1967. C'mon guys, Covid is ending soon. One last set of shows.
There is no shame at all in getting emotional about this and all the other incredible pieces of work by the very best of the very best, Pink Floyd. I have just turned 71, and I experience all those emotions when listening to their music. And I have the utmost love and respect for them as musicians. Especially David Gilmour. Can you imagine how it must feel to not only be able to play to that standard, but to give so much pleasure to millions of people worldwide. Just perfect.
I got the album "Meddle" when it first came out. I was 10 at the time, & this track has been echoing through my life ever since then. It's been a very real part of me.
I like that: "A very real part of me." When I was 13, I hadn't been much into music, but was a sleepless, aggravated and energetic kid with ambitions much greater than my town. So much so, I often found myself in trouble and having addicted parents, raising myself. When the time came to go off to foster home, I had no idea what I was to do with free time and thought now would be the time to get into music. I stole my mothers double cassette, "The Wall" to bring with me in hopes to remind me of "home" and learn music... I've never looked back since. That album, and in particular this band, has gotten me through a very troubling part of my young adult life and is a part of me. It is without a doubt "Avery real part of me." To this day, next to prayer, I look to Pink Floyd to bring my spirit into focus so as to allow me to deal with some of life's most troubling aspects. God bless Pink Floyd.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s was the best of times and Pink Floyd was always playing on the stereo with my group of friends...as loud as we could stand it. I LOVE Echos...it is one of my absolute favorites of Pink Floyds.
Yes. The final performance as with Richards passing. David cited that it could never be performed the same without him. Greatest respects and well said Dave and RIP Richard. WHAT A TRIBUTE!!!!!!
I've heard Echoes before but never really gotten into it that much. But after seeing this version everything has changed. After the video ended I sat silent for 5 minutes to fully understand what I just witnessed. Talk about being blown away
I, as a huge fan for 50 years obviously have this on the Live Gdansk DVD but I was so pleaased to find it here and read all the comments which give testament to the band's brilliance over all these years and albums and the amazing contribution to the music by Ric
Richard and David playing together for so long during the last few minutes really made it feel like they just didn't want to stop playing together and that breaks my heart. Rest in peace Rick Wright you will never be forgotten
I've been a Floyd fan since 1971 and David Gilmour's reaching guitar still makes my heart soar through the heavens, and brings tears of joy to my eyes.

@yellowsubmarine7. No it wasn't. David Gilmour will not perform Echoes again after the death of Richard Wright and l totally agree with his decision to do that. No Richard, no Echoes
2:10 60 year old David Gilmour starts singing. Normally, the line should be sung more gently since it fits more like this. But, his voice is like YES, WE ARE STILL HERE. ALIVE. FOREVER AND EVER. As if they are speaking to each other!! Love it.

I look forward to being in my 70s looking back to my teenage years and remembering Pink Floyd in the future

I don't want to criticize anything. The Wall is fantastic in its own right. A monumental work. Each of us has different taste. I don't blame David no wanting to play Echoes without his mate Richard... the two were incredibly in sync mentally, musically, emotionally and I can see it would not be the same. Totally agree that this song represents everything Pink Floyd. I'm always touched when I read that David won't play Echoes without Richard. True friends with huge respect for each other.
Huge respect?? Do you know how badly the band screwed Richard?
Gilmour brought back Wright to Pink Floyd, don't know exactly how he screwed him.
There are no words to describe this beautiful performance...RIP, Mr. Wright

Remembering the very first time I heard “Echoes”-changed my concept of what music can be forever!
It was a life changing experience! I found Meddle on vinyl in my grandparent’s basement (still have the copy). It was my uncle’s (who had passed the year before). This would have been in 1992, I was 11/12. This started the last 30 years of a love affair and obsession with Pink Floyd!
Also My life is changed.
I love your description of what uou went through during this song...i saw them perform it in Chicago and it was life changing!

Congrats on that. Must have been seerile
What I wouldn't give to go back in time and see this!
One of the greatest feelings in life is putting your head phones on, leaving the reality of this world behind for a bit. And letting the music of Pink Floyd take over your senses. Too bad most people don’t appreciate the greatness of Pink Floyds music.

Yes. Absolutely

Gary Gilmore was a murderer
The backing band is good. Most pros can keep a steady tempo.
Dave's band has always been top notch!! and still going sans Rick
Dave n Rick's voices are just amazing together. Something really special when the share the vocals.

So do I.

Even if you weren't there...you are now! Rick's music releases the inner spirit and appreciation of his mindset. Enjoy!
There's a special place in HELL for the person who thought it a good idea to place an advert in the middle of this masterpiece!!!
You ain't shitting
Damn right
I can BLOW your speakers
And I’ll never give google a fucking cent. Brave browser
Echo's to me is pink Floyd's magnum opus! to stick an advert in the middle is just beyond belief!!!
"Song" is too little a word for such masterpiece. Been listening to it throughout decades - I can simply never get tired of it.
Yes. It's an amazing musical journey.
Me neither man, that is some one of a kind music right there.
If this doesn't bring tears to yours eyes then there's something musically wrong with you. How can todays music make you feel like this. After 1 week it's forgotten. I will listin to this till the day I die. JD
If I don't listen to meddle at least once or twice a week I'll simply go mad...@_@
Agostino Maiello I know what you mean. This and The Dark Side of the Moon are experiences to say the least. I keep finding myself putting in some good earbuds and listening in a dark room.
That part at 18:00 when the guitar kicks in after the build-up - never fails to produce goosebumps every time I hear it.
Oddly enough, I was reading your post just as that happened! I have Echoes and Comfortably Numb as part of my pre-sleep playlist. Sometimes right at that point it fails. LOL
@@ttrails1 I must admit that there are a few "goosebump" moments for me with Pink Floyd, not so much with any other bands/artists.
Came here to write the same thing. Sometimes it even gets me so bad that my eyes tear up.
So true, I as well was reading your comment, reflecting on good times in my life associated with this song and sure enough I got the goosebumps. What a feeling as a human knowing there are others who experience the same reaction to mastery.
Their transitions were so tight, like a wap upside the head, you know it's coming but so dramatic
Sail on...
Nothing comes close to the sheer bliss of hearing Richard and David's instruments singing to each other from 21:10
So TRUE. Thanks for that post and timestamp.
Richards death absolutely shattered David. His death hit all of us hard. I tear up watching this.
Saw David live in 2015. He said at some point there were some songs he wouldn't play ever again. This is one of them. His voice sounded pretty heavy.
If i recall, David described Echoes as a musical conversation between his guitar and Rick's keyboards. So, yeah, I can fully understand him not wanting to play it with someone other than Rick. Especially knowing how close they were. They were truly brothers of different mothers.
@@jimo7593 ECHOES is not music - it`s magic. Created for us by Rick, David, Nick & Roger.

I’ve lost count of the numbers of times I’ve laid on the floor, lights out, and listened to this. Mesmerising, and the ending is gorgeous- no other word for it. If ever there was a masterpiece, then this is it. It has stood the test of time
I do that with Shine On you Crazy Diamond a lot.
We 60+70s Yr old talk about where we where when Floyd released new albums & the spiritual shift in the Cosmos after Umagumma, what we were doing the 1st time we heard Dk Side, Meddle, then Wish, of course in those days it may have bn the acid

Awesome
Reminds me of my youth, some 50 years ago. I still love it!

On the age of 69 now I grew up with PF … Echoes will be the music on my funeral …

I am probably one of the few folks who actually saw Floyd back in the '70's. It is bitteersweet to see this and it does bring out the tears and smiles.
Same on all accounts...
I saw them at the Oakland Coliseum in 1977
Hello from New Zealand. Saw them at Earls Court May 1973. when I was 17. I think it may have been the first London gig where they played the whole of DSOTM.....
I saw them in 1970 & 1971.
Very well said. I wonder if saying "billions" instead of "millions" would be an exaggeration, but I’m sure it’s at least hundreds of millions.

I’m not a musician , but in my head I know every note, timing, and word in this song. Got turned on to this album in the 70’s and still love it today.
It never gets old. Too magical .
i witnessed it live at Seattle Eagles Hall 71 or 72ish, dropped-off in my step-dad's Jaguar Mark II with my high school sweetheart, of the two at the time that were then current.
Same here I know this song so well I think I could play right along with these guys. Unfortunately couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.
After all these years, Echoes never fails to bring my emotions to the surface. I tripped to Echoes one night in the late 70s. Pure magic. Rest in Peace, Rick.
Gilmours guitar and Wrights keyboards always complemented each other superbly, as did their voices.
The last part of the song is like two old friends finally meet in heaven and recognizes each other and start to talk. Such beautiful thing we can dream.
I was so lucky to be standing there among the crowd in Gdańsk back in 2006 and listening to this... God bless you Rick!
This was not a Pink Floyd Performance, this was a David Gilmour Tour with other musicians invited by David, among them was Rick, the only other member of Pink Floyd during this Tour

Great song and a fitting title. Their music has echoed through my life for over 50 years. You are appreciated.
Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
The sheer beauty of the lyrics and music of ECHOES
transformed me.
This is by far the best performance of Echoes ever. Gives me goosebumps Everytime.
Every performance of Echoes was great--studio, Pompei, Gdansk, Brit Floyd.....
Time is great too with Wright and Gilmour vocals
I agree completely...
I continue to love the absolute hell out of this. Rest In Peace, Richard Wright, and thank you.
Gilmore and Wrights legacy grows every year. Incredible talent that leaves you in awe.
then maybe write his name correctly, it's Gilmour.
I got the album "Meddle" when it first came out. I was 10 at the time, & this track has been echoing through my life ever since then. It's been a very real part of me.
Amen Brother!
I was in my early teens and the effect was immense. I'd immerse myself so entirely with Meddle that I'd experience synaesthesia.
Jeffrey KRUPA I have had Meddle on vinyl since the mid-seventies.
Echoes was a great album
What a masterpiece. Rest In Peace Richard Wright. His legend will live on for generations.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s was the best of times and Pink Floyd was always playing on the stereo with my group of friends...as loud as we could stand it. I LOVE Echos...it is one of my absolute favorites of Pink Floyds.
So sad that the world is changing and not creating masterpieces like this for me anymore. What a band👏👏🇬🇧🇬🇧
Yes. The final performance as with Richards passing. David cited that it could never be performed the same without him. Greatest respects and well said Dave and RIP Richard. WHAT A TRIBUTE!!!!!!
Richard Wright the heart of Pink Floyd. RIP.
Roger Waters: The Writer
David Gilmour: The Soul
Richard Right: The Heart
Nick Mason: The Beat
I’d say
Waters the brain
Gilmour the heart
Wright the soul
Mason the power
Syd the inspiration
Requiescat in pace, Richard! Floyd will live on forever!
I've heard Echoes before but never really gotten into it that much. But after seeing this version everything has changed. After the video ended I sat silent for 5 minutes to fully understand what I just witnessed. Talk about being blown away
I understand you, it's the same for me bro, these two guys together....
