Great video Joe. We’ve had one for just over a year now. Use it as our family car but can have fun in it at weekends. It’s been great, very practical and very fast. When we first got it fuel economy was as you say but after about 1500 miles mpg got much better, around 30 mpg mixed driving and mid to high 30’s mpg on long motorway journeys.
Thanks Andy, glad you're enjoying yours, genuinely brilliant all round packages. Without driving one, nobody would believe how good they are as actual drivers cars! Glad to hear about the economy too, that was a worry 🤣👌

I got high 30s around 38mpg on s family holiday in in September before lock down. Car was in cruise control for mostly.
I’ve got a pre-facelift cupra ateca and have found that the the mpg definitely improves with mileage. Early days I was certainly getting late teens / early 20’s on the combined cycle but now it overs around 30mpg. On a long run I can get high 30’s which for this sort of car I think is pretty decent!
Nice video. Very fair comments for anyyone considering a purchase but what I would add would be that Road Tax in the UK rises very considerably once you delve into desirable options which ,in the case of a car like this one with a basic list price of £39k, will quickly breach the £40k list price thus activating an additional £310 per annum premium over the car's normal annual Road Tax during the following 5 years... That £1500 extra makes the optional sunroof or enhanced brakes or anything else opted for become even more expensive as I see it! Dave in Edinburgh.

How far back in time do you have to go for this car to be a supercar.
I have a 20-plate Cupra Ateca, so the pre facelift model. Completed over 7,000 miles since June 2020. Overall very chuffed. Some of the internal finishes are a little “low rent” compared to a VW or an Audi (which I have also owned) but the engine is terrific, goes like a stabbed rat, gear changes are smooth as silk, very grippy with the 4-wheel drive. I rarely put it in Sport or Cupra Sport mode and my long term average MPG is 29.9 MPG, decent enough for a 300BHP car. So I disagree Joe, you must be wringing the neck of that car ALL the time to drop to under 20mpg! There is loads of room, boot is a decent size (there is NO spare wheel, which I am not a fan of, but it is what it is) and you can easily seat 3 up in the rear. I also had to use the car at the beginning of January in fairly heavy snow and the snow ❄️ mode is amazing, really does what it’s supposed to do. And finally, are you a total wimp - there is NO need for heated seats unless you have all leather. The Alcantara heats up in no time at all, and I have been driving my car in sub-zero temperatures pretty much every day since 1st January 2021! Given this car shares the same platform as the MUCH more expensive Porsche Macan, I reckon it’s a great car at a great price.
Agree, the Cupra Ateca looks to much like a "normal" Ateca. Formentor better looking as it's a stand alone vehicle. The Ateca is very good value though compared to offerings from BMW/Audi
Yes,I'd take the Formentor over any SUV at 40k.Similar price to Ateca too.Formentor probably a bit smaller inside than the Ateca but lovely to look at,offers something a bit different to other SUV's at this level and a 0-60 time in 4.5 secs, which is pretty impressive.
@@bibby65 I went to have a look at the formentor parked outside my local seat dealer and it’s more like a raised hatch than a suv. It’s a case of trying to convince the misses (who wants the raised ride height) it’s the better option. Interior was lovely in formentor.
I just did not understood when you said it's looks like the golf inside, the new one is miles ahead of that interior and even the old one is nothing similar not in style neither in quality. The other thing is going full throttle most of the time and doing launches does not contribute for an average comsuption, that 17 mpg is not a real figure if you obey the law on b roads. Last you didn't even bother to show the boot and the space behind.
This thing is so popular here in Germany! Great package, great deal. Formentor is already getting very good lease deal!

Joe is always going on about heated seats like its really cold here in the UK. I have a m135i with leather seats and nearly always forget to turn the heated seats on (incuding this morning when it was -5) and my body temp warms them up in less than a minute so not having them in the UK isn't an issue. But summer tyres just don't perform at all in temps of +5 and below so that is an issue even in the UK.
17mpg ? jeez what are you doing lol. In the warmer months with the pre-facelift i regularly get 34-38 (mixed environment route ~ 45 mins) in sport mode and gearbox set to comfort and through winter mid to high 20s
front right wing poking out just abowe the headlight
So is this a x3 rival? Size wise?
x1
It's just a Seat Ateca with some tacky bronze trim and a powerful engine. £39k is a stretch when you think what you can buy for around that price.
It's more than that, it handles on a totally different level.
@@JoeAchilles1 I'm sure it does. However in the real world with traffic congestion and speed cameras is that the most important thing in a car? It's a very niche car and I'm sure those that buy it will love it.
How far back in time do you have to go for this car to be a supercar.
It was all looking OK until you revealed the MPG figures. Man that'll put a lot of people off. Shame.
You're very protective 😂
@@JoeAchilles1 Nah, just old 😂
Another informative video Joe, I think I would still opt for the Seat Leon Cupra R ST ABT (mouthful) over this Cupra Ateca, what would you choose Joe?
That looks like my cycling roads, pishill and Christmas common?
It is. On a recent video I noted Joe was using the Benson to Watlington road so guess he's from our neck of the woods.
If the pan roof tips it over £40k, add another £1500 to the cost of it through the VED surcharge. Not worth it.
Yep. Pan roof becomes a £3500 option.
do the Formentor :)
Let's see a formentor next joe
How tall are you...2,5 m?
£40k and no bonnet strut support?
VAG are truly penny pinching!
@666DW are you planning to sleep under the bonnet that is bother you so much?! 😜
@@roninesce8362 it was an observation and opinion. Am I not entitled to one?
Cupra Formentor next mate ?
Pre-facelift for me was better. I like the sleeper look
I wish they updates the dashboard more. Looks so dated for a 2021.
Yeah it is getting a little dated, but all works well and graphics look up to date
gives me audi q3 vibes
Should be less than 30k😂
Glad you did this video, it helped me decide never to buy one 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Joe, joe, you are now reviewing cars that us lesser mortals have to drive.... What's going on?!? We expect you to be flying much higher than this :-)
Was it just me or someone else who didn't like him putting those shoes so dirty in this car so clean??? haahhaha
Formentor is a much better looking car to my eyes.
Agree, was meant to have one to try this week, but previous journo had a little knock in it, hopefully get one soon 👌
@@JoeAchilles1 will be an interesting comparison
17 mpg ..... jesus
Bloody hell Joe you look like you are standing next to a clown car you are so tall 🤣
Last you didn't even bother to show the boot and the space behind.
they stole loads of design detail from Audi .... man its a mini rs3 a year or 2 ago
Yeah the chav look, looks really classsy if that's what you are into 😒🙄
Take Mat Watson to go karting
