    So here I am, Sunday.. almost middle of the night 23:00.. drinking wine and looking at Cricut circuit boards.. because I spent the entire weekend troubleshooting my partners Cricut Maker....
    Yeah... I think I'll get another brand instead.. :)
    Excellent video though! I won't go that deep into the rabbit hole just to get it working, sadly..
    Hope it will help others :)

    @Idotooby Thanks to your in-depth videos, I could troubleshoot my Air 2. After it turns on, I get the blinking red light. When power is turned on, the roller turns, but the carriage does not move from side to side. I got to the point where I attached the right (carriage) motor with a 9V battery, and the motor is working. During startup, there is resistance that I cannot move the carriage, so power is going to the motor, but it won't move on its own. Any ideas on what I can do? Thanks again. Sam

    I make an upgrade kit for the explore air 2 to improve the cutting and drawing accuracy. The typical slop on these machines is about .020" or .5mm from side to side and my mods reduce the slop to .004" or .1mm for much better cuts that actually match your design in design space.

    Mike can debris make it between the gear on the step motor and the shaft that controls the blade's vertical motion? If there seems to be slippage do you think it is the step motor or the plastic gear that broke? is there a way to lubricate the vertical shaft. My machine's blade seems to slip and might not cut. Any suggestions before breaking the entire machine apart?

    • @Idotooby
      @Idotooby  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh. Anythings possible. could be either or both the motor or the gear. I would take the cover off to see how it looks. Easy to do just two tiny screws on the back of the silver carriage cover. Just don't loose them... You'll never know unless you look deeper.

    Hi.. My cricut explorer air 2 was cutting fine and suddenly it stopped. And power light blinked red. So I restarted everything. Power light went white again. It only blinked red again after I pushed the Load mat button. The Cut button did not light up. I have gotten in touch with the support line and did all the recommended steps but it didn't work. Now, I'm ready to try dismantling and would like to know where should I focus on? What is the possible problem?

    I keep getting "tool not detected" for every blade except for the fine point blade and the scoring pen. I called cricut, walked me thru forced update and had me send in a video. They said they knew what was wrong with it and they need to send me a new machine. They just needed my receipt, well it's out of warranty and they won't tell me what is wrong even though they told me they knew what the problem was. I don't get any red flashing lights, just the error in design space. The tool holder goes to the right side, makes some noise and then sends it back to the middle and I get the message. Do you think the sensor is bad? I've tried cleaning it but at this point I'm ready to take the thing apart. Any insight would be appreciated. I've donated to your link and thank you so much for being like the only person sharing your knowledge and saving people hundreds!

    Hey great video. My machine moves side to side and loads back and forth properly and has no red light...but while it cuts it starts to make a stalling sound from the motor and randomly keeps the blades down creating unintentional zig zag cuts all over my design. Then at some points during the cutting process the blade stays up as well and won’t go down. I’ve had it for almost a year and only for the last three months it’s been making a little grinding noise because it needs grease, (I never bought any because they don’t sell it online and I’m too lazy to contact customer service). Any advice as to where should I start the troubleshooting... anything’s helps thanks 🙏👍🏾

    My machine has the problem of the cutting part (motor) what happens is that it turns on but the part where the blade goes does not hold, it only goes up and when it goes down it does not want to go back up to continue with the cut. ( I talk about the part B , dawn and no want up , only make a noise.

    Thank you so much for your post! I have an issue where it cuts with uneven pressure no matter what I cut. Specifically it cuts deeper on the left side but only scores the right. E.g. if I'm cutting the letter 'O' , the left side has cut right through but the right side has barely scored the surface. Any thoughts on this?
    P.s I've replaced the blade already with a premium fine point blade. I've also recalibrated and it cuts the left and bottom of the print and cut box but leaves the top and right untouched

    • @Idotooby
      @Idotooby  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your machine is still under warranty contact Cricut. If not, my guess is I would check your roller. It may be worn rubbers on the roller or debris/glue/glitter/dirt gummed up somewhere or one side of the roller has a missing spring/ gummed up/other mechanical issue. If not that it could be, but hard to believe, something to do with the carriage rod and or installation.

    • @Idotooby
      @Idotooby  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would start with the machine off. If you have a warranty contact Cricut as this may void your warranty. If not, see that clamp B fully raises by your hand. Next remove the silver cover. Note the three wires going to what is a sensor on the top of clamp B. It is covered by a guide for the clamp with two screws. By carefully removing them, making sure not to loose the spring, you can visually inspect to see if the sensor is obstructed by paper, glue, glitter, gunk, etc and clean as needed. If it is obstructed it will trick the machine into thinking the blade is up even when it is down. If that works, the next step is to be my third donor and support me and my channel by subscribing, like and donating. LOL. If not, let me know what you find and I will try to further assist. Best wishes.

    • @Idotooby
      @Idotooby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm.. If it does not roll inward at all I would probably start by getting access to the left hand motor as described in my other videos. At that point make sure nothing is jamming it. With the machine unplugged and off you could try rotating the large gear both directions by hand. It should move fairly easy both ways. Note if there is any strong resistance or unevenness. Also visually inspect the gears for any signs of damage or debris as well as the roller itself. If that all checks out you then want to test your motor as described in the video. Let me know if you run into any troubles or what you find.

    How do I avoid short outs ?

    • @Idotooby
      @Idotooby  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean avoid them while working on electronics, you can wear a static wrist band to absorb any electrical energy.
      If you are referring to avoid shorting the machine out in general, then... There is not much you can do except of course if you use the cartridge. In that case do NOT use the cartridge slot!!
      I believe the problem lies either in poor component quality control, or could possibly be something due to poor engineering either hardware or firmware. I also wonder if a cartridge could cause it as it is within the same circuit as the cartridge. Therefore, I vehimently advise against using the cartridge slot at all. The software has all of the fonts and things without them so I wouldn't risk it.

      I’m having the same red light issue! I seen your previous video about jammed pins. When I place metal between pins the red light will turn off but when I pull it out the red light comes back on. It’s almost reverse I think. Does that mean I have a jammed pin?

      I do not advise sticking something in to diagnose. Simply disconnect the cartridge after accessing it by taking off the left side. If the light goes out, viola... you more than likely have a crossed pin in the cartridge. If that is the case you can try to locate the short or let me know if you need a replacement cartridge. Alternatively you can use it without the cartridge without ill effect. I hope this helps.

      @@Idotooby i have the same exact issue as veronica calderon, (i have my replacement machine on the way so trying to fix the defective one) when the red light first came on i found 2 teeny tiny little metal wire looking pieces that came out of my machine! any idea on what they could possibly be from?

      Unfortunately based on what you told me, if you do not have a warranty, then you are most likely out of luck unless you can find a used cheap main circuit board which are as rare as hens teeth. Sorry, but it is more than likely a short on the main board and more or less a giant paper weight.

    Hi! My Cricut Explore Air cartridge port is not working. It will not recognize that a cartridge is in it. Any advice?

    • @Idotooby
      @Idotooby  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My recommendation is not to use it at all. The circuit those ports are on are susceptible to fail, and will leave the whole unit useless. Most of the things the cartridges can do can be done without them. You could check for a disconnected cable if you absolutely need to, but my recommendation is not to use it. I have about ten machines that have a problem with that circuit crossing with another that shorted out the whole system. Hope that helps.

      I am guessing they discontinued it as it is not needed as the software now offers what the cartridges did.

    My print and cut sensor black box was unglued causing it to be a bit loose. Could that be why it’s not working properly on that feature?

    • @Idotooby

      Hard to say for sure, but could be. Make sure your print is good then if it still has trouble, I would glue it and find out.
