Cricut Explore Blinking Red fix

- Here is the Cricut Explore Air 2 that is having a very common issue of a blinking red and white light. After trying the firmware update and several start and stop cycles I opened it up and found an easy fix to restore the machine to a working status. I thought this fix will help others facing similar issues.
Thank you so much for your video! Cricut support told me the red blinking light was the kiss of death on my Explore (9 years old now). It had been working just fine the day before. I took it apart and found a tiny little piece of paper that had been jamming the gear. Your video gave me the confidence to take my machine apart. Thank you!!
Just watched your video and took apart the wife's machine. The cable to the motor was up under the drive gear for the rollers! Pulled it out and she is running true.

Thank you this was the exact issue I was having and it easily solved it. Going to try this same solution on my 10-year-old cricut that stopped working too. Who knows could have been the same thing. Either way, I am super pleased that my new machine is up and running thanks to you! :)
WOW. I literally just fixed mine bc of this video! Mine wasn’t unplugged but the wheel that turns it had some debris stuck within the grooves and that’s why mine would load/unload!
Cricut couldn’t offer a fix for me and they basically just told me buy a new one!

Very helpful video. I opened mine, Explore 3 is not the same but I could remove and put back. However, I believe is that white tape behind the carrier (or how is called the one with the small cuter), I noticed is glued half of that on the metal and at the end where is bended has a small tear, I am assuming that could pe the problem for the power button staying on.
I did notice that when removing the panel behind the carriage, the top cover needs to be at about 30° to the horizontal so the edges of the covers don't interfere with each other.

Hello! Thank you for this video! I have a sqealing/grinding front roller and realized I needed to open it up to add oil. However, I can't quite get the oil into the gears because of all of the other things in the way. I am terrified I will put it all back together and then it won't calibrate right... ugh!
Anyway your video helped me get the left side casing off and also gave me confidence that I could get as far as I got! Thank you!
As far as the horrible grinding at the 5:11 mark, were you able to get rid of that? There are so many people having the exact same issue with that terrible noise!
It does bother me to hear that annoying noise, however since that doesnt effect its ability to cut I was ok. I feel its because some gears and the belt are slipping on the right hand side.
An update on the noise, we used the machine recently after a long time and there was no sound. I guess it magically disappeared! That atleast means the machine would just be fine with or without that noise!

The code set from factory in the machine's board/processor that runs the machine the way it should.
How do I remove the screw at the back of the cartridge?
I did this exactly and it is still blinking. Thoughts?

Mine when you power it on the carriage moves side to side then it stops in the middle and de b side starts to vibrate ☹️🤷🏻♂️

Try fiddling with the wires and snug them up. My guess is its some loose ends.
Cricut Explore Air 2 Clamp A replacement. Can clamp A be removed and is there a place to get a replacement?
I doubt that the company sells and replacement parts. Its a DIY machine and I really wished they empowered the users to know more.
Mine will start cutting then just stops and the light blinks red. It’s so frustrating and I’m wasting so much vinyl😫
Same exact thing is happening to me. I’m ready to break the whole machine. I got an order I’m trying to complete and just wasting time and money.
Also my blade carriage crashes on the side of the machine. Is that happening to you too?
@@dressedbymia4785 no mine doesn’t do that. I’ve been dealing with this for over a year! Cricut was not helpful. I don’t know if their customer service always stinks or if it’s a covid issue🤷♀️. I’m completely disappointed. I’m wasting money on vinyl and losing money on lost orders.
@@moniquegaydon1889 oh no! Mines just started doing this bullcrap this week. I hope I can figure it out soon if not I’ll be contemplating what machine to get moving forward and won’t likely be another Cricut.

Hi can you help me please. My machine power button is blinking red, white and the arrow button is blinking white also. It doesn’t even take in my mat. I’ve been waiting on the phone for 2 hours for customer service. Thank you.
Did it work earlier? something might be stuck , is the cutting head moving at all?
I’m having problems with mine as well but the light is not blinking it’s just solid red. Any ideas what it could be or how to fix it?
It sounds like a power issue. The machine runs at 12v (written just next to the power plug) however the supplied adaptor is 18 V. I tried and it works on 12V 3A power adaptor just fine. You may want to try another adaptor that is 12V and greater than 3A(big routers and some photo printers have these).Alternatively you may check the DC power of the connected adaptor with a multimeter to see if somethings wrong.

Hello, can you please show me what to do? My B carriage cuts only when I use my finger to press it down. It moves around and makes some strange noises while cutting. Please, is there a way you can be of help. The machine is just 5weeks old.
If it cuts only on pressing the button then I would try disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon cable and possible the connecting cables inside. The sound issue I guess is because of the misaligned or misplaced belt(it can happen on either side and can be a bit tricky to fix)
Hi, my explore air 2 won't pull in the mat. The rollers roll clockwise when the machine starts to push out the mat or whatever is in there. It won't roll counterclockwise to pull in the mat. The load/unload button blinks as it should when its ready to cut. It does nothing when I press it. Do you have any advice please? thank you @handyman cave s
Did you try reconnecting the cable to the motor? It could however be a software issue too. Also, i am assuming you already pushed the button with the arrow on both sides!

@@handymancaves161 took apart the right side and pressed both sides of buttom. Looking for wire to put on 9 volt battery to test motors. Copper wire?
Kitty Katapult I doubt the motor has an issue. Could be the power issue.
@@handymancaves161 You're right, the motors were fine. I tested both of them with a wire on a 9 volt battery. after putting back together, it still locks up at the point where the mat is supposed to be pulled into the machine.
Pulling the back piece off is really hard. I havent gotten it to budge yet. Was ot hard to get it back in place?
Not really! It is a bit tricky though only because the edges are not clearly visible. When pushing down a little more pressure is required until you hear a chuck sound.the same goes with pulling which first requires an upwards push first.
My cricut explore air 2 has exactly this problem, the rollers rotate where the blades go, a white light comes on and then disappears, can someone help me please, thanks

mine was a single blink of red when you press the power button and thats it. not blinking nor not turning on. I have asked cricut solution was replacement but its void due to I got it in US and shipped here in Pthe Philippines. If this wont work ama switch to cameo looks like majority of the cricut i have seen that is not turning on is for replacement thus its a known issue with cricut. won't recommend them really. have mine for 9months only.
The product doesn't seem to have been adequately tested for performance and stress. So many people are having troubles and the company seems to care less. I feel sorry for folks who have these issues. Unfortunately, there could be a simple loose wire connection that may be causing the failures and there is no straight way to find apart from trial and error.
Hi could you help me my machine doesn’t turn on the power button doesn’t even blink. it just have power in the cord and the light of that part of the blades. could it be the same problem like the video ?
It could very well be a loose cable, but I doubt if this is the same issue since you don’t see the power button light glowing. You may have to check the right hand side and see if a cable is not snug. It may need some patience to open up the right panel.

Hi my machine is not cutting all the way through and its damaging all the materials. Has anyone had this issue before and if it was resolved.
Yeah, think about it!!! Your cutting material… what cuts material a blade… what happens to blades after multiple cuts.. The blades wear out com’on now
Please understand if you take the machine apart as shown it does void the warranty and if this does not resolve the issue you wouldn't be able to replace it anymore either.

@Yasmyn legally... how does this "void" your warranty? does changing the oil in your car void your warranty?

@@suemason688 I just received one for Christmas and after a few cuts, it started doing the same thing. Firmware update has solved the issue twice, but for the past two weeks, it’s been a brick and I’m extremely frustrated.
I have tried these steps 3 times an it still isnt fixing the issue, any other ideas?
From what I understood the machine has just one way to say something is wrong. Try opening the other side and check and reconnect cables. Hope that fixes something.
