  • Hammock Gear provides some of the best values in hammock camping underquilts for those looking to get insulation for their hammock. The Hammock Gear Economy line is their budget line that includes the full-length Incubator underquilt and the 3/4 length Phoenix underquilt. These are full-featured under quilts with lots of positives and not many negatives. It is not hard to see why these are some of the best underquilts on the market today.

Down under quilts have proven to be, without question, the preferred choice for insulating the underside of the hammock. Due to the weight, compressibility, and versatility, they outshine the alternatives by a landslide. Their thermal efficiency has allowed brave campers to push the boundaries of cold weather hammocking. Virtually every hammock camper has experienced - through his or her learning curve, the dreaded CBS, or "Cold Butt Syndrome". And virtually every owner of an underquilt has effectively learned how to avoid it. Once you have experienced a down under quilt, you will "never go back".
Hammock Gear provides a full-length underquilt - the Incubator Econ, and a 3/4-length underquilt - the Phoenix Econ. They are known by many to be the most effective on the market today. One of the primary reasons is this: the Economy Incubator and Economy Phoenix are the only commercial underquilts designed with a contour that mimics the shape a person makes when they are laying in a hammock. One of the added benefits of this construction technique is that it leaves a "flap" of fabric along the top and bottom of every down-filled chamber. This extra fabric acts as a "floating baffle" which stabilizes the down and helps prevent its shifting. Another reason our UQ's are popular is this: they contain the ideal amount of down stability - the down stays put when it should, but the design allows for enough manual shifting of down when necessary.
The ULTIMATE underquilt for guaranteed comfort at a low price... The Standard length Economy Incubator is long enough to generously cover most hammock campers up to about 6’ 1”. Our Economy Incubator series utilizes downproof 1.1 oz / yd² (20D) Calendared Nylon Taffeta fabric and 800 fill power DWR Treated Grey Duck Down. This underquilt will protect you in temperatures down to its temperature rating. If you are looking for an underquilt that is hassle-free and will allow you to enjoy your hammock for more months of the year, you have found it.
The Economy Incubator comes with 9 anatomically contoured, differential cut baffles that run the length of the quilt. One of the things this construction technique does is to greatly reduce the shifting of down that is sometimes more noticeable in quilts made with premium down. This is one of the reasons Hammock Gear quilts are always 15-20% overstuffed. The differential cut, contoured baffles also provide the highest level of fit which is critical to keeping warm. The Economy Incubator comes complete with our state-of-the-art shock-cord suspension system, featuring color-coded s-biners that help you to easily orient the head and foot end of the underquilt for a quick and effortless set-up. All of our quilts are shipped with a complimentary cotton storage sack and a nylon stuff sack!

Thanks for the info! Great video! Do you know how they fit on Asym hammocks, like the Hennessy hammocks?

So, I'm looking for an underquilt and considering the HG Incubator. I think the biggest thing keeping me from ordering one is the nutty lead times when you order. I'm beyond hesitant to send them my money and wait two to three MONTHS for my underquilt to arrive. Way too much can happen in a couple months. Can we assume your underquilts were some sort of promotion where they didn't make you wait about three months ?

I got mine about 2+ years ago. The Lead times back then were 2-4 weeks, I believe. Most smaller companies are playing catchup this year because of their various shutdowns due to the pandemic.

@@AndyParrishOutdoors I appreciate the reply. I think a few weeks would be reasonable, so I guess at this point I will simply look elsewhere for an underquilt..... even though I'd like to order an Incubator.

I have the 40°F 3/4 length Phoenix for the summer and a 20°F full-length Incubator for the winter. And I layer both for down to zero... ❄️❄️

@@AndyParrishOutdoors Oh I will for sure keep that in mine to double up. I have a zero degree top quilt so that would be perfect for a super cold night.

shady company selling dangerous crap gear with ZERO support. Bought a premium incubator 30 and spent 2 nights freezing in 35-40 temps in my hammock. Emailed them and the response; "you set it up wrong, no one guarantees their temp ratings, best of luck". Don't waste your money on Hammock Gear

I've not had that experience at all. Which other vendor do you prefer?
