30 Different Fiddle Styles! Examples from ALL MAJOR FIDDLE STYLES

Released on World Fiddle Day 2021! Hope you Enjoy.
Please forgive the occasionally glitchy video (final cut pro on my computer does that for whatever reason and it's impossible to get rid of) and some sloppy playing in the transitions between styles especially- it was all filmed in one take and because of the various tempos I had no click track and had to jump in as best I could to each style!
Here are the 30 styles listed in order of play:
Scottish, Irish, French Canadian, Canadian Old-time, American Old-time, Métis, Cape-breton, Texas style, Bluegrass, Western Swing, English, Gypsy Jazz, Cajun, Country, Swedish, Klezmer, Prairie Canadian Old-time (Calvin Vollrath), West Coast, Contemporary, Ukrainian, New England, Breton, Blues, Shetland, Mariachi, Jazz, Maritimes, Choro, Folk (fiddle backup), Czech.

I’m an American banjo player and aspiring fiddler, and it really warmed my heart to hear Angeline the Baker. That was one of the first fiddle tunes I ever learned. Incredible playing, I aspire to play as well as you someday!
Dude this is amazing! You just fiddled for 20 minutes straight and didn’t miss a beat. I love it. Definitely sharing!
I think my fave is Bluegrass.
In cape Breton the sets are 45 minutes. sometimes they change the pianist.
What a tour de force! 30 is more than enough, but I'll throw in Argentine tango, Danish, and Norwegian Hardanger fiddle!

The versatility and possiblies of this instrument are endless..
Could throw in Paganini's 3rd? The one with the fingered octaves... Technically fiddle music... Just stupid hard fiddle music.
Then you also have the Finnish tango!

I am loving all the Canadian sub groups here. As a traveling Canadian folk musician I really enjoyed this.
Was wondering if the player is perhaps from Atlantic Canada, or have those styles really gained so much attention? Seemed to somewhat dominate the video (which I'm not complaining about 😉 ).

Watching and taking in your control of your right arm and hand in conjunction with the control of the bow with such varied techniques is truly a wonderful thing to watch. All the hard work you put in over the years has really paid off for yourself and your fans… of which I am a big fan.

The Swedish fiddle may have been similar to what my papaw heard as a boy when him and his brother would sit on the railroad tracks and listen to a Swedish man play his fiddle on his porch. The man was an engineer for the local mining company I think.

This is amazing!!! You played for almost 19 minutes without missing a beat! It's amazing to hear all of the different styles of fiddle music. I've been learning how to play the violin and I'm trying out fiddling and this is a great way for me to pinpoint which style I would really like to try playing! Again, great job!!

Isn't that one labeled "Klezmar" a Ukrainian tune? Klezmar I thought had a different sound.
Ok now the Ukrainian one plays and it sounds like Klezmar. Did you get those mixed up?
Blows me away how many different styles there are and even more so how you can separate them all like that.
Abso F-ing-lutely Brilliant Mate! You know, if you had a Book with all the Bowings, and a Play along, It would totally replace all that horrible Kreutzer & Tartini that young Violinists are forced to go through to learn Bowing. Might even make a dent in O'Connor's "American School", totally overpriced and not even remotely connected with how He Learned to Play. Total Admiration Michael!

Loooooove the first one. I had TH-cam playing random videos while I washed dishes and this one came on. I was very confused as to what kind of performance I was listening to, what style… then I figured it must be the sample video of 30 different styles. Amazing work to do all these.

You’re great; this is great. To me, your klezmer sounded less “klezmeresque” than the Ukrainian. I write that as someone from the tribe. I love your offerings.
That was my impression, also.
Plus thought it was weird that the Ukrainian didn't sound at all like the Chezk.
The key to the Metis fiddle is to tune AEAE and play the high notes on the low strings and low notes on the high. Most important thing though is to play it by beat instead of by bar, and it comes out so crooked it sounds like you forgot half of it and improvised.

I must say that I found "Cape-Breton" more simular to the type of fiddle style that I've heard here in Sweden than the actuall "Swedish" example but well done either way! Im by no means an expert just love the sound of a fiddle! Great work!

I’ve never thought of “New England” as a specific style, but as soon as I heard it I loved it and thought of videos and bands I’ve seen from Nee England.

You played all the major ones, but what about the minor ones? Can you do a video on natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, 2 minor, 6 minor, and relative minor styles?

@@UkuleleSioni Welsh fiddle has a very unique Celtic style that has almost a classical theme to it. While Irish fiddle has more ornamentation with bowed triplets, double stops and roles. This performance is amazing. If I could do this by my old age, I would Burn my fiddle and Yeet it out the window.
My view:
1-5 styles: Beginner
6-9 styles: Early intermediate, get on a stage for fun.
10-15 styles: Intermediate
16-20 styles: Advanced, get on a stage for pay.
21-24 styles: Please teach people for pay.
25-29 styles: Majored in fiddle performance at Belmont, ETSU, or other.
30+ styles: God level; win a golden fiddle at the crossroads.
One comment: The “Blues- [Generic 12-bar blues in G]” is more precisely a Boogie-Woogie, which is a subset genre of Blues, per Wikipedia and others. The passage performed is generally the left-hand piano or the double bass line, using the I IV V I progression.

Yes, it is Ukranaian but also is a klezmer piece, i believe. The styles are not mutually exclusive. I admit in future i will play different pieces to represent klezmer.

Well that was amazing! It is interesting to hear hints of cross fertilization all over the place. The only one I found a tad off was Shetland. Perhaps it was just the tune selection. PS I am in the Cape Breton Tradition.
