I respect his patience and maturity but I feel like he, in a way, let people go too far before speaking up. Oprah’s later treatment of him and the way she interrupts him constantly in this interview is one of the main reasons I don’t like it. Most of his mainstream TV interviews in the 90s are just pure trash. The media was so awful to him. It’s always surprising to me when people want to see this Oprah interview and the one with Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters, which also were just straight trash. He had some better interviews, but these weren’t good in my opinion.

Thanks for your reactions Seph. Michael is right to say he was scared of his father. Even I'm scared of Joe, he looks fierce even when he's smiling. He doesn't look friendly. Imagine that man calling you ugly and beat you when you were just a child. Michael and his brothers are really strong mentally to overcome the consequences of the trauma. I guess working hard with their music and building their own family helped them vent.

Here is a summery on La toya.
la Toya Jackson is Michael's oldrer sister.
in 1991 wrote a book entitled La toya growing up in the Jackson family where she alleges that her father would beat up the children and would insult them , she was the fist sibiling to talk about her father publicly.
She was also the first to expose his affairs . him calling Michael big nose and how the acne affected him , how he beat his sons during rehersals , Janet's marraige...etc
And that he was very much abusive .
Joseph and Kathrine denied this , Joseph stating he never did beat up his kids , Joseph was later asked in a brazilian interview if he called his son Michael big nose or ugly he also denied the claims.
So in the 90s while Michael was doing his things in the background there was a civil war between La Toya and her parents. It was massive
Later in 1991 she would also claime that Joseph was sexually abusive and that he raped her.
And she continued with her allegations all the way in 90s.
After her divorce with her then Maneger Jack Gordon
( She did not take back her allegations)
But stated that she now understood her father better and that it was coming from a place of love and discipline
When asked to affirm her charges about molestation she refused to affirm or take back her words stating she simply "loves her father dearly"
So Oprah here was asking about Michael's opinion if the charges of abuse are true and that's why they talked about his father briefly
So when Oprah asked " did he beat you " this was an allegation brought up by La toya who claimed that Joseph beat him up.
( She alleged that he beat him up and continied slapping/abusing all the way until he left home when he was an adult )
And Michael takes a long pause debating with himself should I be truthful or not.
And you could tell oprah wanted to ask more but decided not to push further as she would state later that he became very uncomfortable
, Obviously Michael heard about it even referencing her book in the glenda tapes ( 1992-1991 ) and talks about it briefly so he heard the charges.
But in this interview 1993 he pretends that he didn't hear or know anything about it to avoid answering.
It's good to know that all the sibilings called La toya a lier or doing this for attention except for Michael who stayed silent.
The detail made a good compilation about her charges from 1991 to 2011 and what did she say exactly watch the video for more information.
What she said about her father is heavy from beating , torturing putting a Russian roulette at the gun and shooting , burning, rape , beating , kicking and all sorts of verbal attacks.
    So it was very heavy
I hope this summery helps ☺️

A few things wrong with what you typed... Michael left his house at 24 not in his thirties so I would like you to go back and evaluate the rest of your statement because one bad Apple does spoil the bunch. And Joseph definitely did beat his kids in many cool ways, but as far as the sexual abuse goes. Janet has straight up called Latoya a liar on interview. In Latoya in 2001 took back the allegations of sexual abuse She however would not take back the allegations that he would beat them very cruelly

Yes that was mistake on my part perhaps l was typing fast and thinking that Michael did his interview in his 30s or something he did not leave home in his thirties İ will correct that.
But besides that l don't think l made other mistakes l just gave a summery about la Toya's allegations
However La Toya never took her allegations back noy on television and not in her book starting over
And her book was released in 2011 not 2001 but maybe you made a typo
it's a myth similar to the " jordy Chandler confessed evan made him lie " it didn't happen BUT evan did make him lie...
Also Michael said la toya told the truth and in her documentary said the same matches story that la Toya used to tell
Maybe she is just calling her a lier
The answe is we just won't know.
She didn't take it back nor conform it that's what happened in starting over she claimed how Jack Gordon made her loe about Michael however as far as joe's molestation go he is not mentioned and l have a copy of the book

At the time Michael’s older sister LaToya was in a mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive relationship with her husband/manager Jack Gordon and he forced her to do a lot of things like pose naked in Playboy, tell lies about Michael and threatened to have Michael and other family members killed if LaToya didn’t obey him since Jack had ties to the mob. He even forced LaToya write a “tell all” book about he Jackson family in which she told many lies and years later after managing to escape from Jack and getting a divorce LaToya wrote another book all about her marriage and setting everything straight. Jack even made LaToya say that she believed the 1993 allegations which obviously hurt Michael but Michael understood LaToya’s position and he eventually forgave her and they made up years later. Even after LaToya divorced Jack, he continued to tell lies about Michael and some are still brought up and believed to this day

At that time * before the oprah interview* she didn't say anything negative about michael, she only exposed Joseph for having a love child which now we now is true, she talked about physical abuse, she also said joe sexually abused rebbie, btw in the glenda tapes *Michael's recorded phone call with glenda* he said everything latoya said in her book was true.

@@user-ox9ko6sb6rI don’t believe that about Rebbie at all. She was always close to her mother and father. The only kid that caused trouble in the family was Latoya. This was so many years ago but I remember losing respect for her after all the crap she did. I would have disowned her if she was my child.

    • @user-ox9ko6sb6r

@@Yeti_the_katfrankly Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant. LaToya Jackson spoke up about sexual abuse at the hands of Joseph Jackson, and she never recanted these statements later in life. Her family's denials and accusations of her lying do not negate the truth of her claims. The Jackson family has a history of covering up for one another; they protected Joseph when LaToya exposed his love child, other families, and the physical abuse he inflicted. In the early 1990s, LaToya's book suggested that Rebbie was sexually abused by Joseph, and Michael Jackson was recorded affirming the truth of LaToya's book. I choose to believe LaToya and Michael over the deceptive narratives of Joseph and Katherine.

I'll try to explain the whole thing with La Toya Seph, so she published an autobiography book in 91 talking about their father and abuse and everything, even wrote about Joseph's secret 2nd family, I wonder why he said he didn't read the book, on the phone recordings shortly after, he said privately that they had to smile and portray maintain this certain image of the "perfect african american family" and say stuff like "papa Joe was wonderful" and this and that, they'd take pictures together but it was all publicity, La Toya said the same thing, and according to Michael himself on the tapes he said: "then La Toya told the truth, when things start falling apart, you gotta cover for it", that must be why Michael didn't really speak that openly about his father, not like on those tapes, also must be very painful, and remember this was the very first time where Michael spoke a little more in depth about his childhood and the treatment from his father publicly, he kinda confirmed here what La Toya said about physical emotional and verbal abuse, but being live watched by approximately 90 million people, THE MOST watched live interview in US history, he probably didn't want to seem like he was taking sides and you can see him hesitating a bit to answer when Oprah asked him if his father beat him, saying "sorry please don't be mad", he was still scared of his father. She did get married with a very abusive man who was connected to the mafia, but I don't think what was in her book were lies otherwise Michael wouldn't have said she told the truth. By 1993, her husband/manager did force her to pose for playboy and a few months after this interview when the allegations hit about Michael, initially she spoke in Michael's defense, but after her husband saw how much money could be done by saying Michael was guilty she was forced to suddenly change what she said, or he would kill Michael, Janet and her, in 92/93 was when she said their father sexually abused her and her older sister, now that might have been her husband's influence since that was not on her book, but her 91 book itself, a lot of the things turned out to be true and Michael said what she said were true so there's that. You should react to a video by the channel The Detail called The Exploitation of La Toya or something, it's very good and explains the whole story in detail.

La Toya Jackson is Michael's older sister.
She was in an abusive marrige to Jack Gordon
She aleged that he father was physically, mentally and sexually abusive.
And now you have 2 versions of the story.
Version 1 : Jack Gordon forced La toya to lie as Jack indeed was very controlling and abusive once beat her up till she landed in a hospital and had ties with the mafia as he did force her to indeed make up lies about her family and he did force her to pose in playboy or else he will have her family killed.
Version 2 : is that La toya told the truth about Joseph because she also said many truthful things almost 70 oercent of her book came out to be true like Joseph having an outside doughter calling Michael big nose , Janet photoshoot with renee etc...
People belive this because not even once after she divorced Jack although La toya apologized for many lies she never once took back her claims against her father.
When asked about it , she dodged the qustion and regused to answer twice in t.v and bever brought it up in her second book starting over where she was supposed to mention the full truth she never stated that her father didn't moleste her.
Making people wonder if she truly loved her father and was forced to say this why will she not take back these lies why will she refuse to answer more than once.
And when she was asked if she was a viegin she refused to answer asking how can she be asked such a question tried to hold up and not cry but cry...this convincing people that she told the truth.
It's kind of a debated topic in the MJ comunity, the detail made a video about her please watch it to understand the full story.
Finally the reason why some people may belive this version is because Michael him self said " then La Toya told the truth " and referenced her multiple times as a truth teller in the glenda tapes
People will belive one of these 2 versions but remember please that this topic is debated anyone who tells you one of the two versions is the absolute truth is just biased.
I also recommend if you want to hear about La toya from her own mouth to watch her on interview with Jane Whitney

Wow I just went to look how often The Jackson 5 would have an album out out of curiosity and I was shocked, they literally released 3 albums in ONE YEAR, check out the release dates in order:
    - Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5 - December 12, 1969
    - ABC - May 8, 1970
    - Third Album - September 8, 1970
    - The Jackson 5 Christmas Album - October 15, 1970
    - Maybe Tomorrow - April 12, 1971
    - Goin' Back to Indiana - September 29, 1971 (and then in between was the release of Michael's own solo albums as a kid):
First solo album: Got to Be There - January 24, 1972
    - Lookin' Through the Windows - May 23, 1972
Second solo album: Ben - August 4, 1972
    - Skywriter - March 29, 1973
Third solo album: Music & Me - April 13, 1973
    - Get It Together - September 12, 1973
    - Dancing Machine - September 5, 1974
Fourth solo album: Forever, Michael - January 16, 1975
    - Moving Violation - May 15, 1975
    - Joyful Jukebox Music - October 26, 1976
The Jacksons - November 27, 1976 (now the group is called the Jacksons)
    - Goin' Places - October 8, 1977
    - Destiny - December 17, 1978
    - Triumph - October 18, 1980
    - The Jacksons Live! - November 11, 1981
    - Victory - July 2, 1984
    - 2300 Jackson Street - May 30, 1989 (and then Michael's oen solo albums as an adult which you already know)
Like man looking at this Michael really did nothing but work, and this is just the releases of the albums, imagjne the time it took to record and he said he used to record for hours and hours until it was time to go to sleep, that is if he even got the proper sleep, and he was the one who worked the most, the other brothers were older or occasionally would do background vocals, it was Michael who was the lead singer, not to mention tours, interviews, TV shows in between must be sooo exhausting for a kid, they really wanted to get as much out of him as possible, no wonder he missed his childhood so much, the only thing he did was rehearse and record, he could never even play with toys, nothing, and then on top of that had to deal with his father constantly pressuring him, beating him and making fun of him, and the fame, he never went to school with other children and instead had to have a tutor with him while on the road, damn, ever since he was 5 years old, imagine that, he lost a crucial time when he was supposed to develop social skills during his formative years, but he was so isolated because his father did not allow him to socialize with other children, and even if he did, his fame wouldn't allow it, and it's extremely sad .. didn't pay attention to his needs, didn't see him as the kid he was, but as a machine to make money.

Oprah did ask personal questions, but they are the questions most ppl wanted to know the answers to, when this first came out, nobody knew about him having vitiligo, his life was so unique and different to most ppl, that everyone was so curious, when you are a big star, your life is never private, unfortunately that is the price of fame, Michael is so sweet and adorable though ❤

Facts about the cultural impact of this interview you should know
    1. It was, and it remains the most watched TV interview in American history, drawing more than 90 million viewers in the US alone.
    2. It pushed the album dangerous back up the charts, which was released in 1991. And this interview was 1993. So millions more copies of dangerous were sold because of this

This is actually the first time I’ve seen it since it first aired and it’s just as bad as I remember. I agree with Michael that he should be asked about his craft, his artistry and his process for creating such great music. Michael never came out and Spoke about it, so all there was, were speculation and rumours. The Bad album cover in 1987 is what really started the whole thing about his skin color. Only here in 1993 did he tell the public. That’s a lot of years of radio Silence and room for questions

I think vitiligo what at that time already well known. It's just that medical records are private. Michael was diagnosed at the same time with lupus. You can see the typical butterfly rash from lupus on Michael's cheeks and nose in some pictures around the time of Thriller. Michael never talked about lupus, although it causes awful joint pain, muscle pain, migraines and later inflamed lungs. This was confirmed in his autopsy. When you are diagnosed with lupus plastic surgery in contra indicated, because the skin loses the ability to heal. He had only a nose surgery, this is not considered plastic surgery because many people have blocked air ways or a broken nose. He needed reconstructive surgery on his nose because his skin didn't heal. In his autopsy it was confirmed that he had osteo arthritis in almost all his joints. He only had a surgery on his scull, they placed a balloon under his scull that he had more elasticity. He had migraines after the burn accident. He had no scars from plastic surgery. Michael never talked about his skin disease lupus, although it's really a horrible disease. It often comes together with vitiligo.

Michael is adorable here, I hate to see him getting sad though. Great and insightful interview if you forget about Oprah. I couldn’t care less about whether she believed the allegations or not, although I wish she didn’t. I’m mostly bothered because she gave the most recent accusers a platform, and those guys are just money hungry narcissists. She made it very obvious she didn’t care about Michael or whether they were true or not, she just cared that it was an “accurate representation” of abuse. She also was very two faced with the Jackson family, Katherine trusted her as well as the rest of the family only for her to turn around and stab them in the back. Wherever the money goes I bet you’ll find Oprah right there with it.
All she cares about is painting herself to be an advocate of abuse and some sort of powerful angel, yet she’s everything but. I do know what she is though, a clout chaser.. they all are.
The stuff that Joseph said to his children is just devastating. I try to understand the man, and I respect him on some levels, but I cannot and will not justify any of what he did to them. It’s just heartbreaking.
I really sympathize with Michael and understand him here. I’ve had a difficult relationship with my father, won’t go into detail but there have been times where I was frightened as Michael is. Still despite all that he’s my father. I’ve matured, and so has he, things are better and I forgive him with all my heart. I may never understand why he did what he did, but I won’t ever not love him.

He had the nerve to say after with an arrogant tone: "well I didn't know but if he did, he did it all the way to the bank" 🙄😡 he didn't care I doubt he ever apologized cause he didn't think he did nothing wrong and he got the money so what does it matter that he messed up his son's mental state for life 🙄

And getting to adress and set the record straight about some of the things that were being said.
But it annoys me how much Oprah keeps interrupting him and some of the topics she talks about and how she does it. Granted, some of that can be atributed to the fact that this was live and they only had a limited amount of time but it's so frustrating.

This interview made Oprah a much bigger star, In 2019 Two men claimed in a program called Leaving Neverland that Micheal abused them, both suing for hundreds of millions, It's now been totally debunked with many facts, one of the Men said he was abused many times in the Neverland train station between 1988 to 1993, but the train station wasn't built until 1994 😯 Oprah jumped on this program like a Vulture in 2019 because her business and ratings were failing and made a talk show called after Neverland where she Interviews these two Men knowing there was no train station because she was there doing this Interview in 1993 and even said at the start that she had the full tour of Neverland. 🐍

    • @Samua3
      @Samua3 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

But the video that debunked the allegations and all details, has itself been debunked.
Fur example there actually was a station that was later either renovated or rebuilt (i can't remember which) ... and all other things were basically back on the table.
But the problem is that us fans can be too protective and our lives for our hero makes us overlook important facts and even wording.
So, for example, when asked if he abused those little boys he didn't deny it. Instead he said that he would never hurt a child.
Sadly abusers often don't consider it hurting a child.
When he was asked if he was going to stop having little boys sleeping in his bed he said he wouldn't. Very strange from every angle really but we fans like his music so we become blind to this. If Trump had little boys sleeping in his bed how many would view that as fine?
I don't like Oprah... she's an incredibly dubious woman herself! I saw a horrible picture of her clearly setting up a very young, overly made up girl, with Weinstein. She has plenty of allegations against her too and maybe we ought to all just stop ignoring the excess of worrying behaviour by these people just because they are celebrities? One accusation isn't great but these people have a huge stack of them, and lack of evidence isn't lack of guilt.
I think I can like some of his music still but I can't defend his choices and actions even if there is no proof. Sleeping and showering with little boys is, just in itself, not okay. And parents allowing that just because he was a star, is not okay. If anything untoward happened then that is sickeningly not okay. ☹️

    • @N0EL-7007
      @N0EL-7007 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@Samua3 it’s been debunked for lots of things, not just the train station lie. Which is still a lie because it didn’t exist.
(I tried to list all their lies below but my comment wouldn’t go through. I’d recommend reading the critical analysis of LN in the Michael Jackson allegations blog website though.)
If you study their past depositions and then LN you can really see just how much stuff they lied about.
They both only accused because they were struggling financially and wanted to be relevant. Wade didn’t claim anything until his career crumbled and his wife wanted to leave him. He filed his lawsuit under seal for *MONEY*. As Wade himself did say, his story would make him “relatable/relevant”.
James didn’t claim anything until shortly after his family was sued for millions.
Every accuser was either driven by money or weren’t stable. Both of their cases were thrown out and the judge said it was all not believable.
It’s important to remember no child ever claimed anything against Michael, only their parents or in Wade and James case when they were unstable adults. In fact, every child strongly denied them until a manipulative adult in their life saw a money opportunity (Wade and James are their own manipulative adults.)
Also the supposed showering is a lie from Blanca Francia, who would later contradict herself. She was one of the Neverland employees who took tabloid money and also blackmailed Michael.
I also find it quite silly to say fans are too protective to the point of missing out on critical details and facts. I personally researched before becoming a fan, because I wasn’t comfortable with the thought of possibly supporting a monster. I don’t think it’s reasonable to claim this, especially with the amount of research fans do.
I know I’ve done enough to confidently say I don’t believe any of them.

Oprah was rude, intrusive and unprofessional, I mean she’s a Snake for a reason. The questions about him being a virgin, his love life, the fact that she had to keep noting that he was abused which MJ was uncomfortable talking about and just how she really stretched out those questions about the rumors when he just wanted to clear it up real quick and move on to the more important questions about his art etc. (which she barely touched on). The virgin question though, don't even get me started. That's something no interviewer should EVER ask but of course no one looks at Michael Jackson like he's human which is infuriating and frustrating. He even said in the interview how an artist's craftsmanship is what's most important but she still kept asking the private questions. A true snake if you ask me. And yeah when Elizabeth joined him, he definitely was uncomfortable because he just said he wished he proposed to her lol and he wasn't expecting her to be there. I can imagine it's also uncomfortable when someone is speaking about you right in front of you, I mean how are you supposed to act in that particular situation? Especially being as humble as MJ, when someone is praising you right in front of you, it has to be uncomfortable. Body language experts here on TH-cam will tell you that and they'll tell you he was a shy, humble, sincere person. But when he was asked if the way he was teased about his nose affected his choice to do his nose, he did say no and that's the only time he wasn't sincere. But he later clarified that in other interviews where he seemed more comfortable. Body language experts love him because they can especially see how intelligent and honest he is. But great reaction as always Seph loved it! Also when MJ said he only changed 2 things on his face. It's true he only did his nose and chin (which he also said in his book “Moonwalk”). When you change your nose, your whole face is going to look unrecognizable. Especially going from a wide nose to a thin nose. But those cosmetic surgeries stopped in 1986. Then it was the vitiligo, lupus and burn complications that changed him much more, it made him wear tons of makeup and get reconstructive surgeries for the burns on his scalp and the skin lesions that lupus caused on his face. Lupus and the burns also gave him alopecia on his scalp, eyebrows and eyelashes so he was forced to wear wigs and he really had to cake that makeup on to try and look normal.✍🏽👑🎯💯(I know I’m ahead of Part 2 but it’s just I had my set perspective/summary on this entire interview.)

No offence but I heard that body language "experts" are not really reliable but yes I agree with you that Michael was all of these things, however I have to disagree when you said he was not sincere. Oprah asked him if the reason why he first started doing surgeries was because of not liking the way he looked in his teen years, not really if his father's teasing affected him to do it, and although it did have a very deep effect on his self esteem, the reason why he first started was because he broke his nose in 1979 and needed surgery for that, so he didn't really lie.

It was Oprah's more recent actions (backing the Leaving Neverland stories) that truly made us fans hate her.

I don't think it was so much the questions that was annoying me, I think it was that she was asking them all in one go ya know? Just spread them out?

I'm just reading over some of these comments, and it seems to be 50/50 on the people who thought this was *Ok* and people who thought like you and me do. I personally think this part felt more like an interrogation then a friendly chat ya know?

I cant stand Oprah now. But these questions were necessary. He has to clear the record on these rumors. Dancing around the questions just comes off as more disingenuous.

You have to understand that this was the first interview after thriller and bad. And the world got soo many questions. I remember this interview. I was 13 years old and we all wanted to know everything she was asking. Obviously today we know much more but at that time no one knew anything about his skin change etc. So I understood why she asked those questions. It was a different time you know

It seems like Seph was actually saying that her asking the personal questions right after each other was annoying and overwhelming. He’s saying if you have to ask them, at least soften the blow a little by putting in some lighthearted questions lol! (I know that the one about why he grabbed his crotch eventually came 🤣)

I don't like that this is edited
And completely stripped of the produced segments diving deep into Michaels childhood.. I remember the first time ever watching this and almost the entire family was in tears because you really never got to hear Suzanne De Passes words and the price he actually paid. Here all that is taken out and all you get is Michael talking. You should truly experience the entire thing as it aired, It truly adds more to the full experience. I can find you an HD link with everything still included if you give me an hour.🎯

Oprah was ok, she got some good interviews later on. sure some questions were kinda wild but she was still young here. She did get famous for a reason she became much better at getting people to open up and talk about their traumas properly and supporting them. I guess she was already trying this here with MJ but was too inexperienced with the back to back questions like you mentioned. plus MJ is a really closed off person on top of that.
The hate towards her from the fandom came when she decided to not even take a neutral but anti MJ stance when the accusations happened and she did even more than just that after his death which youll get to at the end of ur mj journey.

The fact is that he‘s only had his nose done (+ the chin cleft) for reconstuction, because he suffered from lupus, which destroyed his nose tissue. Besides of that he also lost his lashes, eyebrows and hair. Additionally the disorder caused him to have a reduced lung capacity.

@@sandy80_gerto be fair he had nose surgeries before needing reconstructive surgeries, but I do believe later on due to lupus, healing difficulties, and possibly the Pepsi burns he had to go under the knife often. No doubt he started having surgeries due to insecurities, but I think the majority of it was health related and or just because they botched it. Still I agree with what you’re saying. ☺️
