how come this is the only video that shows the steps like mixing and thinning and gives recommendations on ratios.. greatly appreciate this, I expect a lot of people who watch this will get a LOT of enjoyment out of applying this advice!
I kid you not, I found this video because I came here looking for face painting tips so I can custom paint a Cable print I just got and it's literally a 1/12 variation of the exact one you're doing lol. P.s, You're a legend and this paint came out looking spectacular! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us all.
I hope you don’t mind me asking but where did you get the print? I’m currently working on a life size wolverine head print but I would like to use this print next
A small bit of blue wash on the jaw line would get that realistic look on another level, usually it’s like a 3 level paint of yellow on forehead, red in the middle blue-ish on the jaw line. Was really hoping to see the blue under the 5:00 shadow
Ou man, absolutely stunning job. From the beginning i was just about “ hey its not the real skin tone “ but after the rose wash i was just “ ou sh*t thats amazing “. Thanks alot for this amazing tutorial. Definietly need to print tons of heads and start learning. 💪💪 keep doing an amazing job ! Thank you.
Well thank you, I was interested in mixing paint to get skin colour, and what I got here is mixing skin colour paint that results in skin colour paint. Genius!
I would love if you did a new video on painting faces for 32mm tabletop gaming miniatures! Some of this translates to the much smaller scale, but I’d love to see how close you can make a tiny face match the scale you often show on here!
I really love your video on the skin tones with no airbrush. I am about to do some repaints from my 1/6 scale figures I was curious if these colors could also be used for a more paler skin tone? would we use more of one color and less of another? and is it possible to see it in a future video? It's much easier for me if I see the process. I've tried following a tutorial that's more verbal without a step by step and just explained with the finished result in the aritist's hand but Ive always found it easier seeing it step by step. and was curious if we could see what paler skin tones would look like.
Heck Yea man, you knocked it out of the park, I appreciate the glazing in your skin tones around the eyes and cheeks. Airbrushing all the time gets boring for me.
Nice, that video came just in time, the most skin tones I have done was on daredevil mouth or batman etc. , and I have been considering a one punch man project but kept putting on hold because of the face and with this video being so educational I might as well bite the bullet , a great one as always keep up the good work.
This is so good, I wish what I was painting was as big as that head but its a JoyToy size and I can barely see it, You can see it when You mess it up though lmao!
Keep up the good work, man! Can you make a video using generic acrylics and mixing your own skin tone from primary colours? , because I don't really have stuff like Vallejo where I live. That would go very well with this video
mix a lot of white with some brown and pink it will get you a basic Caucasian skin tone I have no idea how to get the skin tone of someone like blade but I would imagine adding more brown and less pink, you could try to experiment with yellow and red to get different shades, that is what I do, I experiment a lot, just look for your desired color and how to mix it online and try to achieve the same result, don't be afraid of making mistakes and test your mix on failed prints, (وحظ سعيد يا استاذ مروان)
Great tutorial! Thanks for the tip on the skin tone also have you seen the Sideshow Superman call to action video? I ask since they do a method of using 3 washes being red, yellow and blue on the skin and was wondering if you can try doing a video showing that method that the painter showed
Yes Ive seen the video. I use that method every now and then. It's been around for a while. I dont have any plans on doing a video on it any time soon but maybe in the future.
I see lots of painters using a coat during the painting stage mostly after having a decent base color. What is that coat? a mat varnish? or something else?
Hi Henry great video , skin tones is one of my weakest strengths in painting. The glazes you did on cable did you take them around the side of the head too .
@@TheCreativeCollector i tried the citadel varnish today and it is amazing! I used edding mat vanish before and it came out glossy on my model for some reason...anyway thanks again.
Just discovered your channel it’s amazing! Subscribed! Just one question, when you seal the colors, do you use brush as well? Do you spray the brush and then brush the sculpt? ( I just didn’t understand that part)
Hi there, greetings from argentina!! I always watch your vídeos and tutorials, and let me say u r a great modeler, true. I got a question, perhaps u can help me, i use to print my figures in 1:16 más sufer big time when i got to paint the eyes, how can i paint the eyes well? What numbre of brush or pencil do i have to use? Ir how can i create ny own very VERY thin brush? I hope u can help me. And sorry for my bad english hehehe thnx in advance
What is wisping? I havent heard that before, I heard of Wispa Chocolate bars but never wisping. I get the feeling I should know but thats maybe why myfaceups dont come out as good as yours lol!😜
I have stupid question. Why you have to seal base color before washes, can I apply washes color without seal base color? Will the results be different?
I seal because I sometimes wipe away excess wash off for a certain effect and sealing keeps from wiping the paint underneath off. You don't have to seal however the effect is a little different because the wash will bite more on unsealed paint. I do both.
@TheCreativeCollector thanks for the reply man, I wanna take my first swing at painting 1/12 head sculpts as best i can. If you can recommend any other reds to achieve that same skin tone in the recesses, I'd really appreciate the help.
I'm having an issue with mine. Using the Citadel paints from your other video, the paint rubs off of my resin prints even after it is completely dried. It rubs off to the point that it doesn't look like it was ever painted. Any tips to get the paint to stick better?
But what about large smooth skin areas like on a woman. I dont have a problem painting skin tones on faces and male models who usually have more texture to the skin, but female models have a much smoother finish and its hard to hide your brush strokes on those larger areas. Id love to see how you work around this.
It depends. You can start with basic sets that'll get you started and mix your own paints. You can but other sets along the way. Plus if you want to airbrush that's another expense.
how come this is the only video that shows the steps like mixing and thinning

no idea how much help this is

Than you for your vid❤ I'm a beginner for skintone thanks for your guide me

Man, I wish this would have been around in December when I printed my Stephen King. Nice video.
Thanks!

Absolutely

Just get in there and go for it!
Hey dude great video just subscribed did you seal again after the pastels?
Thanks and yes I did
Great work....do you use magnifying glasses?
Yes I do. Otherwise I couldn't see squat

This is awesome great work i really like your videos man helps me in my painting ! What printer did you use for cable ?
I used the Linant Deck
Im blown away every time I see you paint skin. Looks great. I had a question, did you use the rose wash on the sides of the head as well?
Yes I did
Wow man
Can you make a video about that pastel you used for the shaved off stubble? It adds sooo much to the face its amazing and I want to know more
I already have a video on pastels. Check it out in the tutorial section.
@@TheCreativeCollector ohhh thank you!! I just found your channel, so I will have a look!
I see lots of painters using a coat during the painting stage mostly after having a decent base color. What is that coat? a mat varnish? or something else?
Most likely. I do this so I dont smudge the paint when I need to handle it.
Great work man. One question. At what percentage did u print this Cable to get it to 1/4 scale ? Thanks
I printed him at 150%
Dude that Pastel u used to bring out the 5 o'clock shadow is crazy! Does it stay on the figure as much as the Arcrylics?
Yes it does. Just make sure to seal it so it doesn't rub off.
@@TheCreativeCollector awesome! I definitely gotta try this out here soon
Any tips on how to do really short hair/buzz cut looking hair?
Try using pastels for a shaved head. For short hair just a base then dry brush a lighter color over it.
@@TheCreativeCollector thanks, I missed that tip my first playthrough of this video. Appreciate it!
God you are so talented. Maybe someday in 500 years I will be near that good. Probably not.
Thank you!
What can i use to seal the paint to protect it from chipping off?
I use Krylon Maxx Fusion flat in a rattle can.
Hi Henry great video , skin tones is one of my weakest strengths in painting. The glazes you did on cable did you take them around the side of the head too .
Yes I did
@@TheCreativeCollector thanks I will have to give it a try
@@TheCreativeCollector would this way also work for female models
Yes but you would need to be subtle in the tones since most females skin is softer and not as dark.
@@TheCreativeCollector thanks this should help me out . This is why I don't put pics up of my models as skin tones let me down
Hi, would you recommend another varnish than the krylon as it’s hard to get in Europe ? Thanks 🙏
Vallejo and Citadel have a good one to use

You can use these Tamiya brushes I use for that plus you can use a fine tip mechanical marker for eyes as well.
What color pan pastel are you using for the stubble?
Black
What primer do you use?
Check out my newest video.
What paint would you recommend to replace the Panzer Highlight Flesh?
You could go with a basic Vallejo base flesh. Maybe a dab of white to lighten it up a bit.
@@TheCreativeCollector Thank you sir! Loving your content.

Haha! Wisping is just another term for lightly brushing.
Does this same process work for 1/12 scale heads as well?
I'm sure it will
@@TheCreativeCollector Good to know, thank you.
I saw you mix flat red withe white but you forget to say you have put skin color to the mix too
Did you put skin tone to the pinkish wash ?
Can you tell please i need know for make the mix like you did
what should i do i mixed my acrylic paint with water but the first layer in nearly transparent how do i fix this
Don't use as much to thin it down. Try using thinner rather than water. Also make sure you're using primer first.
how do you seal paints?
I use Krylon Color Maxx flat from a rattle can.
I have stupid question. Why you have to seal base color before washes,
can I apply washes color without seal base color?
Will the results be different?
I seal because I sometimes wipe away excess wash off for a certain effect and sealing keeps from wiping the paint underneath off. You don't have to seal however the effect is a little different because the wash will bite more on unsealed paint. I do both.
@@TheCreativeCollector Can I apply this technique to other parts? like legs or chest

toothbrush.
