I've seen that puller around the shop and didn't realize it was for drums, just knew it was for pulling something. Now to try and find it again. Grandpa built an incredible 2400 sqft shop but had no idea how to organize anything. He died in 01, but most of his tools are pretty much where he left them. I built my own work benches and use my own tools, mostly leaving his alone. It's been long enough now it's time to move on from it being a shrine to him and use the space I'm spoiled to have. thanks for the video, I haven't had the drums off since 2010 and wanted a reminder now that I've forgotten everything I used to know!

Great info. If you are replacing the drum BEWARE the regular Willys vendors sell the wrong drum. 941877 does not fit the center hub. Opening is too large needs to be 3 3/4" to fit the hub tight -not wobbling around and just the hub bolt stud holding it tight. Auto Zone has correct drum 8732 that fits tight. Also the front Warn lock hubs has a snap ring to remove to acess the spindle nuts.

Kaiser Willy’s has the correct drums 👍 they fit great! The fc uses Willys pickup drums of the same year

Is the process pretty much the same for the 9" brake systems on the older CJ2-A's?

Yes, the only real difference is he adjusters and how the shoes clip on.

Do you have anything that documents whether the long shoe goes forward or to the rear? I know its debated a lot! I was told early Jeeps with the bottom anchored has the long shoe towards the front.

That’s a controversial and highly debated topic. Google will find conflicting information for both side of the argument. I’ve installed them both ways over the years and have never noticed a difference in performance or wear. On this jeep I put them back on the same way they came off. The brakes work great! I know that doesn’t directly answer your question…but in my opinion there are bigger things in life to worry/argue about. But I always recommend everyone do their own research. Gain the knowledge you need to make a decision you feel comfortable with. Especially when dealing with safety relating items.

The repair book does tell you. It states as follows: 12.25x2x.212 Front shoe! 10.03x2x.212 Rear shoe!
