Awesome vid. Handy tip: MAKE SURE COUNT-IN IS SET TO OFF!!! Press [Shift] and then Pad 10. If you don't, the screens will not match what you're showing and it will say "Trigger with Input." It took me half an hour to figure out why mine didn't work like yours does. Hopefully it saves someone else some time.
Thank you so much for this tip! You are a legend. This helps out our News Group so much. We use the SP404 MK2 to create our own beats for our shows. My students just love this device!
Awsome❤❤please make a video about how to mix and master sp beats with rap vocals(how to export stems and how to add buss effects when you wana mix &master
Just spent my weekend trying to learn the SP404 and came to a block with resampling for the last hour with a training that was incomplete. You completed it with the last process. Appreciate you :)
What a convoluted process - thanks for sharing! I can actually see this being a super simple way of playing short beats / interludes during a live situation where I’m mixing other audio sources
I think this is what they call a "Signos". I've been trying to learn how to make my own music by creating beats... this is exactly what i needed. Thank you, kind sir! Love from PH. Ü
Dam bro! Thank goodness for you! I’m not sure I’d have figured that out without this video. I knew it had to be able to be done otherwise what’s the use of the step sequencer. Thank you so much! Literally just made this more than an fx box for me.
This was really useful, thanks! You did bring your whole studio on holiday? :) If i'm seeing it correctly, on the left a MPC Live (2)? Have fun and enjoy your holiday!
No I actually had a complete break from everything! I kinda wish I would have done a video out there now but at the same time it was nice to have some time to do other things :)
Not convoluted at all. excellent approach been watching you since you introduced the 404 got my unit back in October loving it was wondering if you could do a indepth video about the roll function.
Thanks for all the great videos! I not sure if you have allready covered the 'ptr change mode' in the 'generel settings' menu? It makes you able the choose between the current 'mkII mode' where sample tails are cut of at the end of the seq, and the 'sx mode' where the sample tails get to play till the end of the sample, which in my oppions makes a smoother transition between the patterns. Any way, keep up the good work 😁👍
Thanks for making this video. Is it possible to have another midi device like the Digitakt control the pattern chain while still recording the entire jam to a new sample on the SP-404 (with Digitakt as input source of the SP-404)? Also, wow, that was a lot of bugs you had to walk us through to understand how to do this. Why are they flashing pads in the wrong modes like that? I hope Roland is paying attention. Enjoy your vacation!
This would be great to be able to also select which samples resample to track it all out for a proper mixdown. You can do this with patterns, but not chains right?
Great videos Man! Thank you! Just a Quick question ... when im about to record the pattern it says on the screen "trigger with input" ... ( got the version 3.02) thank you again for your videos!
It should but I believe there is a bug with the MK2 at the moment which keeps adding dead space to the start of a resampled sample! Hopefully it gets fixed soon
This is an awesome video. Very clear and concise. Just got the MK2 and was following a Roland video on this and they did the exact same steps. I followed along and couldn't get it to do this. I came here and you have the same steps and I followed along as well. Mine says different things. After I push the hold button and select where my pattern chain is, it says 'wait' overlayed with 'Trigger with input'. I then push the sub pad and absolutely nothing happens. I factory reset it and tried this and get the same issues as well. I am also on firmware 3.02. Am I missing something? 🤔
@@spvidz OMG!!! I spent 4 hours digging around trying to figure this out and with a simple setting, this is the answer!!! Thank you so much!!!! You would think Roland would cover this information in their 'Beginner' video! Looking forward to more of your videos!
Another great video man thank you for sharing. The only thing that I don't get is that I have to resample the chain into a sample so then the im losing all my mix because the new sample is either in bus1,2,0 . If there is anybody that can clear this up for me it would be great 🙏
@@spvidz yeah mate on the latest software, for some reason have to hit the mfx button again as soon as it moves onto the next pattern in the chain, I guess I could just resample with the mfx on and use exchange so the resampled sample is in the same pad as the pattern but just seems a little long winded
@@spvidz thank-you for your response mate you're a true g, gonna reinstall it later and see what happens, think I messed about with some of the settings when I was first learning the machine so maybe its that, will keep you posted on the fix!
Older vid but hoping someone can help. When attempting to resample a pattern chain it wont let me select any pad on bank A and if i select a different bank to resample onto it then won't let me select the pad containing the pattern chain? Thanks for any information or ideas on what im missing 👍
I just found out you can do this quicker by "bouncing" down to a pad which does the same thing but not in real time as it plays. in Ptn select screen press [copy] then hold down [hold] to select the chain then select an empty audio pad to copy the pattern to and press [copy] then it will say working progress....
Yeah I think that came out in a later software release. This was filmed before that was possible but agreed its a lot better. I'm pretty sure I did a video about it somewhere but I can't find it!
I have a question regarding resampling, everytime I resample anything, there's a blank space in the starting point of the resampled sound that isn't supposed to be there, i.e. I resample a pattern (which is perfectly looping), but if I use the resampled sound in another pattern it wont fit as a perfect loop anymore, cause there's that blank space at the starting point. Idk if im explaining myself, but anyways, is it supposed to work that way? so everytime I resample a sound or pattern I need to re-adjust starting/ending points? its kinda frustrating when layering multiple efx thru resample method.
I have my samples blinking Purple when I select the pattern chain and everything but when click resample to select an pad for recording that you have flashing red when you selected 12, I do not have any flashing in red and they are all orange. I have all open banks except 4 that were for the samples in my pattern chain so I should have plenty of banks available. Any ideas?
Ever since the 4.04 update came out, Resampling pattern chains has become very difficult, is there any way to resample a pattern chain after the 4.04 update ?
This should be a great way to make loops but last time I tried this there was a gap in the beginning of the loop like it started recording slightly after the 1 beat. Have you noticed that?
when I press hold and select the chain, pads wont turn green and screen says trigger with input when selected, routing is set to mix . I followed step by step exactly as you did, can anyone help me figure out what im I doing wrong?
@@spvidz Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll do some research as well and follow up. Maybe you can do an SPVIDZ version of you bouncing the FX after if you get a chance. 💪🏾🙏🏾

The absolute one thing that Roland needs to fix is the navigation of files. I hate when searching for samples I exit a folder and have to scroll all the way down again to find the folder i was in. It’s super annoying.

For the benefit of anyone coming along later, the bug at 4:32 is fixed in v4.05 (maybe earlier, idk).
Excellent!!!!! very clear and useful!
can I use effects while the pattern chain is resampling? greetings from Mexico :)
Small correction at 2:24, you can have up to 16 chains per project, not per bank.
