    UPDATE! You can change the parameters on the fly. You need to press and HOLD the pad in question then you can change pretty much everything. The start point does get a bit glitchy and I've had a few pads just disappear when I'm changing that parameter, but velocity and pitch work well. Thanks to @Castel for pointing that out!

    Great video. I suspect PAD velocity means that it will respect the velocity that you used to enter the note if you have fixed velocity switched off. I also suspect LAST in hold will hold the sample until the last note in the pattern regardless of the number of bars you have selected. I haven't yet tried these theories out but I imagine that is how they would work. I will try over the weekend 😜👍🏼

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds about right. Unfortunately it doesn’t say what either mean in the manual yet. It doesn’t even mention the option from pad from what I could see but I think you are right in both counts 👍

    The step sequencer definitely makes me feel way more comfortable with the unit. Maybe a bit limited for now, notably we still lack note length, arp and note repeat input modes (though we have the sub-steps which is cool). For now it at least lets you easily initiate your beat with some sequenced drums.
    I hope Roland will continue on this path making of the SP404 a full sample-based groovebox rather than "a very good sampler with cool FX" that were the legacy SP202/303/404/A.
    The DJ mode is a very good idea but also needs refinements to become usable (like key lock mode and FX bus assignment to Channels rather than sample pads). Right now it is a bit frustrating to use I believe.

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I don’t find DJ mode that appealing although I’ve not spent much time with it. For live I would almost certainly still just have full tracks on pads and get creative with how I transition between tracks

      The step sequencer is what pushed me over the edge and got me to order one. I don't have the best rhythm, so this will really help. I have a PO-33 and it seems like this changes the workflow to be more like something I'm already familiar with.

    That's weird that shuffle/swing isn't working for you, it's working perfectly for me.
    It will only apply to samples on even numbered pads (because odd-numbered pads are the hits that are on the beat), and one thing I would say is that it is very extreme, you don't need to add a lot of shuffle for it to take effect. If you set it at +50 the hit on the off-beat will almost literally play on the next step. Even +25 I found ridiculously strong.
    Try (for example) +8, make sure you have some hits on the even numbered pads/steps, and you will hear the difference.
    P.S. you can't add shuffle to parts of patterns that are already recorded/programmed. On the one hand, this is annoying because if you like a pattern but want to add some shuffle/swing, you have to enter everything again. But the advantage of Roland implementing it that way is that you can have different samples at different swing strengths in the same pattern (or even the same sample but on different steps) which is pretty mind-blowing - that kind of programming is usually reserved for Elektron machines!

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmm ok I will try that again. Maybe I overcooked it a little 👍

    • @rorz999
      @rorz999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Ayxzak yeah, hopefully. On other machines I'd tend to dial in swing afterwards while a pattern is playing, you don't really know how much is enough until you turn the knob so that it sounds just right. So having to do it via trial and error is a bit cumbersome
