I really need to get in the habit of using patterns more often… I mostly just been using the skip back feature for nearly everything I do, but I can definitely see some advantages though especially with the last tip you shared!
I forced myself to use it after moving from the 404sx as this solved a lot of pain points. I get making things with other methods though! Thats the fun of the SP. There are so many ways to make beats with it!
The subpad tip was huge for me. I like to have little parts that aren’t always evenly barred, so being able to trigger the next pattern lets me get those hard drops.
Thanks for the great summary video! One functionality that would be very useful but currently missing (please correct me if I'm wrong!) is the merging of two patterns into a new one. Combined with the copy function for individual samples this would open up a lot of interesting possibilities...
Your videos have been super useful for me! I'll always love my SP-404MK2, but recently bought the MPC Key 37...all these multi-key commands wore me down, and the MPC is more of what I'd hoped the SP-404MK2 would be...a DAW in a box. Be well!
Kia Ora Spvidz - Many thanks for posting all your SP404mk2 content. Your channel has made my move from the Roland SP808Emix to the SP404Mk2 allot easier. I laugh at working on the 808 with it's Zip disk tech. The drive hummed a treat. It is what it is but moving from 250mb to 16/32gb with a pc/Mac interface is a game changer. . . As you might have guessed I do live under a log most of the time. . . . . . If you would not mind me picking at your brain for a minute. . . is there a way to cue samples without them playing out of the line out jacks? On the 808 you have head phones level and a master volume. I do understand there is a DJ mode but I have not looked into that effect. Yeah maybe I am missing something. The other bit that is in the back of my grey matter is that I cannot find a super simply way of running out of the 404 to an external effects box and then back into the 404 to capture the sample (404) with the wet effect (external effect). I suppose in my little brain there should be a way to turn the input out/in into an effects loop send/return. Apologies if you have covered this in the past. . Arohanui for all your content and time e hoa. Rangimārie, J.
I can imagine that was a huge game changer! As far as I am aware, you cannot simultaneously play out of and receive audio into the SP without it causing the continuous loop feedback problem. I would have to look into it properly to confirm though.
@@spvidz Last night I hooked up a Red Panda Tensor to the unit. I could only hear about 1 or 2 seconds of the wet signal after the sample played in the sp. The tensor can rec/loop so the pedal could work but not in an ideal way. I wonder if Roland are looking into this. Do you have their ear? If so that would be another great improvement to the unit. The 808's effects are so impressive. Even now as my unit has a bung Zip drive I hang onto it for all of the effects. The two synth engines well worth it. Regardless heaps of gratitude in this space for your mahi. Mā tē wā, J.
Great tips!!! I keep thinking I truly know this device and then I learn more.

Nice yeah, it can be tricky getting the timing right, thats the only downside!

I love the copy, remain trick. This will definitely help my workflow with variations. Great video!
Thats huge for pattern area. That changed the game for me when they introduced it!
Thanks for the great summary video!

Cool video, can you make a video about the TR-Mode?
Good thinking! I'll do some research into it
Thanks gangggggg
No problem 🙏
Money as usual. I may just finally blow the dust off my SP and give it another go.
Do it!
For the workflow do you need to delete or can you just copy over the version with errors?
You can't copy over another pattern, it won't let you choose it when you hit COPY because it already has a pattern on it
Don’t you just hit shift and metronome to turn it off?
You can do it that way too if you wanted yeah, both work 👍
