  • This is the point at which the run becomes much harder.
The start of a conversation (whether by using Converse or conversations due to the story while progressing through the chapter) seems to advance the RN by exactly one, so that's another way to advance the RNs mid-chapter without using mid-chapter saves. I haven't tried to see whether RNs advance if you just sit in a conversation for a while. I believe in other FE games eyeblinking in conversations advances the RN, but I don't think that's FE10. You can also advance the RN by having someone go on a hidden treasure tile, but I didn't need to do that this time around.
A lot of this strategy actually comes down to one weird AI quirk with these laguz: even if they can kill ORKO a unit and make the player get a game over (ex. Micaiah), they seem to choose to advance the least possible distance, even if that means suiciding on someone like Beastfoe Jill. A few of the crits and misses here are unnecessary and if I had played differently I still would've been able to get a 6 turn.
Without transfers, I think Jill would need a Seraph Robe (one from 1-4 and the other 2 would have to go to Ike for 4-E-2 I believe) and Zihark would need to hit level 10 in time to promote with a Master Crown. Inb4 dondon does that in his playthrough.
Expenditures: 2 Torch, 1 Physic, 1 Beast Killer, 1 Wind Edge, sold 1 Ashera Icon. 3282 coins left. Jill used a Dracoshield to survive attacks from 3 cats or 1 cat and 1 tiger, making the clear far more reliable. This is the only Dracoshield I have this whole playthrough, and normally, you'd think Ike needs it for 4-E-2. But I have a (semi-reliable) 2 turn strategy of that and should be fine.
Skill distribution: Renewal + Cancel Sothe, Vantage+Adept Zihark, Wrath Volug

Damn this is actually super good. I didn't go for the 6-turn because I saved defensive resources for Ike instead of committing them to Jill.
I'm skeptical if I would do this even with relocating Ike's defensive boosters though. For one, the parts at 3:59 and 8:23 (and maybe turn 1 EP) wouldn't be survivable for vanilla Jill with 1 Seraph Robe and 1 Dracoshield (her bulk is 33 HP and 17 def). So she could get the 2nd Seraph Robe, but since that one costs a turn in 1-4 to get without having to rig some low% shenanigans, it ends up being a wash. The other problem is that vanilla Jill has 6 less hit and so she has to hit double-65s against cats, double-75s against tigers, and a double-54 on Lethe, on top of other crits, dodges, or stat rolls that need to go right for everyone else. There's a few other differences like vanilla Sothe getting 2-shot by tigers whereas transfers Sothe actually survives most combinations of 2 tigers.
In summary, I didn't expect transfers Jill to be able to reach the stats needed to pull this off, so that was really cool. But I don't think that vanilla Jill can do a 6-turn, both because she doesn't have the bulk to survive cat + tiger combos without the 1-4 Seraph Robe, and because the chance of her hitting just the 6 enemies on turn 1, 2, and 4 enemy phases is less than 9%. But we can discuss this further if you'd like.
On the weird laguz AI: Some of the enemies in this map are programmed to only move and attack targets within half of their movement range.

dysenteryMD/MartyTheDemonSlayer told me a while back (in 2020) that you 6-turned 3-6 in your 0% so that's what I aimed for. I guess he got it wrong lol, but I might've settled for a 7 turn if not for that.
It's definitely possible without transfers Jill but it's a question of whether you're comfortable with that level of reliability or not. To be honest, I think no matter what you do, 3-6 is an inherently risky map. Even if you went for a 7 turn I'd be really surprised if your strat was reliable--not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. Btw this strat doesn't need to be followed completely and you don't need to kill Lethe. This is just what worked out for me this time. I actually cleared 3-6 once without killing Mordecai but then I realized I put Imbue on Sothe, which would be cheating in this run. Whoops. Had to redo it.
This also depends on your 4-E-2 strats and whether Ike needs that extra bulk, so wait till I post 4-E-2, hopefully soon. I'm at 3-12 now.
Yep, always happy to discuss further. I think you'd be more interested in my use of Boyd actually. You could probably pull off my 3-turns of 3-8 and 3-10 without transfers as well, though it might need more rigging.

So funny story about that, I misremembered and I actually 8-turned 3-6 during my first run through a long time ago LOL. But by then I had already misreported 6 turns and the cat was out of the bag. Whoops, but I'm glad that you ended up getting this 6-turn on video after being spurred by that wrong information.
My 3-6 strat is actually pretty reliable outside of some turn 1 shenanigans and an enemy stat roll. So do you think that vanilla Jill can do it with only 1 Seraph Robe and 1 Dracoshield? Her being able to survive tiger + cat seems pretty non-negotiable since the main problem that needs to be solved is killing the enemies in the north part of the swamp, and getting only 1 kill per EP turn doesn't seem like it'll cut it.
The 3-8 3-turn with Boyd was especially nice. For 3-10 I found an unorthodox way to 3-turn it; it's very unlike how anyone's done the map before. I'm sure you'll appreciate it!

Oh damn, a 3-turn of 3-10 without Boyd, can't wait. I guess you could use Resolve Haar or something and Celerity Titania.
Yes, you're left with 1 enemy at the end of turn 6 (the one that was about to kill Zihark if you look at the end of the vid). So if Zihark gets an extra kill you don't need to kill one of Lethe or Mordecai. My job was actually harder because my Lethe and Mordecai had transfers so it might be easier for you. My Jill was a little bit less aggressive in my original attempt of 3-6 and I still got 6 turns. Your third tier Zihark is also better than mine which made things more difficult for me. I unequipped Adept which was definitely a mistake, but I started the run 4 entire years ago. Not looking forward to 3-12.
That said, my transfers Sothe made a big difference and I'm not sure how you would fare without him.

I think it's interesting how this shows that Jill's power in 3-6 comes entirely from bulk boosters, the beastfoe scroll and flight but not from her actual stats. It's something I figured was true for a long time but this is an interesting confirmation.
Something I'm wondering though, would Promoting Zihark here have been a better gameplan, you can actually almost do it with 2 turning 1-8, though it's pretty hard, if you 3 turn 1-8 the EXP is a heck of a lot better and it's pretty easy overall. Worth noting that even if Zihark isn't quite level 10 at the time you can promote in the middle of 3-6 and you get a full heal from the master crown promotion. though in your case it would be hard to do so before like turn 5, maybe you could do it on turn 2 with a lot of EXP optimization.

I think dondon keeps Paragon with the DBs to promote Zihark, which I didn't want to risk since I need Haar promoted by 3-8. But if there's enough bexp to promote Haar without Paragon by 3-8 yeah, definitely. I'd assume there is.
"I think it's interesting how this shows that Jill's power in 3-6 comes entirely from bulk boosters, the beastfoe scroll and flight but not from her actual stats"
That's like discrediting bread because its texture comes from gluten and flour. ??? "Bread's texture comes from flour and the gluten in the flour but not from its actual constitution" Similarly, you can't just discredit the context Jill is in. It's asinine not to use the resources given to you in the best possible way.
Now for the purposes of tiering it's a separate debate if optimal distribution of resources should be assumed or not. But it's reasonable to think that Jill is a really great unit once given resources.
