Yeah this Game along with "Another century Episode" Series was peak Mecha Fan service. I don't recall what happenned between Bandai Namco and From Software as we never got a sequal to close out the remaining Chapters of Unicorn. Maybe development of "Demon souls" curtailed that. They instead went with BBstudios for their future Gundam releases as they already had the battle operation series and Battlefield Record Engine. It's with hope or cope that From revist the Gundam universe cos this was definitely peak Gundam which after looking at AC6 woulda been excellent with a PVP mode or Co-op Mode. Funnily enough Gundam MODs have appeared on PC versions of AC6
This wasn't even the first time FromSoft had made a game with Gundam in it. Another Century's Episode was a series that played just like this, only it was a crossover of a bunch of mecha franchise, including Macross/Robotech, Nadesico, Dragonar, SPT Layzner, Eureka Seven, Code Geass, and a bunch of different Gundam series.
They also made Another Century Episode series which was a mashup of multiple mech anime, kinda sad it died with ACE R, and possibly no hope to get localized due to being a licensing nightmare(especially Macross/Robotech thing). Gundam series is under Bandai Namco and From mostly get published by Bandai Namco, it's really stupid how they don't let them make another gundam game instead of another mobile gacha thing. They're shooting themselves in the foot. Heck just revive the Gundam Breaker series but with Armored Core depth.
I am currently playing through Brave Saga (a Japan-only spin-off of the Super Robot Wars series which itself is almost exclusively Japan-only) and the only English I've come across so far is "Save Game/Load Game" my brother in Christ, if it has giant robots I will overcome the language barrier to play it 😂
If you liked Unicorn you will love Another Century Episode R. It combines different mechs and characters from different shows (from Macross to Gundam, Full Metal Panic, Aquarion, etc) and it plays great. More importantly is that the nailed the feel and specifics of each mech meaning that you will have all the play style of using a each distinct mech, all the accurate weapons for each, and any transformation abilities between them if they have it. And it was also developed by From Software.
I bought the Collectors Edition of this at a game expo last summer and I haven't really put a whole lot of time into it since I got it. There are the other ones on the PS3 I look forward to your input when you get to them.
You would be surprised. They also made several Crossover Mecha Action games. Another Century's Episode series (partnering with Banpresto). The action counterpart to Super Robot Wars by Banpresto.
Remember when the game came out, I was SO excited for it to come west side... cause the game play looked like everything I could ever want in a gundam game! only it never game state side and was majorly disappointed and getting one from overseas was a pain in the ass...
I'm surprised there wasn't a reference to Armored Core in the video, considering how From Software was more known for those games than what people are now most familiar with them for.
I have a ligit question!! Does this game have a translation to English pack yet? Like can I mod my PS2 to have this readable in English or has no one done that for this game yet!?
Nope, not that I'm aware of. Some folks have mentioned being able to use google to translate screens to make some things, like settings menus, more accessible. I hope some day that someone does this though!
This Gundam unicorn gameplay actually similar with "Another Century Episode", another mecha game that fromsoft made beside armored core They keep polish it until this smooth in Gundam Unicorn
Fromsoft didnt just make armored core and gundam games. They also were responsible for the ACE series which was basically a mega crossover of a lot of major anime mecha franchises. Think super robot wars if it was an action game rather than a tactical rpg.
The real question is, why ONLY ONE Gundam game? They even make a crossover mecha game called Another Centiry Episode, a full flesh series, but only one Gundam game, weird.
Great video. This game looks amazing. I've yet to play a Gundam game but I've always wanted to. I look forward to hoppin on this game soon. Thanx for the upload, Bruh!
The one I have on my old PS3 CHECHA model which isn't region locked is the Another Century's Episode R. It's a collection of mecha games come together in a single plot to return to defeat a mysterious enemy and return to their separate worlds. Practically half the mecha are Gundam. The sheer amount of mecha and pilots there were an insane amount to level. There was one problem: because the JP Store was unavailable to me, there was a bug that made a specific mission's cutscenes completely unskippable, which were very long and intersected with EVERY storyline. The fix was on the JP servers I just couldn't install it. It's still a fun title if you can figure your way around it.
So, Breaker 3 Break Edition next? I feel like it's a surprisingly easily accessible game even without english dubbing thanks to everything being subtitled. Also worth mentioning that From has a long history with the Gundam franchise thanks to games like Another Century's Episode.
I wonder how much of Armored Core's (FromSoft's own in-house mecha IP, for those unaware) DNA there is in this title. Interesting that this exists alongside that series.
Never seen or heard of this channel before. But NOW subscribed! Looking forward solid content like this. I've got plenty to watch through in the meantime.
When I was younger my uncle (who kept insisting that I learn French & other languages )would come over on holidays claiming to have some rare version of a classic game complete with booth leg cover art. And when he was setting it up he would purposely change the in game language 😅. It worked so well that my brother & I were forced to adapt to the game language even going as far as renting French language books from the library so we could understand the words. Back in 2002 MGS was the turning point for me. Because that game wasn’t translated properly but we were so invested in the game that after school I ask my teachers about words and phrases. Not knowing I was actively learning the language in full force. Then one day (I’m not sure when it happened) but it just clicked. I started reading the French version of everything first before reading the English.
I think you should have mentioned that it's the first 3 episodes of the OVA series of Gundam Unicorn which was 7 episodes long. A TV version was released a couple of years after it ended which divided the OVA into 22 episodes with some added scenes.
Feels a bit like the Gundam Dynasty Warriors games with those melee clashes, except Dynasty Warriors is pulled down by Earth's gravity, even when the stage is in space. Another Gundam game this reminds me of is Gundam Battle Universe from PSP. Set in UC, from Amuro's time all the way to F91, but no Unicorn because it was released before Unicorn. It's an awesome game with lots of replay value as you can choose any suits you unlocked for any scenario, unless incompatible with terrain. There's also a bunch of endgame stages where you're fighting all Gundams in the game. It starts easy, but you need to be careful because the last ones will screw you if you're facing them already battered; S, Ex-S, 4 types of Nu, Xi and Penelope together, and then F91. Also, when playing through games with Japanese menus, I sometimes use Google Translate App's camera mode. It's tedious and far from accurate, but it helps with simple words.
This is like the spiritual successor to journey to jaburo for ps2. It even has the team building idea from Zeonic front. I just wish Battle ops 2 was this visually appealing.
I've noticed that some of the animations were directly lifted from this game and used in Armored Core 6. It's not surprising that FromSoft would reuse their assets such as animations or weapons, but I'm surprised how seamless these animations work in completely different games and still look as satistfying as they are.
It's criminal that Bandai isn't commissioning more Gundam games by FromSoft. From has Armored Core, but what I want is a game with the story of Gundam, the Gameplay of Armored Core 4, and the customization of Gundam Breaker.
If you count Another Century's Episode (which contain a lot of different anime mecha including gundams) they've been totally killing it for a long time. I highly recommend atleast the first 3 Another Century's Episode games to anyone who loves being an OP mecha protagonist....especially 3! Surprisingly Another Century's Episode 3 was released on the PS2 some months after Armored Core 4 released for the PS3. You may find somethings looking familiar if you play them both.
I would like to try this, but honestly your one complaint about it might be what keeps me from doing so LOL; it's not even a matter of only being half of the story and wanting more in my case as it is knowing what mechs show up in that latter half of the series... fighting that one Zeon remnant dragon mech I can't remember the name of would be sick but fighting or more ideally using the Delta Plus and Rozen Zulu along with the two best iterations of the Unicorn Gundam in the Banshee (both forms are equally valid in my opinion) and particularly the Full Armour Unicorn Gundam would be absolutely euphoric level fun XD
When this game came out I think Fromsoftware had made at least 13 Armored Core games including spin offs so I think it’s safe to say they were experienced with the mecha genre
I can just imagine how good the Kshatriya missions are. That MS is such a beast and it sucks that the western release games that treat it right are rare
I've been meaning to play this one. It honestly looks incredible and as a fan of armored core (who never touched other FromSoft games) I expect this to be high quality, so I am definitely going to try it out soon. If there's one thing that really solidified this to me though as a from soft game made with care is a bit silly; the beam swords in this game actually bend like they do in the animations! They always tend to put realistic details into their games, and U.C. has shown multiple times that (unless the plot calls for it or theres a animation error) beam sabers are a liquid due to it being just a jet of energy; so it's nice to see from soft considered this, That alone tells me enough on how much care the devs put into this.
HA! Fromsoft also did a series of mecha games called A.C.E (Another Centuries Episode). I think there’s 4 games. It’s a "WHAT IF" scenario, of what if they put just about every mecha universe into one game.
I remember getting the limited edition of this game when it came out hope they do a remaster of it and continue the story and give us the remaster of another century's games and give us a new game
Bamco should make a 3rd person action game based on the Super Robot Wars OG ip, with Banpresto taking care of the art direction/writing and From Software taking care of the gameplay.
Oh man, this has elements of both 0081 on PS3 and even Pilots Locus from Gamecube. I had meant to pick up up long ago, but now I'm going to actively hunt this down.
this game gameplay looks like another century episode series. specially ace 3 the final. i love when its in space map, our gundam can rotate 360 degree and upside down. nice game
This isn't the only Gundam game they've made. Fromsoft has made several, and all of them are not just very different from one another, but very good in their own regard.
We need a Gundam game like this, with a pilot character creator, semi open world, so you can explore locations with your character like space stations, various colonies, jungles, etc as well as upgrades and customizations for Mobile Suits.... Imagine a Mobile Suit engineering mode with parts from every Mobile suit in Gundam history so you can design your own iconic suit?!
Dude, you just reminded me about my epic PS3 collection of Gundam/mech games! I've been dying to jump into one of them. Time to fire up Twitch and blast some giant robots !
It’s shocking that From Software make Gundam Games! I grew up in the 1990s & it’s surprising of the different Medias that one doesn’t know about coming out of Japan before the advent of the Internet! All I knew was Armored Core from From Software! This is incredible!
Unicorn is a bit weird for me. I'd forgotten I'd watched it until it came up in another video. All I can remember is a bit of the first episode, and that everything was resolved with magic or something at the end. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the show, I watched the whole thing after all, but I completely failed to carve out a spot in my memory. I didn't even remember that Fat Char was in it until he came up in this video. Nor did I remember that Fat Char was called "Full Frontal."
This game and Another Century Episode 3 : The Final in PS2 era are the best single player game that can capture the atmosphere of gundam or other mecha universe

This isn’t their first rodeo. They made games called A.C.E (another century episode) which is kinda liek super robot wars on various mecha franchises in one.
The only flaw this game have its not the language barrier but for using exclusive Unicorn Timeline only, there plenty great Gundam timeline they can adopt and they choose Unicorn? The OVA who only Gundam hardcore understand it.
its likely a licensing deal certain companies have exclusive rights to gundam content in the USA... kinda like how the beer modello is owned by anheiser busch abroad... but because of monopoly laws they are independent inside the USA.

Another Century's Episode was a series that played just like this, only it was a crossover of a bunch of mecha franchise, including Macross/Robotech, Nadesico, Dragonar, SPT Layzner, Eureka Seven, Code Geass, and a bunch of different Gundam series.
Well they did the Another Century series after all
They also made Another Century Episode series which was a mashup of multiple mech anime, kinda sad it died with ACE R, and possibly no hope to get localized due to being a licensing nightmare(especially Macross/Robotech thing).
And the cherry on top is Armored Core 6 "copied" Gundam VS mechanics like fast-charging on the ground and melee cancel boost (from Extreme VS)
@@iMoevious I kinda thought melee cancelling into boost was already in Another Century Episode 3
@@hrgaming4plebs570 well, i forgor about that one i guess 💀
@@iMoevious yeah never being localized makes it forgettable
I am currently playing through Brave Saga (a Japan-only spin-off of the Super Robot Wars series which itself is almost exclusively Japan-only) and the only English I've come across so far is "Save Game/Load Game" my brother in Christ, if it has giant robots I will overcome the language barrier to play it 😂
LOBE the Gundam unicorn! Great story AND music!! Gonna did this one out, thx!
Man. This looks incredible! I have to try this out now.
I'm listening to this while painting a Sinanju MG.
It is good to know about this game, I guess I'll emulate it in the future.
THE ELDEN RING PEOPLE?!
Nani the faku?
You made Michael Zaku sad
I'm surprised there wasn't a reference to Armored Core in the video, considering how From Software was more known for those games than what people are now most familiar with them for.
I have a ligit question!! Does this game have a translation to English pack yet? Like can I mod my PS2 to have this readable in English or has no one done that for this game yet!?
Nope, not that I'm aware of.
Some folks have mentioned being able to use google to translate screens to make some things, like settings menus, more accessible.
I hope some day that someone does this though!
@@JarboeGaming Damn...I was a split second to buying this. For the price, I just can't spend it without experiencing everything
This Gundam unicorn gameplay actually similar with "Another Century Episode", another mecha game that fromsoft made beside armored core
They keep polish it until this smooth in Gundam Unicorn
Fromsoft didnt just make armored core and gundam games. They also were responsible for the ACE series which was basically a mega crossover of a lot of major anime mecha franchises. Think super robot wars if it was an action game rather than a tactical rpg.
The real question is, why ONLY ONE Gundam game? They even make a crossover mecha game called Another Centiry Episode, a full flesh series, but only one Gundam game, weird.
That sword clash should return in AC6 damn. looks cool.
0:30 this ain't no PS3 fam
@@MstreEnsin No, no it isn't lol
Great video. This game looks amazing. I've yet to play a Gundam game but I've always wanted to. I look forward to hoppin on this game soon. Thanx for the upload, Bruh!
Correction, From Soft made Gundam Game with super Robots Isekai theme in ACE Another Century Episode
breaking news: creators of 16 masterpiece mecha games makes another mecha game and it's good.
Not much, but this game is basically built on their another mecha series "Another Century's Episode"
Close to none. It's like DMC versus Call of Duty. Both games have guns and melee attacks but very different approaches to gameplay.
FROMSOFT NEEDS TO MAKE ANOTHER MODERN GEN GUNDAM GAME THIS LOOKS SOOOO GOOD
Try Armored Core 6. It's fantastic.
Never seen or heard of this channel before. But NOW subscribed! Looking forward solid content like this. I've got plenty to watch through in the meantime.
Appreciate it! ❤️
Yeah I definitely should have, just pinned a comment to clarify, thanks!
We need a AAA Gundam game
Doesn't FromSoft make the Armored Core games?
Yeah so no wonder they nailed it.
Yes they do.
You mean the Armored Core people
Feels a bit like the Gundam Dynasty Warriors games with those melee clashes, except Dynasty Warriors is pulled down by Earth's gravity, even when the stage is in space.
That beam magnum sound effect sounds VERY similar to Omega Boost missiles firing.
I remember this game. I bought it off Amazon and had a blast playing it despite not understanding anything.
Unicorn is my favorite series, absolutely it's a mainstay on my radar.
It's criminal that Bandai isn't commissioning more Gundam games by FromSoft. From has Armored Core, but what I want is a game with the story of Gundam, the Gameplay of Armored Core 4, and the customization of Gundam Breaker.
Gameplay reminds me of the mecha crossover game series that Fromsoftware made called A.C.E (Another Century Episode)
I did an image search for the Char stand in and wasn't disappointed.
This is exactly how I played my fave gundam games back in 2010 on modded psp, battle universe
Had no idea what’s being said but menu was easy to figure out I still have them memorized
Holy the gameplay look so good
I would like to try this, but honestly your one complaint about it might be what keeps me from doing so LOL; it's not even a matter of only being half of the story and wanting more in my case as it is knowing what mechs show up in that latter half of the series... fighting that one Zeon remnant dragon mech I can't remember the name of would be sick but fighting or more ideally using the Delta Plus and Rozen Zulu along with the two best iterations of the Unicorn Gundam in the Banshee (both forms are equally valid in my opinion) and particularly the Full Armour Unicorn Gundam would be absolutely euphoric level fun XD
Now try the Another Century's Episode games.
I still yearn the day of a Another Century Episode remake/remaster
If you forgot, FromSoftware also made Another Century series. Before Soul and Elden Ring, FromSoftware made mecha games.
When this game came out I think Fromsoftware had made at least 13 Armored Core games including spin offs so I think it’s safe to say they were experienced with the mecha genre
I had to listen to the soundtrack again
Still gives me goosebumps
I might have to give this a go. I'm excited for Gundam Breaker 4 that just got announced, but all I really want is a new Dynasty Warriors Gundam game.
It seems you haven't reviewed any of the Another Century's Episodes yet... I believe you will be quite surprised
If i were able to play this game, i will absolutely spam the Beam Magnum just to hear that sweet sound of it firing
Custome mode sounds like the versus mode from “Encounters in Space”. Sounds like a great game. So many good games never got ported over.
Look up "Another Century's Episode" Gundam games. They had Ps2 & PS3 versions. Those were Japanese gems right there I wish came to the US.
Yeah some sort of Gundam RPG like this would be a dream game!
Nor did I remember that Fat Char was called "Full Frontal."
one problem is with cast mode having branching missions and without japanese you dont know what to do to branch it in the other way..
Did you know about CHROMEHOUNDS, the Mech Warrior like game also made by the Elden Ring guys?
They have this habit of keeping good Gundam games in Japan and sending over pure trash instead then think that Gundam isn't well-seen in the West.
Gundam vs Zeta Gundam was another banger for the PS2 that never got translated, as was Battlefield Record UC 0081 for PS3
This game and Another Century Episode 3 : The Final in PS2 era are the best single player game that can capture the atmosphere of gundam or other mecha universe
No mention of From Software's "little known" mecha series Armored Core in the video. Would have been an apt comparison.
considering they did armored core 6 and it was a banger I would really love it if they made a new Gundam game
Fucking WHAAAT? I thought this was gunna be a video makin a joke about Armored Core 6, but From ACTUALLY made a Gundam game? AND IT ISN'T AVAILABLE IN THE WEST!? What is happening here?
Edit: yup. I am butthurt. This looks amazing! I want it...... sadge.
I am slowly falling in love with the ReZel mobile suits. They are just so damn cool, even if mass produced. The ReZel defensor a-type or wtf-ever it is just looks so damn awesome.
This isn’t their first rodeo. They made games called A.C.E (another century episode) which is kinda liek super robot wars on various mecha franchises in one.
They started their career making gundam games awesome that they brought it back
The only flaw this game have its not the language barrier but for using exclusive Unicorn Timeline only, there plenty great Gundam timeline they can adopt and they choose Unicorn? The OVA who only Gundam hardcore understand it.
This game was the only way i knew how to watch some of the unicorn series without relying on renting each episode on xbox live.
Or armored core. I honestly wish gundam unicorn was released in the west, its one of my favorite gundams
its likely a licensing deal certain companies have exclusive rights to gundam content in the USA... kinda like how the beer modello is owned by anheiser busch abroad... but because of monopoly laws they are independent inside the USA.
You gotta know from software made the armored core games which in it of themselves is peak mecha action.
I wish we had more Gundam games like Battlefield Record and this. Mission based shooters, now it's just Battle Operation 2 and VS series.
