"You Won't Get Hitler." - Inglourious Basterds (2009) #shorts #inglouriousbasterds #movie
Inglourious Basterds is a 2009 war film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, starring Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger, Daniel Brühl, Til Schweiger and Mélanie Laurent. The film tells an alternate history story of two plots to assassinate Nazi Germany's leadership-one planned by Shosanna Dreyfus, a young French Jewish cinema proprietor, and the other planned by the British but ultimately conducted solely by a team of Jewish American soldiers led by First Lieutenant Aldo Raine. Christoph Waltz co-stars as Hans Landa, an SS colonel in charge of tracking down Raine's group. The title was inspired by Italian director Enzo G. Castellari's 1978 Euro War film The Inglorious Bastards, though Tarantino's film is not a remake of it.

The writer forgot about Himler, that lunatic was responsible for so many atrocities, that if they killed the other 4 he would have taken power. He was so crazy that things may have been much worse

Nice Pun. ;)
Well... sorta.
He had Christoph in mind all along. The "almost canned" part was that Christoph wouldn't agree to do the part and Tarentino couldn't find anyone else so well qualified. So I've read.
Not forget Italian 😅😊
Actually, he couldn’t make this film after years. I I do remember correctly, he had the idea for this film after Jackie Brown, but couldn’t find a good actor, plus, cinema was only barely starting to improve and evolve, so like Cameron with Avatar “he waited”. And it was worth it.

It’s incredible how evil waltz is in this movie lol. He’s evil as fuck and he pretty much wins. He succeeded in everything he set out to do, the only reason we feel satisfied with the ending for him specifically is the swastika being carved into his face. But if that didn’t happen he just would’ve won. He would’ve been evil as fuck and gotten away with it. Great villain.
he still succeeded in his plan. he will be able to take asylum in the US as per agreement with the US government. he can even sue and sked for reprimand from the government for their people action that disfigure his face. sure its satisfy that he will have to live with the Nazi mark in his face and that might make his life a bit difficult, but in the end of the day, he get what he wanted
That’s only in the version where that happens. The other version ending is literally everyone dies including Aldo. There are 2 or 3 endings I think.
I find what happens to Landa to be quite a compelling loss: he assumes a level playing field, that all enemies as competent as him must be playing the same "game".
In the end though the Americans are not as obedient (one might say "loyal," or better yet cowardly) towards their superiors, and the Basterds, even Aldo, much more likely to risk themselves to make things as miserable as possible for just one more Nazi. Because it *is* personal.
@@Phillisophical yeah, but other "endings" might as well be fantasy, cuz they don't exist in the movie.
…a swastika carved in one’s face is not nothing tho…
Himmler: “am I a joke to you?”
Himmler was entering in separate peace negotiations on his own (historically - quite a bit later though), so his death was not required for the end of war. For the fictional universe of Tarantino, we can assume that Landa was very well informed about Himmler's traitorous nature and in fact - wanted to act quicker so that he, and not Himmler, would be credited for ending the war.
Himmler and Bormann were useless
@@artursruseckis4242 That's partially correct. There were some in the British government who would have accepted Himmler's peace but that was before two events, the Potsdam Conference and Pearl Harbor, where the allies agreed to accept only a full unconditional surrender from Germany and when Germany declared war on the United States. Goring and Himmler both tried to negotiate a peace but this was in violation of the agreement made at Potsdam with Stalin and the Allies. Himmler was still the Reichmarshal and officially successor to Hitler, he wasn't discovered and removed from the position by Hitler until late April 1945, and his secret peace talks were not going on in June 1944. Even the July plot was meant to only happen if Col. Von Staufenberg could kill Hitler and Himmler both at the Wolf's Lair.
Himmler absolutely needed to die.
An SS officer would see Himmler taking power in the absence of Hitler and his loyalists as a good thing, and so wouldn't likely want to draw attention to it. Essentially, for Landa, this whole operation is a win-win situation. Either the Americans succeed in their plan, in which case Himmler takes over and sets Germany on what he sees as the right path, or he stops them and is lauded as a hero. Either way, he's better off
Bormann was a gatekeeper, not a decision maker.
Himmler was in charge of the extermination camps, therefore should have been in the 4 mentioned names instead of Bormann.
Actually events demonstrated that only Hitler needed to be dead for the war to end.
Pitt acts like he is in a cartoon whereas Waltz acts as if he is in a movie...
Cristoph Waltz is a classical actor. He becomes the character, through and through. Brad Pitt is Hollywood
What a masterful actor. Waltz is just phenomenal.
This is what I expected/hoped we'd get from him in Spectre. But sadly they gave him nothing to work with
That's the damn truth
Christoph’s voice is ASMR

Waltz was incredible in this role. He thoroughly deserved his Oscar.
Christoph waltz will always be underrated, no matter how much recognition he gets.
One of the definitions of 'acting perfection'... Waltz OWNS this movie. 👌🏻
“And you need all four to end the war.”
“Is that a quest?”
“No, that is a test..”
I don't think enough people appreciate the line of "Your mission, some would call a terrorist plot, is still a "go"".

Talk about “Bargaining from a position of power”. Man knows he’s got all the power (for the moment) and he delights in it.
This man is a real actor.
hes just that, an actor
I struggle to think of a more likable villain than this guy. You have to keep reminding yourself that he’s a complete monster 😂
Nah, the intro sets up his character nicely. He portrays politeness in a sickly sweet manner until he drops all pretense and dryly accuses the farmer of sheltering Jews. Not only this switch, but also the way in which he betrays his own cause in what he considered to be a full proof plan shows his true colors. Landa truly considers himself a polished gentleman, an elite that is without reproach. All the while, he's a Nazi who prides himself in the ability to hunt and kill his fellow man. The man is a psychopath.
@@somecallmejorge2462fr, idk how people can think hes "likable", hes polite and courteous sure, but hes a FUCKIN NAZI! absolutely ridiculous how people praise fuckin nazis in pretty much any media portraying them.
I wouldn't call him "likeable" at all - it's an excellent performance by Waltz but if you can empathize with his victims you can see how cruel the character actually is, and what his politeness is hiding.
Dude is literally wearing a Nazi uniform wdym you need a reminder?
Love the little “some would call it a terrorist plot” out the side of his mouth 😂 what a fantastic actor.
The only reason I'm replying to this is because i can't find the place to t an original comment. Brad Pitt is not a great actor, he is mediocre at best, Christof Waltz is the far superior actor, and Pitt's accent or whatever it is is laughable.

@@sabotabby3372I mean, he can't wear it all the time right? At some point he has to take it off
Unironically the entire plan is made like a plot a d&d group would make
I always thought it strange that Himmler was completely left out of this entire plot.
Himmler was the "crazy guy"...tolerated, but now where near respected enough to carry the war if the others died.
Himmler had no real legislative power over the war itself, only the handling of foreign territories, which Germany was rapidly losing at this point. Himmler was extremely powerful, but only because all POWs and subjugated peoples were under his jurisdiction. He had very little effect on the politics of Nazi Germany or the war effort, while Hitler, Goebbels, Goring and Bormann did. Also, Himmler was a front commander at this point, having been appointed due to Hitler's lack of faith in his generals. So Himmler was commanding forces like any other officer at this point. He could be captured/forced to surrender through military means.
Himmler wanted to overthrow Hitler and install the SS as the sole government authority in Germany. Both of which are things that Landa would see as good things, and likely wouldn't want to risk giving anyone any ideas about removing him as well
He was too busy trying to contact Hyperborean demons in Ahnenerbe blood rituals to help bomb the Soviet front
It can’t be stated enough how *fucking* good of an actor Christoph Waltz is. Love that man.
Christopher Waltz's act as Hans Landa was a masterpiece.
Christoph Waltz one of the great acting performances.
So basically the bad guy won in the end, but he gets marked by Pitt lol
I love how Landa snuck in "Some would call it a terrorist plot" so casual. I spit my drink out some when I heard that the first time. Lmao 😂 I rewound that part like 10x I thought it was so funny lol.
El trabajo de Chris Waltz, es extraordinario.Sólo por el hecho de interpretar con tanta solvencia su personaje en cuatro idiomas diferentes, merece ser reconocido como uno de los mejores actores de la historia del cine

Perfect casting, perfect acting juxtaposed to not so great casting and not so great acting is my impression of this short.

Tarantino really lucked out discovering waltz. He’s such a good actor and makes a unique and terrifying villain
When "Inglorious Basterds" was released in France, the french 3rd TV channel programmed an austrian telefilm with Christoph Waltz as one of the main characters. It was quite impressive to see his performance in that telefilm as he was already far better than the two other actors. The rest is History now...
He rips the emotion out of the audience, the "I want to slap him silly" response.
there is a flaw in this movie, ain't no way a German would've understood a single word of Aldo said in that American accent.

This movie, like most, was the first time that I saw Christoph Waltz. I fell in love with him. He became my favorite actor!
I love how Waltz’s interviews throughout this film play as chess matches that he always wins. But his harshest critics/final opponents had the final say, of which he was forever left to remember his winning ways- poetic justice at its finest!
His subtle expression change in the beginning of the movie always scared me. He is so good at acting, sometimes I forget he’s Christoph and not just one of his characters. The whole 360 flip to being a good guy in Django was also crazy. For the longest time I didn’t think it was the same person. 😂
