"A Damn Good Detective." - Inglourious Basterds (2009) #shorts #inglouriousbasterds #movie
Inglourious Basterds is a 2009 war film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, starring Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger, Daniel Brühl, Til Schweiger and Mélanie Laurent. The film tells an alternate history story of two plots to assassinate Nazi Germany's leadership-one planned by Shosanna Dreyfus, a young French Jewish cinema proprietor, and the other planned by the British but ultimately conducted solely by a team of Jewish American soldiers led by First Lieutenant Aldo Raine. Christoph Waltz co-stars as Hans Landa, an SS colonel in charge of tracking down Raine's group. The title was inspired by Italian director Enzo G. Castellari's 1978 Euro War film The Inglorious Bastards, though Tarantino's film is not a remake of it.

@@RedRabbitEntertainment The US was terrified of Communist spies that infiltrated the government. They could've used Landa and his detective skills to find them and terminate them.
However, the swastica holds a very significant meaning. Landa would undoubtedly be able to sweet talk his way up the social ladder and make himself a very important man. But the swastica would be a stark reminder to those in charge of who he is. Yes he can be charming and a sweet talker, but he's a Nazi to the core

Just love the "nope" with a grin even though he's captive. Zero shits given 😂
And, unironically, with Hans it's smarter to say No there than yes. Because Hans is smart enough to know who Also is and what type of person he is, so he'd know Aldo was lying he if pretended he'd be merciful. Lying to him would just anger him, being honest that you'd act the same way he plans to is more effective.
@@thbssgvxxsstgv I mean, I always see it as simpler than that. Hans is a needle and Aldo is a sledgehammer. Both are good at what they do, Aldos job is just a lot simpler and so a simple man fits it well.
Bruh he knows nothing he will say will change anything anyway
The way the letter p pops when he says it just adds that extra sharpness to the defiance in his voice
@thbssgvxxsstgv You could interpret Hans's Jew Hunter denial as not showing Aldo the same respect. He might be lying to appear as a man just doing his job. He played up how he loved his unofficial title to the farmer in the opening scene, so which is the truth?

While Landa was incredibly smart and cunning. He made one major error here that would be punished quite severely later. He asked Aldo if he would show mercy if Landa was his prisoner. Aldo outright told him, he would not. And yet Landa willingly gave himself up as a prisoner later on, expecting there to be no consequences for who he was. Aldo is a man of his word and showed Landa no mercy.
Good catch I never realized those were related interactions

One of the greatest performances of all time! This guy is a legend
Such a great movie. Christoph Waltz is a great actor.
The script is perfection
He doesn't like jew hunter in this scene but seems to love it in the beginning
Yes, and that's intentional. Landa isn't really a Nazi in the sense that he doesn't believe in the Nazi philosophy. He just sees opportunity and he takes it. That's why he betrayed Hitler unlike the patriotic Nazi officer that Aldo and the Basterds killed in the beginning of the movie.
So his feelings towards his nickname is meant to be a metaphor. He told the farmer that he also dislikes jews and that he loves his nickname but both of those are lies because if he really believed in his cause that much, he'd try and save his boss. So the fact that he changes his opinion about his nickname is meant to give you a clue that he's about to jump ship because he knows that it's sinking.
Which also shows his opportunism
I feel like he likes it, but just as you said he sees an opportunity, so he pretends to dislike it just to get a chance to cooperate with the allies.
He said he didn’t like it in the beginning he just accepts it because it makes him know.
@@hittingyouovertheheadperfect analysis 👌. Hans is a purely opportunistic man. Will do anything and betray anyone for his own benefit. The definition of a coward.

I like how both times a German brought up Bridget after knowing shes playing both sides they do a good job showing how much a traitor must have been despised especially during those times.[
I don’t think he despises her for being a traitor since he clearly already plans to become one. I think there’s some psycho-sexual stuff going on. The scene where he strangles her is really weird. He easily could have killed her another way. They also know each other already might have been acquainted or even lovers at some point.
