  • @sbozinovic
    @sbozinovic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice video. But, I've connected the mm1+ to H5 (and later to Panasonic pro camera - ux90) via boya xlr pro adapter and the microphone does need power to work... not 48v phantom, but 3v attenuation (plugin) power.
    Also, I tried it 30cm away and I did need to raise a gain to get the audio to 24-12db range.
    Btw, you cannot monitor the audio as it is recorded onto the phone... only when the recording is played back. Maybe I need the right software, but i tried the phone's recorder and lexis audio editor. Didn't try it on the hybrid camera, like your gh panny or similar, though.

      @@goto032492 I don't own gh5, but eng ux90 that has xlr inputs with switchable phantom power only. I didn't try direct phantom because I was afraid to damage the microphone but used xlr to 3.5 mm with plugin power adapter. On zoom H5 I used it in 3.5 input (on the xy mic module) with and without plugin/bias power. It worked only when the power was switched on.

    • @markfriday
      @markfriday  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Sbozinovic! Maybe it has something to do with the MM1+'s new jack format, the old MM1's camera cable was TRS to TRS but now on the MM1+, you can't use a TRS to TRS cable but the mic's end is TRRS and camera's is TRS.

    • @markfriday
      @markfriday  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please let us know when you solve it!

    • @sbozinovic
      @sbozinovic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markfriday I didn't own old mm1, so I don't know if it could work without plugin power. But every condenser microphone (including Rode videomicro) seems to need it at least for the pre amp. Personally, I've used condenser mics (lavaliers) with trrs jacks and adapters to trs and ts and they all needed some power... most of the time they had a battery compartment for a small lr44 or similar batt.
      So, I think that there is nothing to solve with mm1+, it is just that type of the microphone and trrs jack seems to show that it is primarily oriented to phone videographers/ vloggers market 😉.

      Hi, Noah, did you get the Boya MM1 or MM1+? I don't think they come with a black foam windmuff but it you did get one then great! Hi Mark, thanks for the reply, I have the MM1+ like in this video. So if you look closely at your deadcat, you’ll see that the black windmuff is actually stuffed inside it. I wouldn’t have noticed it except that I had read that it came with both so I was looking for it. Anyway, I pulled it out of the deadcat, which was pretty difficult, and now I have them separated. But the deadcat doesn’t really hold its form that well without the other black foam one stuffed inside it, it just seems too big for the microphone. So I’m just kinda confused if it’s even meant to be taken apart or not. Definitely seems like the black one can be used by itself, but it’s a pain to get it in and out of the deadcat. Would love to know what you think if you have a chance to inspect yours more closely.

    You can’t make it work on the M50, because it is essentially a headset adapter for smartphones. It needs a TRRS connection. It works like this: The line out of the Boya gets into the smartphone, the smartphone processes the sound and sends the output back through the cable into the headphone jack of the Boya. The M50 can’t do this.

    BTW people, louder microphones aren't better. Louder means lower impedance. Lower impedances means more interference noise when amplifying the input, because you amplify the interferences which induce easier in lower impedance wires. The Rhode is definitely a better microphone, if you were able to amplify it at the same volume as the Boya, you'd know immediately which is crispier and less noisy. This fact is also true for headphones and any analog sound circuitry.
