Lifelong Metal Gear fan here. At the very least, play Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater. The original Metal Gear Solid Trilogy are by far the best games in the series. The others can be entertaining, but they can't touch the trilogy

The flip will knock out enemies if you’ve done the punch kick combo once. It’s just a little faster. Also the elevator scene with the guys you tossed over, yeah you just shoot them too. They just have a lot of health. I’m happy to see more people enjoying MGS for the first time. Playing this and MGS2 without any knowledge of the MSX versions in the late 90s/early 00s was driving me crazy since I didn’t get any of the references or characters to older games. Keep it up, looking forward to the other reviews!

Oh yeah, you can get the mine detector before the snowfield with the mines. It’s in the same building, but I’m not gonna say where. Just a heads up for any future playthroughs. 😉

Story behind VA recording is really interesting as they didnt have money to rent a proper studio so they rented an apartment and did all recording there while busy road was next to it

you should try Tenchu Stealth Assassins from the ps1 too. MGS and Tenchu were the best of the ps1

After playing MGS2 you should consider playing “Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes” if possible. A remake of MGS1 with MGS2’s graphics and mechanics, I think it’s good tho some call it controversial for the changes and the sad fact it’s hella expensive and only available on Nintendo GameCube.
