  • In todays video I share my ownership experience of my 2010 Golf GTI Mk6, how reliable are they? How much does it cost to run? I answer these questions and more. I have owned the car for around 5 years now and during that time I have had some bills, some faults, some repairs and general running costs like fuel, insurance and road tax. This is a car that doesn't seem to get the well deserved praise, often living in the shadow of the older Mk5 GTI and forgotten about now the Mk7 and even Mk8 cars have hit the road.
    When I started my youtube channel I was focusing on sharing my Porsche and the running costs that come with such a car but i quickly found that there is a huge demand and a love of the VW Golf GTI Mk6 so I thought why not share the story of this car too. I want to apologise for the lack of content on this car, I have been wanting to share it for some time and do plan to do quite a bit more with the car so if you are interested in how I get on living with a Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk6 2.0 TSI then please make sure to hit that subscribe button so you don't miss a single upload.

    Owning my 2010 GTI with 85k miles for 2 years, I can honestly say it's a great car especially if you're handy with some tools which will save you loads of money doing most repairs yourself. Only thing on mine was the a radiator leak and replaced it myself. Bought mine stock standard with a full service history and intend to keep it that way. New tensioner and regular maintenance should bring you far with this little bullet.

    A cool little video. It’s surprising and has to be one of the cheapest ways of owning a car. When I think how much my lease is on the tesla 😳 I often think id have been better off running a few year old car. Saying all that it made me think about my cayman. In three years that’s cost about £1200 a year all in except fuel. Bargain 👍 (though it has only done 8000 in three years 😂)

      Yeah for sure, getting something older but good. The single biggest issue is rolling the dice, some of these older cars can cause headaches with reliability. I’ve been lucky but the mk6 in general has some bad reviews.

    In my younger days, I had no choice but to own a used car. I was told, and experienced that running a used car, costs $1500.00 per year for repairs and maintenance. And it did. You are way below the average, good for you. But then it is a VW ! Great video, you answered the questions that an average car owner needs to know. Thanks, RickGTI….. 🌴🇺🇸

    I'm looking into buying an MK6 GTI 2011/12 mostly to be an daily driven and an hobby project, was wondering what is better, manual or dsg automatic? Thanks!

    • @JoeTalksCars
      @JoeTalksCars  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As a daily I’d go DSG, cheaper on fuel, quicker and of course in traffic way easier to live with. The manual however is such great fun!

    Bad things about the 2010 batch of mk6 gti are that the timing chains are really unreliable.

    • @JoeTalksCars

      100% it is! I have upgraded the tensioner in mine, had zero issues with the car.

      @@chrisstone8560 hey I was quoted around £1100 by one garage and £1400 by another garage. Most garages I phoned didn't even want to touch it or they told me it would be 2 months before I could get booked in. I found a friend to do it for me for £900 tho, chains, tensioner, guides, oil etc
