  • In this video, I review a Volkswagen Golf GTI MK6. It's a car than ran from 2009 to 2012 which is a very short production run and it had the follow in the mighty MK5's shoes. It's also a Japanese import which means the car has a few quirks and we discuss what it's like to own an imported car. The question is, why is the MK6 forgotten and does it deserve to?

      @@CarNitty GTI Clubsport MK7 off course! At just Stage 1 tune its 370hp over 460tq. Has same IS38 turbo as Golf R + its lighter & produces downforce! Also its a DSG so it smashes most resistance! Stock rims are forged! It also have a full custom turbo back which im mighty proud of! Waiting for integrated engineering carbon intake at moment! In future maby a TVS engineering optimization of DSG box would be interesting.. Check drive of build on my channel! 👍

    Easily take the mk6 over the mk5 and 7, very rare to see on the roads but now becoming more and more popular! Great to see a mk6 gti review Mizan! Thoroughly enjoyed

      Precisely why Muj bought one. He wanted to stand out and with a fairly OEM stock car, he definitely does which says a lot

      I still believe the Mk5 was built better

    • @CarNitty
      @CarNitty  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the MK6 is built better. The MK5 had corners cut in terms of materials due to the cost of research and development. For example, all MK5s apart from the R32 and Ed30 have plastic rear bumpers and plastic sideskirts.

      Definitely a great car to buy especially compared to the 6R considering the share the same engine configuration so a well tuned GTI is very appealing

    Good review on a car that doesn't get much love. The mk5 and mk7s love child.
    Any more content on the R32 in the near future?

    • @CarNitty
      @CarNitty  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely the forgotten GTI. It was always going to have a hard job to follow up with what the MK5 did and the MK7s popularity only just makes this car even more of a hidden gem.
      Yes, plenty of R32 content to come. Will be comparing it against many cars just like I did with my M135i previously! A mini series to follow soon

    Dope video. Just a heads up, the Japanese version of the Mk6 GTI has the k03 turbo just like all the rest. Only exception is the ed35 that had the k04. A stage 1 k03 GTI definitely won’t see 260+ HP. You need a proper down pipe to achieve these numbers. Stage 1 remap puts you around 230-240ish if you have a good tuner . And In the states the mk6 went from 2010-2014 and the later models (mid 2013/2014) are the best because they solved the timing chain tensioner issues along with the water pump. When it comes to style the Mk6 is miles ahead of the Mk5 with a better rear end (no more bubble butt) duel exhaust, LED taillights, better headlights with LED running lights, and a much better interior overall.

    Good video. Ive kind of changed my perception on mk6 a little bit. But i still think mk5 looks better. Mk6 looks softer. Just my opinion. But very good video 📹 👌🏽 👏 👍🏽

    • @CarNitty
      @CarNitty  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they put more effort into the MK6 than the MK5. You can tell by the lack of plastic bumpers and a proper diffuser but that being said if you're modifying one, the MK5 is just a hard proposition to not say no to

    MK5 Edition 30 over a MK6 GTI in my opinion, the engines in the MK6 Gti ain't the best for reliability with the chain tensioners giving way and snapping the chain. I have had 2 ED30s so far and would have one again. I currently have a MK6 R. Which is the best of both worlds although you do pay have to pay a premium for this.

    • @CarNitty
      @CarNitty  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the Ed30 is a safe investment compared to a MK6 GTI but it's still an older car for similar money.
      As Muj says, he feels like the MK6 is the perfect middle ground between the common MK5 and the also common yet far more expensive MK7.
      The MK6 R is holding value really highly so that is my could be out of budget for many

      Mk6 35 edition over a 30 edition for sure, similar pricing, bigger turbo pretty sure it shares the same motor as the mk5 r, and your still buying into mk6 platform over the mk5.

      The edition 35 will cost a lot more than a edition 30

      Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any companies that specialise on this. One dealership I've seen that sells a lot of imported cars is Car Solutions Bedfordshire so give them a ring

  • @wadenorton35

    I've had a mk6gti for 8 years and it's by far under rated. it's one of the best cars you can buy. The Engine is better than the mk5 even though it isn't the most reliable. I havent had many issues at all but the aftermarket support for this vehicle is unbelievablly big, and with a simple K04 conversion it will keep up with even the latest sport coupes and even something like the M2 comp.
    the interior is a huge jump from the mk5. the mk6 interior feels more polished and less rattley than the mk5. also the exterior is alot sleeker than the mk5. Even though people call it a face-lift from mk5 they really have changed every panel and interior piece aswell as the engine and gearbox is totaly different. the headlights are light-years ahead and the tuning support is mega.
    I love my mk6 gti and will never sell it and because of the cross-platform support I was able to install mk6R LED taillights, Porsche Cayne brembo brakes. a45 amg rotors, golf 6 R recaro wingback seats, Audi TTs K04 Turbo, Audi R8 coilpacks, mk7R wheels, Wavetrac LSD, Audi S3 intercooler. With this car you are able to take the best parts off any other Vag car and install it.
    I know push 380HP and 550nm of torque. that's more than you'll ever need on the street in a car that only weighs 1.3t

    • @CarNitty
      @CarNitty  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like you've got a weapon of a GTI there. Glad you're happy with your purchase and good luck with the build as with any project car, it's never-ending 🤣

      And an imprt MK7 isn't something I contemplated as UK MK7 is much more expensive than a MK6

      Great daily driver and the n55 isn’t bad, just maintain it like any other engine .
      Looking at the mk6 though, might have to agree with you, I just tested both the mk6 and mk7 and the 7 feels artificial

    • @CarNitty
      @CarNitty  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @bettersteps a 2 door would be the convertible/cabriolet. I assume you mean 3 door? It's not uncommon for some cars to be registered when the new generation has already launched as they're finishing up the stock

    • @bettersteps
      @bettersteps 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CarNitty OK, it's a three door. It's still not a convertible and it is still a 2013. I was only correcting, the incorrect information. You are trying to get out of admitting that VW still made a GTI in 2013. When I purchased my 2013 new, the new generation GTI had not even been revealed.

      Yeah I'm not sure about that. I think it should be around 250/260 mark. The owner says apparently the JDM cars have a better turbo/internals to be more tunable but I've not seen/read anything about this myself
