That sound realistic as its the top shelf variant which only the private buying public buy .12months applies to the entry grade gx hybrid as fleet , government Dept,Telstra ,rental car companies and private buyer's so it a lot of RAV4 s orders to fill
Hybrids only make sense for city driving. On the highway you are just carting a heavy battery. Yes they can assist a little on acceleration on the highway for overtaking or up hills, but that does not justify the extra cost and gives very little in fuel savings. The RAV4 hybrid has a larger engine (2.5L) to cope with the extra weight of the battery, compared to the petrol-only equivalent (2.0L). This seems completely pointless. Thus I wonder if an SUV like this in hybrid form is justifiable if it is only really useful in the city. And given the small difference in overall fuel economy between petrol-only (6L/100km) and hybrid (4.7), it would take around 180,000km to break even with the extra cost of the hybrid. And then there is the possibility that the hybrid by then would need a new battery, as they are generally only guaranteed for 100,000 km. The petrol-only car would not have that significant later on cost. Additionally, hybrid car maintenance is more costly because they are far more complex machines. While the idea of hybrids is interesting, they actually don't make much economic sense.

I've been reading up and down Matt Campbell's reviews of similar vehicles because he seems to have a preference for Toyota RAV4 regardless of its being well and truly dated. I found the Sportage and Tucson and Outback but nought on the CX5 nor Outlander. Maybe I missed some. He scored the latest Sportage and Kodiak quite a way below this "updated" RAV4 with CVT by giving it 8.3 compared to the others which rate only in the 7's. C'mon Matt you should try harder to be balanced because it makes it a lot more difficult to decide on a vehicle because your car's guide is faulty.
@@hypnoticvibes4184 If you do this, get the AWD. Very small price premium really and a much better driving experience, especially on wet roads. If you EVER venture off the bitumen, the FWD will have you sliding all over the place fighting the traction and stability control systems. Acceleration away from stand still is excellent with the AWD and that electric motor shove from take off is very good considering the miserly fuel use all the rest of the time.
The edge version makes no sense, with the new 2022 cruiser you get the ventilated seats and the power passenger seats, CarPlay resolution is still garbage. Perhaps wait for the 2023 version which will feature a smaller version of the Lexus larger display.

Please do some research and realise the first models that came out didn't have auto folding mirrors, led fog lamps etc where as new models coming out are getting it across all variants so your argument to pay more is invalid. At the time when i got one in 2020 i was told the waiting period would be 6 to 9 months for a cruiser hybrid OR get the demo with few hundred kms on it for 5 to 8 thousand more. Why u ask! Because they are in demand and covid lockdowns didn't help either.

Over 13 months waiting for our hybrid cruiser now… still no factory production slot allegedly!!
My Adventure Hybrid arrives in May.

Maybe switch your order to an XSE? Stock should be more readily available.
Thanks

We ordered hybrid cruiser AWD April last year and are finally picking up next week…. 11.5 months later
@tristansavery5023 did you get your rav4? how long did it take?
Hyundia and kia have hybrid version of there tucson santa fe the kia shortage and sorento they have mhev, hev and phev versions of these cars and have had them for quite some time over 12 months so what are you talking about
not sure what country you are in mate, but none of those versions are available in Australia
I ordered a cruiser back in November 2021 (not arrived yet) - the extra features are well worth the extra $ in the RAV4's (e.g., better digital dash, AWD, cooled heated seats which can be turned on or off, 10 way powered electric passenger seat, power tailgate, power sunroof, auto power folding mirrors, ambient lighting, gloss black alloys, digital rear view mirror if rear tailgate / boot? space is blocked with goods, leather upholstry, etc) as oppossed to the Camry where the top of the range SL does not offer that much more for similar $ ....
@breaker1685 has your rav4 arrived yet?
@@vijayp1436 Hi Vijay = No! Not arrived yet ! It has been 13-14 months since ordered. Apparently the current waiting time for a RAV4 Cruiser/Hybrid/AWD/White, if ordered now. is 20 to 24 months. What a farce! And the asking price is as of Jan 2023 is now $58-$59,000 - I do not know if I will have to pay that price on delivery. I certainly hope not. This price is for the updated 2023 model arriving in Australia soon. I am still not sure if my car will be the 2023 upgrade or the 2022 model. A Toyota sales rep told me, it may be the 2023 ugraded model, if built around NOV 2022 or later, but he wasn't totally sure. Last I checked with my own dealer they said it was going to be a 2022 non-upgrade model (not the 2023).
@@breaker1685 Yes..same for me. I ordered Cruiser in May 22, and no updates. Ordered from Melbourne, what about you?
@@vijayp1436 NSW
Great car but I needed more luggage room ,7 seat flexibility and more storage / compartment space in the front of the cabin with all the mod cons and safety tech so I had to look elsewhere.
I ordered a cruiser hybrid in March and I was told to expect it by q4 2022. Does it sound realistic? I am hearing 12 months wait time everywhere online.
Ordered Saturn blue

When it comes to the power, the hybrid is slower than gen4 2.5L petrol for Australian models.
Man i wish i could afford it.
We order xse back on early dec last year.once beginning of the year they increase by $1k and a month later you cant order any hybrid model.anyway cant wait to drive it(we are in nz by the way)
Oh, so the XSE is not available in hybrid in NZ now? Wow! The demand for hybrids here is extreme.

Smart nice Rav4
So true.
Who cares what he rates them. Just test drive all the vehicles and make up your own mind
Great review
Thanks!
Which one is good 2wd or awd?
Do you intend to go away from the highway or the suburbs? If not, save yourself the money and get the 2WD.
Cheers
Matt
@@carsguide thanks mate, mostly highways and suburbs but occasionally abit soft off-roading.
@@jasonhall7753 thanks mate
Screen is not even high resolution for this price.
I ordered the RAV4 cousin Lexus NX instead
I'm waiting to what the Corolla Cross brings to the table.
Less space than a RAV4 and more space than a Yaris Cross? 🤪
The edge version makes no sense, with the new 2022 cruiser you get the ventilated seats and the power passenger seats, CarPlay resolution is still garbage. Perhaps wait for the 2023 version which will feature a smaller version of the Lexus larger display.
It would be great if the 2023 version does get a better screen. It really lets the interior down a bit. The Lexus NX screen on the other hand: 😘

At current fuel prices in Australia... the $3000 premium should be recovered after about four tanks of juice.
