    The strong loft high launch golf club, is aimed at in the past a certain golfers. Now these products are so good, many golfers are trying them and using them, It's just technology and happens in every sport. I really don't see a problem. Great review thanks for your efforts.

    Great review & good to hear an explanation about strong lofts & the leap in irons technology which is why stronger loft is necessary. “Power Bats”/ “Game improvement” will soon disappear from general golfing vocabulary.....& if you hit further than you did before with a 7, learn & use an 8.......

    Good review Andy ,for people that don't hit the ball that far ,they can always say they are using a 7 iron but at 28 degrees they are not really.No ones really re designing new longer irons ,they are just moving the numbers around on the sole of the club .

    Totally agree on the look and that they should have just chromed it out. It does cheapen the look and make it look like a game improvement iron. Great review as always.

    Biggest issue as far as I'm concerned is gapping with strong lofted irons. With a 170+ carry on a 7 iron, with 12 yard gaps, your wedge is going 136, your lob wedge, to keep gaps needs to go 100. So anything under 100 yards means a manufactered shot. And we can't hit lob wedges 100 yards so there's going to be some big gaps. I don't need a 7 iron that goes as far as my 5 - I have a 5 iron for that.

    • @jaybyrne4562
      @jaybyrne4562 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can I ask then what club do you hit when you have 40 yds in? 50 yds in? 75 yds in?
      There's always gapping problems, you always need to be able to play half shots and 3/4 shots.
      I play my 50 degree wedge at 110 yds down to about 40 yds.
      But depending on the flight and spin I want, I might use my 46 degree for 40 yds, or my 60 degree for 80 yds.

    • @jaybyrne4562
      @jaybyrne4562 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know many average golfers that complain of hitting a 170+ 7 iron cos they can't gap low down. Most people at my course only hit 7i about 120 anyway! OAPs

    • @TheAverageGolfer
      @TheAverageGolfer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be honest Ian anything under a 100yds needs a manufactured shot anyway, does it not? We dont need to hit full wedges for every yardage do we? I would also be interested in your comparable launch angles 7 iton/5 iron

    • @justinstephenson9360
      @justinstephenson9360 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds about right, I cannot get 170 yards from my 7i but not far short and I hit my LW 95-100 yards. The reality is that I would very rarely want to hit a full LW so everything from just over 100 yards and below is a partial wedge

    Andy when I sold Howson Hippo and Nicklaus clubs in Europe Honma and Maruman were big in the markets where golf was still a snob sport ie France Germany and Italy and Switzerland ,I am talking about the years from 1990 to 2000.They were the PXG of today for sure

  • @justinstephenson9360
    @justinstephenson9360 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Completely agree with Andy about the low spin rate not being as big an issue as many make it out to be. Peak height and descent angle are just as important, maybe more important for stopping on greens.
    What the TH-cam club reviewers often forget about is that golf is played outdoors where there is frequently this thing called wind! Back spin and win make for very variable distances, much more so than low spinning irons. I played today (my i210s spin in the "normal" range compared to the low spin Honma's) in a 15 mph wind, down wind my 9i could fly 170-175 yards, into wind I was struggling to hit the green from 160 yards with a 5i.

    • @TheAverageGolfer
      @TheAverageGolfer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes thats reality and not confined to the sterile environment of a driving range, there are so many variables that impact on performance out there on the course but we seem to be 'spin' obsessed Justin, nice comments

    When I first read the headlines Andy I thought it was a spelling mistake and he was going to be driving around in a CRV. Numbers and lofts are irrelevance in todays clubs. Purchase should be made on launch, spin, decent angle and gapping, especially gapping to ensure you don't end up with half a dozen wedges in the bag. We need to get over our egos of hitting a 7 iron 200 yards.

    Good review - there’s a place for all types of clubs but strong lofted not for me.

    • @pickin4you
      @pickin4you 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The average m,an cannot afford a Porsche either, and the same with these clubs and the PXG's and many newer name brand clubs are getting to high they will need to be 5 years old before the AVERAGE worker, making an AVERAGE wage can afford them. I have said it before, but these companies will slowly price themselves into bankruptcy. Right now, only Pros, Dr's and Lawyers can afford such pricey items. The rest of us can just look and buy cheaper clubs.

      I won’t be buying Honma and my clubs presently are Callaway Rogue woods and Mizuno irons. I think the top end manufacturers will raise the bar in club production across the board so all will benefit - if money no object I would still be buying the clubs that I get fitted for and suit me best - probably still Mizuno (I believe Honma make a gold £4K driver - I’d never have that - even for £400!)
