I really like my Srixon driving iron. The feel is amazing.
As a lowish handicap I was fit into the u505. Gave my Srixon ZX Utility to my little brother and couldn’t be happier.
omg guys you didn’t include my Callaway UT iron I demand a follow up video!! wah wah wah
Just got fit at my local Club Champion for the Titleist U505. Would love to hear how that stacks up against these - I know it’s a couple years old now, but man that thing is a rocket ship!
I have the 4 iron U505. Love it. Need a 3 iron for sure.
My T200 utility 2 iron with the GD Tour AD is an absolute rocket. Usually fly it about 230 and in the summer it rolls out to 250+. the other day I hit it on a 420 par 4 that was a bit down wind and hit gap wedge in. The club is a beast.
Wouldn't mind seeing a video comparing hybrids vs. forgiving driving irons (DHY, iCrossover) vs. high lofted fairway woods - around 4 iron specs. Starting to re-think hybrid with dispersion issues that I'm not seeing with mid iron.
Would be really cool to see an address photo of head in bottom right of screen when introducing clubs on the first test shot. Would just mentally immerse viewer as if they were setting up to the ball and swinging in the bay with Ian.
Any reason why the titleist u505 was left off? I believe you guys were pretty high on it before. I actually have one, so just curious as to what in your minds didn’t put it up with the 5 tested? Love this content though. You are my source for information when comes to clubs
That was a 2023 club no?
@@fergusrandall7623ultimately yes but saw this as best performing for 2024…didn’t necessarily come across as new clubs for 2024. Even as a 2023 I would imagine comparing what is actually best one for 2024
I was really hoping to see you include the latest Titleist U505 utility iron in this test. The Tour Edge Exotics Ti Utility would also have been nice, but I feel that is a bit more of a "niche" product, but probably the best of the bunch for me.
I hit all of these (except the Wilson) and wound up with the U505, with a KBS Tour + shaft.
** I liked it feeling like my irons rather than a different type of club
Agree, unsure why it was left out!?
I've tried the DI's so many times, and while they feel incredible when poured, they are so unforgiving compared to a wood. My takeaway has been that these clubs are for the top tier strikers, everybody else just learn to flight your 3w or 5w lower. Just look how much Ian lost on his first strike that wasn't shown with the Wilson compared to a decent one. Hitting it lower isn't worth the -40 yards from a stinker.
This is exactly how I have always felt. Driving irons remind me of when I was a kid in the late 80’s and getting an old set of blades with a 1 iron in it that could never possibly be hit! Especially by a 12 year old like me! I wish they’d have had hybrids back when I started playing. I’m fine with those now as an old man! 😅. But I’ll never be able to hit a driving iron. I’m an average golfer. 🤷🏻♂️
Love my U505!
I’d take a driving iron any day over a hybrid!
I’d take a hybrid over a driving iron any week and a day over a driving iron.
Short shafted 5 wood with a just slightly too stiff shaft. This is the way.
I’ve been hooking the hell out of my hybrid lately. Might put my driving iron back in the bag.
I'll take a 2 iron blade over a hybrid
I'm the same.. Hybrids for whatever reason just don't fit my eye and I can't hit them to save my life as result.
U505 1 iron is a beast. Absolutely love mine
Do you have any other u505s? I'm playing a 2 iron bent to 20 degrees and still getting height. Makes me wonder what a 16 degree would do
@@scottw9267 just the 1 iron. Can still hit it 140 ft in the air if I want to. Otherwise stock is about 158 ball speed and 90 ft apex. She goes!
No titleist u505 or ping iCrossover?
Any benefit to Schefflers bag with 2 utility irons? 3-4 are older srixon utilities.
Recently swapped my zx7 4i for ZX utility with MMT 105tx and seeing higher launch, more ball speed and better gapping from my 5i.
surprised no Ping ICrossover. A bunch of guys I know play it and love it.
They see offset and won’t touch it 😂
I LOVE mine too. It’s awesome.
@@lawbinsonI'm the same. The offset is so offputting I could never hit it. I game a 505 bent 2 weak and I struggle to even deal with that
Titleist t200 2 iron gd ad di 85x long forgiving can hit high and low Perfect
What would be a cool test is if it’s a myth to hit driving irons into the wind… or, if a lower flight driver, mini, or 3 wood for windy days perform better
Thank you so much. Just got my P DHY as a 4 iron today. Can’t wait to try it on the range. 😊😊😊
Good vid guys but can’t help but feel these are targeted at a more American market. Over here in Scotland every decent player is playing T200/mizuno225/p790 etc. 90 foot apex just isn’t gonna work in a strong links wind. Would love to see a future vid comparing the ‘players’ driving irons
That tour ad DI 95x is probably the greatest driving iron shaft ever. I have a 105x in my Wilson staff blade 2i and it is unreal
iCrossover? U505?
Own a Wilson staff driving iron, but just upgraded to the new TM P-UDI. Love it. Liked the Wilson but the shaft seems too soft for me
What's the variation in head weight for all of these?
I definitely think the Ping Crossover should have been included. I played with a mid-handicap friend a couple of weeks ago, and he hit it (2i) beautifully. I gave it a try and found it easy to strike and control. You definitely do not need a high club head speed for these. Perhaps because of this, it is in a slightly different category ?
I play the iCrossover and it’s a shame it wasn’t one of the clubs in your test.
I have the previous Wilson Model driving iron in the bag and it's a beast
Yeah love the Wilson too, got the 18 and 21 degree with KBS 70 gram shaft.... also very workable for fade balflight for me.
Might be worthwhile slotting one between iron set and hybrids too. A niche within a niche 😅. Struggle with consistency with my 5i at 25 degrees, but hit 5h in the same loft to the moon.
I’ve ditched the stealth 7 wood and put in a mizuno 225 2 iron in the bag with a steel KBS Tour shaft, Fairway finder 👌
I just got a Cobra Tec Utility driving iron for my 4 iron spot and so far it’s fantastic, I also have a UDI and it’s fun but my woods are sooo much easier to hit
Without question, long-irons are tailored for a player with a low handicap. Moreover, a course and/or condition that will suit the player using it. That said, I would argue that the "vast majority" of golfers would be better off with hybrid or high-lofted 5/7 wood. In addition, such a wood offers more flexibility throughout the round. Personally, such an iron would be a dust collector in Southern California.
Wow, your channel is a breath of fresh air! Such positive vibes!
No T200 23' Utility. I tired the U505 and the T200 Utility and the T200 is awesome
Try the u500
Steel vs graphite in your favorite choice would be interesting. Then the clubhead speed difference would be on display. It would also show which one is more workable?!?!?
I need to use my 2 iron more often practice and course.
The windy season where I’m at is picking up more. But overall when playing my home course. I can’t justify needing to use it to shoot my lowest scores at home But it is very nice to have the option. It’s a security thing I think.
Great job guys.... really enjoyed this! Could you briefly give your rankings of these for looks/feel? Thanks!
Is there a ‘required’ swing speed to make these clubs work? I’ve tried a Wilson Staff a couple of years ago and just couldn’t get it to work. Felt I needed to swing at 110% to get anything from it. I’m a 95mph driver and I just feel swing speed is everything with this type of club.
Those TM UDIs are nukes. I've a Sim 3UDI (GD DI) and a Stealth 4UDI (MMT) which are both weapons in the right conditions.
The TM one has the lowest loft of all the club heads tested. Bump it up a degree to the rest of them and it wouldn't have stood out as much.
Would have loved to see the ping crossover in this comparison as well. Still, great stuff
Are the length of the driving irons the same as you change the loft or do they also get longer as loft decreases like with normal irons?
So I’m not a good player ! WHI 11.6 however I consider myself a good ball hitter - I have srixon zx5 through the bag Pw-4i (fully fitted at SGGT Edinburgh project x LS 125g 6.5 - then I have an old off the rack cobra 19° - 4i goes about the same distance 195-205 carry - Srixon ZX utility would look mint in the bag - was wondering as I’m old and getting older 48 would I go as stout in the shaft given how much longer the 2i would be ?
Any difference in face strength between driving irons? Some higher speed players struggle with faces caving in after fairly few shots
Love the channel guys. The technical insight brought my love for the game back. On that note, a question: does the wider sole of the PXG affect how you would strike a low stinger? And if so, how would you try to hit a low 5 wood (the extreme of a wide sole)? Asking as someone who struggles to hit fairway woods into the wind.
Focus on delofting, low point and ur angle of attack rather than the sole
Wouldn’t clubs react differently with different shafts? Especially from steel to graphite? Because I gain more yardage with graphite than steel
Ping Icrossicer won mygolfspy best driving iron. I've had it for over year now. Love it.
PXG sounds amazing.. it'd be swell if you could shaft them the same using Mikey's superior build skills
Gaming Titleist irons - T350 4i (1 deg weak), T200 5i (1 deg weak @25), T150 6-GW. Not getting along with the T350 4i and considering replacing it with a T200 Utility 4i but concerned at only 23 deg it won’t gap enough to my 5i. Usual ‘lefty’ issues of not being able to find a T200 utility to demo anywhere. Mainly use 4i as an off the tee club. Any suggestions appreciated.
Seems you’re invested in the titleist eco system - just buy one
On my GCQuad using FSX Play I feel like the ball bends more than normal too.
Disappointing not to see the ping, tried all of these and ping was the best
For you.
@@todddevine8818 well yeah lol
Great stuff, guys. (Just one request ... really helps if you label each club in the data tables).
I wish getting fit for a driving iron wasn’t so difficult. I want a new one but even at a CC location they don’t seem to want to do it bc it’s more niche & takes effort. Plus don’t even always have all the demo heads available. Stores only seem to want to sell them off the rack with very limited stock shaft options.
Love my Sub 70 699 U V2 3 Iron. It's a rocket launcher. Maybe need to do a DTC version of this series.
Would be curious to see how a Haywood driving iron compares to the lot as well
I’ll stick with my Callaway Apex 2022 2 iron. Still so sick 😍
Just traded in the ZX for the PXG.. that thing is a beast
Really enjoyed this!
Is it because you were playing on a hole of a course that this layout for a results table is like that? Go back to the other table! lol This one is much too bland for my tastes tbh. Great test of the driving irons, but personally i'm not a long enough hitting to even consider a driving iron in my bag. Considering since my driver only goes 230yds carry :\
How would the FliHi 4i compare to the same in MP225? Faster ball speed and more carry, or just a different ball flight?
Mizuno actually have a video on exactly this on their channel
Keeping the Wilson riff-raff happy I see!
Ping iCrossover…?
No Titleist u505????? Come on guys.
Played competitive golf for decades but for me golf is a game of minimizing damage and controlling the misses, which happen more than non-miss shots. Having said that hybrid all day for me. Sure driving irons feel awesome and look good and strokes my ego but my scorecard doesn’t care about the looks.
Do yourself a favor and buy a used 2018 Callaway x forged utility iron. The best driving iron ever made. Nothing is close.
Ian - what is your recommendation for someone with a steep delivery? I have a big gap between my 5iron and UW(19), I currently play Titleist T150’s and have a Callaway UW 19 degrees which I love. By the way I’m Left Handed and the UW stops at 19 degree for lefty’s . Any recommendations?
22-23 degree hybrid or FW wood sounds nice
Guys, i have played with a few driving irons between 2022 and now, and by far the best one you did not review. The ping crossover 2024 is long and its damn forgiving.
Driving irons definitely have their place, but I got rid of mine in favor of a 7 wood. The driving iron in my experience was a one trick pony and wasn't worth a darn on a long approach shot. Couldn't hold a green to save my life.
Where is the Ping iCrossover? Has been crowned by multiple sites as the best driving iron 2024.
Wow no cobra and ping? Leaving out the big dogs. 🐶 it’s cool to see strixon that brand is really building a cult following.
Titlelist 718 T-MB is still better than any here.
My 4 iron T-MB is a rocket. It keeps up with my U500 2iron. The U500 is more forgiving across the face but center strikes the T-MB springs off the face
Is that Ian playing the MP-243s?
Got a hybrid and a driving iron different uses
Look up Zac Radford. He has an insane stinger iron shot.
What impact/launch numbers you expect on a 85mph swimg?
Tbh, probably poor. I would guess 40-60 feet and 25 yards in roll
@@lukesommer4291 🤦🏼♂️
Still hitting my P770 2 iron when the driver is in the dog house. Unfortunately I don’t hit it like the big cat!
Hard to garner too much considering very different set ups.
Previous gen Staff Model UT still in my bag at 18degrees - automatic from the tee box, hitting it off the deck its pretty tough however
Was really looking forward to watching this on my TV. BUT. The amount of Loading and Buffering made it unmatchable 😔
Titleist?
It cannot be a test of the “best driving irons" without Titleist or Ping (or Tour Edge Exotics, for that matter)!
Why not compare them all with same shafts and lofts? Having one with 85gm graphite shaft and another with steel 120gm negates performance of heads
So, who exactly would be using a driving iron. I am scared to death of a 4 iron😰 I would imagine someone with a handicap under 10.
Taylormade DHY is closer to Mizuno Fli hi in profile.
Where’s Ping crossover?
production quality has gone way down with no sections and no labels of the data in the conclusion section
sad
You missed the cobra 😢 it's a little rocket
you also lose so many good northern courses by playing a pga in may as well. really aren’t prime till july august
Guys, please change the shot data view back to the old versions. It’s SO hard to read and follow now. #IfItAintBrokeDontFixIt
Great timing as my instructor said I need to get a driving iron
No Titleist? Callaway? Ping? Come on guys
i love the content but this is unrealistic, cause all of the different shafts, do it again but use the same shaft in each head then do the comparison then give the results...
Perhaps do it yourself? To quote the great Goldmember; there's no pleasing you.
I don’t jive with driving irons
the disrespect not including the ping crossover
No ping. Shame!
No ping?? What n tarnation kinda test is this😂
APEX UT???
Not a fair fight here Fraz! Some of those shafts are wildly different to compare heads. Plus, where’s the iCrossover!?!?!
Testing the new P-UDI today!
I bought the dhy, but wish I bought the udi. I hate chunky clubs which the dhy is. Hoping to sell it and switch the the udi.
@@atamagashock same here. Not even going to try the dhy. I have a hybrid already. Hope the TM demo van has all the options. Looking for the 4i with graphite shaft(s)
Is this a repost
How much prefer the golf course simulation rather than the driving range.
Whatever… 😊
