No matter how good the bow & arrows are, it's the shooter that's matter. With your swing, the ball would go all over the place no matter what club/brand you're hitting!
£1k, 2 me is not a massive investment, if the clubs are right, then money is not something that stops me buying something. I play on average 60-70 games a year, and in 9 yrs changed my clubs 3 times, R11s, £440, SDLRs £590 & now currently using P790s, £1070 AW to 4 all custom fitted. I've looked at other makers, but Taylormade seems to always win it for me. However these players irons look great, lets see what I go for in 2021? Another great review James, Homna is on everyone's tongue now, the massive amount of money they paid JR looks a bargain (if people do buy into it).
Not that I can afford either set of irons, but I just recently purchased a used set of Honma Twin Marks complete set of clubs from a 3 iron to 11 and a sand wedge, putter, driver, 3 and 5 woods, all 14 clubs for 3,500 Thai Baht and have played two rounds with the clubs and shot my second best round of golf in my entire life at the age of 65 with these clubs. My best round was a full 35 years ago and I am now playing golf like I was 30 years old again. Love these clubs, not sure I'd go for anything newer as these seem to fit me very well. Way out perform my Nike and Callaway set of clubs.....
I have got to say, Honma TW 747 V, is hands down, the best irons I have never had. I bought a brand new set from eBay for $500 4 to 10 irons (10 is the P), and Oh man, talking about great feeling...it's like baby's butt soft. I broke 80 for the first time with this set of clubs, and they are just so pure.
Last years model irons are around $500 US for 8 irons new and you can get the driver under $200 and I really doubt that there is a lot of different and nice video 👍⛳️🏌️
I just got fitted today...Honma TWT747P came out on top. One shot carried 200 (mostly 192 - my current 6 is 170). My average height was 40. The fitter couldn’t believe how high I hit it. No problem stopping it on the green. I’m a very solid 9.
There are a number of comments about the cost of some of the new clubs... would be good to see you do a course vlog where you get a set of second-hand clubs picked by your subscribers and review how they compare to the newest on the market...
The industry should also come up with a flex standard and I don't mean kick points . Ex one manufacturers stiff shaft is similar to another's Regular it could very easy be standardized to a point....
I don't think standardisation matters. You don't get to reduce your score because you hit a 7 iron to the green instead of a 6 iron. Loft is only one characteristic as well, just because 2 clubs have the same loft it doesn't mean they automatically perform in the same way. Similar to the car analogy above, build a shortlist of potential clubs you would like to use, test them and then use the most appropriate one for your game.
Your results are pretty interesting to me, the 747p goes dead straight and feels amazing for me, better than anything else on the market that i've tried.
I just purchased a set. I noticed the 11 (Gap Wedge) doesn't say tungsten on the sole like the others. I could see this being the case for the 10&11 or 8 to 11 but not for just one club. Is your 11 like that?
Brett Clarke agreed, traditional loft but weak in today’s market (I think correct loft as I game Titleist AP2 which is also 30) Even the P version isn’t that strong when you consider TM P790 is 26.5
James i love the irons , may i ask whats your views on the brand orka , keep up this content i admire your honesty with your reviews , too many brand biased
Roy Tuxford Honma is coming out with their new range in March so will eagerly await to see what they bring out and hopefully test in left hand. Though recently tired the pxg gen 3s and was blown away by the looks, feel and performance. Am seriously contemplating them. And equally available in left hand.
Aly's Golf Studio - thanks - i hadn’t given PXG too much thought because of their reputation for being expensive but your post prompted me to have a look. Really love the look of the Gen3’s- But I’m not sure I can bring myself to spend over £2500 for half a dozen sticks but £1200 for the 0211’s seems reasonable these days.
Roy Tuxford I did initially get four irons of the 0211 to try out. Regrettably don’t like them - they are cast clubs and not have the feel, nor consistency (more drop off) of the forged ones. And a bit bulky like the ping g clubs. So I am changing them now. One on my shortlist which I tested was the king cobra forged tec 2020. The distance gain was purely a loft issue and while nice at least to me they were not great. Having now tested thoroughly for a couple of hours the gen 3 it is hard to like many other clubs- hoping Honma comes out with something special soon. Or else one goes the Miura route but then you may as well spend for a really good set like the gen 3s and keep them for a good five or more years. Also as I only use less numbers of clubs I keep my purchase to a max of 5 irons (6-pw or even 7-GW depending on what wedges one already has, gapping and lofts). Indeed using only ten clubs in my bag in total has improved my golf and score no end, including doing a lot of putting with my hybrid and 58 degree wedge that really improves ones technique. But you are right the price is something else but more I reflect on it more I think it might be worth it for the combination of looks, feel, performance - especially if you are careful to be properly fitted. The pxg fitting process I found is better and more thorough than others. Onwards and upwards.
Good review enjoyed. Cost is what it is I think pricey but each 2 there own, my concern if I was a potential customer would be r they the same price players version and game improvement version. In my opinion I'd want a significant difference in improvement been much lower as say I get better lessons play more etc and a year later I'm rdy 4 players versions I'd be un happy 2 fork out another 1k for another set of same brand. Could you look at best budget clubs you recommend from hundred 2 say 400ish your thoughts n all that be helpful.
Really surprised at your spin rates. My ball speed with a 6 iron is identical to yours but my average spin is over 5700 for 182 total. Is 4500 normal? Sounds really low to me for mid iron....
I hit the Honma players cavity yesterday, the 747 V. Not very pleasing at impact. Quite firm metallurgy. Nowhere near as soft as Mizuno, Srixon 785, or some of the quality forged offerings like Callaway Apex Pro or X-Forged. The JPX 919 Tour kill these. Decent profile but they didn't strike me as "premium" which they are known to be.
Great review! These are pretty good looking clubs for their respective markets. I agree that they are pretty aggressively priced for a Honma Product. This should put them in the conversation with the other manufacturers for the mass market as well. That does appear to be the direction they are heading in. So here is what I don't gt about these clubs. There is something distinctly 2015-2016 about the way you described "P" Model. It's big, it has orange accents, and it doesn't have a "better player" look or feel WITH forgiveness. The sole looks a bit big, too. There isn't anything about this club that says 2019 "Player's distance" or "Game Improvement" iron. It's more of a 2016, Cobra style, Super Game improvement iron. Right? It just doesn't feel current to me. So I'm not sure how it's going to sell considering the competition their going up against. The VX looks alot better! That's a club I would take a look at and even want to try. Just my 2 cents...
James, with respect...ain’t no average golfers able to afford these clubs. My golf $$$ go like this... 1) Range balls and Green Fees 2) Used clubs as we can afford them 3) TH-cam for lessons. Just because a millionaire pro golfer can get them for free doesn’t mean I can buy them. As a note, Mr. Rose probably doesn’t care if I use his clubs or that it can improve my game. He probably doesn’t even care if we buy someone else’s brand. Can we skip these overpriced club reviews? Maybe a playing lesson mixed in?
I’m blown away with them! The TW 747 V’s have become my all time favorites. Best decision I made buying them. Try them, you’ll love them.
No matter how good the bow & arrows are, it's the shooter that's matter. With your swing, the ball would go all over the place no matter what club/brand you're hitting!

Another great and honest review, looking forward to seeing the players iron go up against your Mizuno iron and I would also love to see Mark test them

Well done on hitting 30 k subscribers James keep it up pal great stuff
Never heard of Honma clubs before Justin Rose. Good to see some reviews.
Q. How do you get the balls into the pyramid shape?
Both irons look lovely
I just got fitted today...Honma TWT747P came out on top. One shot carried 200 (mostly 192 - my current 6 is 170). My average height was 40. The fitter couldn’t believe how high I hit it. No problem stopping it on the green. I’m a very solid 9.

Great honest review James. Maybe you could start to review cheaper brands/clubs for those on a budget?
I find it annoying how much lofts can change between sets. Surely it's something that should be regulated?
Agreed :)
Why?
The industry should also come up with a flex standard and I don't mean kick points .
Ex one manufacturers stiff shaft is similar to another's Regular it could very easy be standardized to a point....
Rodney Greenwell that’s like saying all cars should have a standard engine. Wouldn’t work
I don't think standardisation matters. You don't get to reduce your score because you hit a 7 iron to the green instead of a 6 iron. Loft is only one characteristic as well, just because 2 clubs have the same loft it doesn't mean they automatically perform in the same way.

Loving the look of those. When you’re done with them you can just go ahead and send them my way. Appreciate it boss

@@randyspear796 yeah they don't put tungsten in 11 or SW
Great video james,love the content
30 degrees for a 6 iron is quite weak in today’s market that puts 7 iron at 34, I think the only clubs weaker than that are the Wilson v6’s
Brett Clarke agreed, traditional loft but weak in today’s market (I think correct loft as I game Titleist AP2 which is also 30) Even the P version isn’t that strong when you consider TM P790 is 26.5
Tw747 P 6-iron has 25° of Loft and not 28.5°.
Looks like James got his 6’s and 7’s mixed up then doesn’t it!
Looks like
Yeah my 7 iron is 35 and 6 is 31 so probably just a bit of an oversight
I'm playing Titleist 718 CB irons... do the 747V compare well? I love the look of these clubs.
I like the shoes, & the shoulder plane is looking a lot better!! 😎
It's very apparent isn't it? I replay his swing now from time time just looking for nuggets to help me improve my own.
I still think I'd like the ping 210's. Nothing fancy, just good lumps of metal on a stick.
James i love the irons , may i ask whats your views on the brand orka , keep up this content i admire your honesty with your reviews , too many brand biased
Nice review. How about putting the 747vx up against the apex pro for and interesting comparison
Interesting that you could say the same amount of numbers and letters as the Mizuno and many other brands, but have problems with 'new' products....
Fantastic dispersion......
Looks like the lesson with CR has paid off .....
James! Can you give us the individual carry and distance stats for each shot as you hit them? Either oraly or across the bottom of the screen.
I traded the m3 driver,3 wood and hybrid for the f9 driver, 3 and 5 wood Love them
I'm getting fit in 2 weeks at the golf show in my local area , I still think Im pre sold mizuno for now ,
Hi James, nice video. Probably not the place but would you mind if i asked a question about your swing/feel?
The players iron is virtually identical to the Srixon Z785 at the back
Regrettably the vx not produced in left hand. Will try out the 747p soon hopefully as a reference point.
Same problem with the P I believe.

Will you be testing the 747 V irons ?
James what’s the chances of you testing the Srixon irons and driver.
Not sure mate hopefully
Please please please get your hands on a F9 driver!
What are the swing weights? If you put 20g in the toe, where did they take it from to keep the swing weight? The hozel, I presume.
Bloody hell they're good looking
That forged looks like the apex pro from a couple of years ago
Random question … How's the new top of the backswing position coming along? Has Chris seen you lately?
