Because letting aside his outfit he's purely based on DMC1 Dante. Atlus caught the essence of the characer perfectly instead of the shameful thing Capcom did with DMC2. What is more, they put so much attention to the detail that some of his passive skills are direct references to DMC1 (this can be seen better in the japanese version). For me Nocturne Dante is the true DMC2 Dante even though until today I've found absurd that they choosed his DMC2 outfit insted of the 1 one.

But, if the whole shebang was a two-way deal (Capcom let Atlus use Dante because, iirc, Atlus let Capcom use one of their full time artists to design the Devil Triggers for DMC3), they could’ve used DMC3 Dante for some promotion for the upcoming game (kinda like how Roy was in Smash Bros Melee before his game even came out).
It's kinda weird that his sword moves have electric effects to them. Like, he did have an electric sword called Alastor, but hes using rebellion, which has nothing like that.
Actually it does make sense (more or less). In DMC2 you have the devil hearts, which allowed Dante to give elemental attributes to his sword, and the one he had at the start of 2 was the elctric one (even though the effects only reflected during DT). Anyway I agree with you because in Nocturne it looks like Rebellion pretends to be Alastor, something that pisses me of due the fact that I always found Alastor way cooler and if they wanted to give the sword the electric effect they could have used the fucking electric sword to begin with...

It was basically that Capcom would let ATLUS put Dante into Nocturne if Kaneko designed Dante and Vergil's Devil Trigger forms for DMC3, which is why they look like they were pulled straight out of Digital Devil Saga. If I were Capcom, I'd get Dante's DMC3 design done and then have them put that design in Nocturne.
I think he was good in PS2, but compared to Raidou? Not even close. His ability makes him as powerful as Surtur with Fire Boost (only applied in Phys and Fire attacks). The Pierce Skills makes him one of the best demons to gain in the game. The ones that can learn pierce are DemiFiend and Grimekala.

Raidou just feels like he has much higher quality animations. I love Dante being in the game but couldnt they at least have added a voice line for his provoke? Raidous summons for his skills also make his moves look alot more powerful then Dante's
I wish he had a "Devil Trigger" buff skill. It would probably be all basic buffs at once but only on Dante. Instead of an extremely high MP cost, it would probably be a minimal starting cost and a slight cost over time.

Like as a boss mechanic. If he deals damage, then after certain thresholds, the skill Showtime gets better. At B, it's identical to Meggido, A, it's identical to Meggidola, S, Megidolion, SS, S+50% atk boost, SSS, S+100% atk boost.

Dante in the OG Nocturne was great but here in the remaster with the Pierce skill added he's an absolute monster and one of the strongest demons in the entire game, such a good change for him along with bringing back his VA from DMC3 onwards! *SMOKING SEXY STYLE*

In the original he didn't have suns oath ie pierce and since he's so late game and can't be fused away the end game bosses made him an active hindrance now he's like Raidou busted af and definitely worth bringing to the party

Back on the PS2 when I played this the first time, I kept Dante as part of my team until the very end anyway despite the lack of Pierce, but yeah, he wasn't the best party member to have. It mostly worked out due to Showtime being an Almighty Skill that hits all enemies, and Holy Star getting rid of debuffs, but Metatron and Beelzibub had to pick up the slack in buffing and dealing out damage. I will be fair, I wasn't going for the "True Demon" route anyway, so mileage may vary.
