Man i run these trucks in the oil field. The slightly more loaded one with elec windows and 5.3l is what we use. We can fleet buy them 2 or more at 23700 each. And that 5.3l will get 22mpg with the multi displacement system down here at sea level. They are tuff after 100k miles they still don’t rattle near as much as a f150. And we have 5 dodge’s just like that with hemi’s in them and the goat is a rattle trap on these oil field roads after about 60k miles their door hinges are pure 💩 you have to keep a spray can of wd40 with you at all times.

The sqeaking driver door is weird common thing on 4th gen Rams, i have to oil it about once a year, maybe because its used less as personal vehicle...other then that i never had rattles and I pulled apart dashboard like about four times to add features, I had 3rd gen for 11 years, no rattles even my GM biased mechanic was surprised, also no issues with Chrysler Transmissions or engines, my 2007 4.3 fleet Silverado burnt lots of oil about quart a month had some minor electrical issues, transmission was very rough at D selecting, but never failed nor the engine. To be completely honest things might would be different if I would use my Ram heavy in a plant or something, although I know a company here who uses nothing but Fleet Rams, I guess I can ask them... now I have at work a fleet F-150 and it's pretty nice, but everything newer is usually nicer

I poured concrete steps in front of my house using bags of quickcrete cement. Hauled (20) 80lb bags back from Home Depot in the bed and I was VERY impressed with how it handled the payload. I was able to merge into traffic with no difficulties and honestly didn’t feel that much of a difference from how it felt unloaded. It stopped well too. I loved that engine. It was actually pretty peppy and fun to drive. I bought the truck used cause I got a good deal even tho I wanted a v8 but after owning it I realized that unless I was towing a heavy trailer, I didn’t need the V8 at all. Even though the fit and finish is better than the ram, ram had a lot of things better than the gmc (even though the ram was a POS). At 146 miles the front diff blew on the gmc. I'm going through Def like no tomorrow, it's regened 4 times in 360 miles. It's been getting hot and I was getting close to 30 mpg before the first regen. Now I'm getting about 22 mpg. I'm not impressed with this truck at all, especially with the performance of the 3.0. My Cummins never actively regened in 12,000 miles, I got 10,000 Miles from a tank of DEF, had better performance, same maintenance schedule and close to the same mpg. Geez we had a few hit 300,000miles plus before selling and replacing...one truck a grey 1991 gmc 4.3 4x4 we bought together with 370 000 miles and worked hard overloaded for 10 years. We would load a cord of fresh hardwood 80% of the time riding the 1/2 tons on the bumps tops lol..never had a issure.. well it was great until he passed and my family auctioned off the homestead and all split up.. Just some memories with this truck that are so special. Anyway back to it we had mostly 3/4tons with 350s(favorite all time) until the white w/ts came outwith 4.8 v8s and of coarse more of them 2cyl short 350v8/4.3v6! They're just so practical and reliable! We beat the hell out of those trucks. If you drove em soft you didn't get to drive em. I dont ever see that truck going away and long live the 4.3! It is VERY peaky. With the 2.7 so cheap, the only companies that get the 3.3 are car rental and for hire like uhaul. Take rate is less than 5% at this point. It's not a bad engine, it's just not a truck motor. You spend far too much time above 4,000 RPM. The 4.3 is probably the best base motor available. That being said, no half ton engine is "simple" DI, VVT, and cylinder deactivation aren't simple. The simplest is probably the 3.6 Pentastar in the Ram, but not by much. It is however, also quite peaky.

Just priced a 2020 4x4 F150 XL with no options other than base 4x4 chassis. MSRP of $31,335. Don't think I'm alone here on that, the Ford was just an example. Base 4x4 v6 short box 1500's, bring it. Adding a 3.55 rear locker to the Ford brings the total to $31,805. Keep in mind this is MSRP which will probably have to be ordered in my area. Advantages to this: 1) Similar overall size/wheelbase to a mid-size. 2) Higher payload and towing. 3) 6.5 foot bed that is also wider. Ultimate starter base for a camper/"overland vehicle" that doesn't break the bank. Add mid high truck topper and you have a hunt/camp vehicle that most of us in the regular cab market need.

Internet people > we want a basic truck with no luxury options.
Ford, GM and RAm.. >our best selling trucks are the luxury trims levels.

Great powertrain. Large displacement TORQUEY v6. No power up top nonsense. Love these trucks. My Dad had a 94 single cab with the v6 and I loved cruising in it.

29 Grand! might as well buy a slightly more comfortable 5.3 powered certified used truck. unless of courseI work where they have a fleet that gets rotated out every so often then whatever they want I'll drive 😁

Nice work Andrea , I grew up in a work truck working summers. These are the bread and butter rigs of construction, farming etc. All those who drive the loaded maxed out toy's probably never rolled up there sleeves and broke a sweat.

Please do more videos for simple trucks like this. I’m a DIY homeowner and was deciding last week between buying 2020 Silverado work truck vs used 2017 Nissan Titan XD single cab to haul lumber, mulch, concrete pavers, and to tow rental excavator. I ended up getting the Titan XD bc it was a better value for what I get. While researching, there were very few videos and articles about basic work trucks.

If they install a receiver hitch on the back of it. I can't understand why some truck manufacturers don't standardized hitches on their trucks from the factory, guest to keep the aftermarkets like CURT and others in business to manufacture hitch receivers if your truck didn't came equipped with it. Just don't mount the ball on the step bumper. LOL

So glad to see your reading the comments, and Andre Your doing a great job! but if you can get it set up the 99 mile mileage test, towing and empty and the Ike Gauntlet between the 3.3 f150, 4.3 Silverado/sierra, and the 3.6 ram would be great. testing the real HONEST TRUCKS.
Thanks for letting on that the sticker is simply a starting point for price negotiations, my 47k f150 left the dealer for 33k 5.0 10spd 4x4 super crew XLT chrome power everything towing big screen 6 person seating and a massive back seat room. even got ford pass rewards to include a front and rear dash camera system which I love. Keep up the good work Andre!

You can get this truck for 24k out the door in some states. The 4.3 6 speed auto is a durable powertrain. With the locking differential and weight in the back it will go just fine in moderate snow conditions.

Sold Chevrolets new from 2001-2004. Back then they were advanced but no tv screen in the dash, just simple logical controls.
Funny thing I noticed about the 4.3 V-6 in the S10 trucks seem like the engine revved a lot and noisy, and didn't have much power. In the full size Silverados on the other hand the truck moved effortlessly and seemed to have more torque. I don't know what the difference was, larger freer flowing exhaust, bigger tires, transmission and differential? All I know is the full size is the only one I would have bought.
Another thing about the 4.3 is that it's basically a 350 V-8 with two cylinders loped off, saving in manufaturing and materials cost as well as well know engine design that's been around forever.

My dads truck has a 4.3 vortex with 350k miles and they are such great work horse that I had to get one myself!! I got a gmc sierra with the same engine and I bought it with 260k because I know it still has plenty of life on it! Only thing is these trucks love fuel pumps!! We intalled the 6th pump on it in a period of 15 yrs but not as bad as the high Maintenance trucks out there!
