This is the rare feature so insane that you know it was either designed by an absolute riding legend OR someone who has literally never ridden a bike before
It looks absolutely terrible. Which means I could see Sam Pilgrim put some decent forks on a free kids bike, declare "This is so death!" and proceed to 360 off of the thing.
to be fair going down is the fastest way to get from heights to not heights! that's the mental trick I always used to do the high dive at the pool as a kid lol.
That thing is hilarious. I don’t think the words “hell no” have ever come out of my mouth faster than when I first saw that on the trail a couple of years ago. 😂 The trail itself though is really the perfect blue trail, isn’t it? Just the right amount of doable wood features, optional jumps and rocks to bridge the gap between blue and light black. They know how to build em out there!
It's funny how different people can be. I would not ride down a curvy mountain trail at 30mph but would gladly climb up on the beam and walk it. Thanks for taking us along!
@airlockengage Those bikers all have concussions and broken bones so they're easy to prey on. Makes sense for a cannibal tribe I guess, for them it's like going to the supermarket in the meat's department
Everything about that just comes together beautifully…the sketchy ladder, the insane tightrope walk across, the s curve in the already hideous feature, the total lack of landing… clearly inspired by someone who hates bikers
@Jordan Harris looking at the jump portion, the weathering, etc, i would say thats the case, and the S-curve is likely just the result of it getting wet, drying out, and getting wet again over time.
I've seen a few of dave's videos now and I gotta say I really respect his will to live. I was concerned at first, because most of this does look like a death wish, but he's not afraid of saying no to death when it calls. Good for you dave.
This is now on my to ride list. I would love to give that feature a go! Reminds me of all my favorite trails wraped up in one wreck your day event lol.
No idea what led me to this channel, but the algorithm must be doing something right cuz I've marathoned through a few videos and I loved them! Strangely mesmerizing and relaxing and exhilarating at the same time. I like seeing how you think things out and are careful and thoughtful while doing such an extreme sport. It teaches others to know their limits, which I think is good, but also has fun with it pointing out the really intense stuff. I'm suddenly very motivated by these videos. You've got a new subscriber!
It's not that it's unrideable, its that the landing was removed and the approach. I live in Revelstoke and we used to ride it all the time. Now the trail is called "Man Quads" and the local cycling association deactivated the big dubious features, and built new stuff thats also rad.
4:35 I used to be afraid of heights, then I started rock climbing, went to Six Flags, then jumped off a 30 foot cliff. I am still afraid of heights, I'm just good at not thinking about it.
I love mountain biking videos there’s just something so rewarding about it, I love feeling wind in my hair. I personally love mountain biking because I can take what it is I’m going through and I can just leave it at the top of the mountain. For me the woods and trails are a place of freedom from my PTSD. I’m free there in those woods going around corners and focusing as I do technical bits that give me a little rush of joy. Of all the like ‘sports’ I’ve put myself through I think this the one I’d gladly keeping doing until I can’t anymore.
@@daswienerle3018 fr who tf is gonna climb a sketchy ladder with a bike mount a bike on a wobbly skinny and somehow ride to the "jump" if you could call it that with enough speed to not die??
This is such a demanding sport. To be a good rider you need much more than fitness, strength and endurance. You need those three plus great reactions, timing, spacial awareness, flight path negotiations a split second before... And on top of all that, more bottle than the vast majority of us could ever muster. This sport and riders like you definitely deserve more coverage. You're pushing the limits of human maneuverability. Big respect from me.
Lol, oh that’s so funny. Really enjoyed watching you inch out on that sketchy feature. No F…ing way…. I especially liked..”and there’s your landing”. Good stuff
Looks like it USED to be a feature that was used, but got 'dismantled' so you couldn't get up there easily.. they didn't just tear the whole thing down, just enough to make it 'not useable'.
This was the first video I watched of DD and when he stopped at that feature I thought, does this dude even know how to ride a bike!? After binging every DD video after that I now question everything I think I know in life.
Yeaaaah, this is obviously a work in progress. I imagine the planks would just keep getting narrower and perhaps even the skinny at the end would have small planks, hence why the S-curve wouldn't be a problem. It would still be sketchy as anything, but not a total killer.
Dude that trail looked like a blast. But one of these days your going to run right into the paws of a bear or mountain lion. Thing is going to think "wow forest grub hub really does deliver! " 😂
Would be interesting to see that feature in it's original configuration. I am assuming it used to have a proper entrance ramp and probably some sort of landing or roll down at the finish. The old shool stuff (double black) on the Shore wasn't that different, with super skinny squirrel catcher enterences to stop most people (see Flying Circus).
Yeah looking at this thing, I'm not sure what the trail builders were thinking. The rest of the trail looks pretty fun, but that feature is a whole new level of insanity.
I'm thinking it probably has a video camera on it and just like the squirrel that wants the bird seed only to either successfully get it or to fail multiple times.. I wonder if it was an experimental thing for an agility course for a trail dog...(and dogs ONLY) Haha!
