- This is my attempt at making chicos tacos at home! Since I am across the country now I find myself craving it more often than not! If you’re in the same boat as me or simply would like to try to make this at home keep watching🖤
Chicos Tacos is a well known restaurant located in El Paso, Texas. It’s known for its tacos submerged in a tomato sauce covered in yellow cheese.
Of course my recipe does not compare to the original amazing government cheese doubles but they are right up there!

Ingredients for tomato sauce:
• 5 Roma tomatoes
• 1 Can of stewed tomatoes
• 3-4 cloves of garlic
• 1/2 small onion or 1/4 large onion
• 8 cups of water or chicken broth
• salt & chicken bouillon to taste
Ingredients for green salsa:
• 5 jalapeños
• 3 tomatillos
• 1 serrano pepper
• 1/4 onion
• 2-3 cloves of garlic
• salt & chicken bouillon to taste
Other ingredients:
• beef flautas
• crinkle cut French fries (optional)

Yes I made these during the pandemic..since we were on lockdown and couldn’t go anywhere but work, I decided to make them and now my son makes them too 😄

I can't wait to make this. I've lived in Denver for 37 years and just recently started craving Chicos. My son was in El Paso this week and brought me back four double orders. They were good, but nothing like fresh made. I'm glad I found your video, I was going to attempt to recreate the recipe. Your kids are adorable and you are beautiful! Blessings!
My husband doesn’t even like taquitos but LOVED this recipe. I lived in El Paso about 13 years ago and it was my FAVORITE! You nailed this one! Totally brings me back ❤️ And your green salsa is to die for! Best salsa verde I’ve ever had 👌
I love when you said "it's sopita juice". I tell my daughter that as well when I make chicos tacos.
I use a big can of whole tomatoes and some Roma tomatoes and the sauce stays a little thicker and tastes similar to the real one.

I was stationed at Fort Bliss in the 80s until 92. I loved Chico's Tacos. This got me really excited. Gotta make some. I'm in Ohio close to Cincinnati now. Great video thank you for sharing

Omg, I am totally gonna try this recipe! I miss El Paso, mainly for the food and ESPECIALLY Chico's Tacos! I wish they'd bring back the original cheese though. I've always said if I'm ever on death row and I get to pick my last meal, it's gonna be Chico's!

Thank you for the recipe! I made it and they were delicious! All I have to say is that I used 4 cups of chicken broth and 2 cups of water , and also the chicken bouillon and to me it tasted a lot like the chicken flavor but I asked my family and they said it was perfect , that it was probably just me because I’m the one who made it. They all said it was perfect ☺️ thank you! The salsa was delicious too!

Just made these subbed the water for chicken broth. I would say this is actually better than the real thing. I havent had it in years but this sauce is more flavorful. Great job so happy I found authentic El Paso food recipes. For Xmas I am trying your green enchiladas!

We, our family now live in Idaho and yes we are homesick for Real Chico's Tacos. Sadly they change the recipe and they didn't taste the same last time we ate there. We make our own but not the same as the original taste of the 80's. People told me it was the cheese but I don't think so. We will keep on trying making our own. As a quick recipe use a can of el pato yellow can and add same amount of water to dilute. Not exact but much quicker.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but couldn’t we just add the raw garlic + the onion (chopped) in with the whole tomatoes at the beginning to save time? By the way I’m halfway right now and the green salsa is addictive 👍

I was so excited to try Chicos tacos when I visited my husband’s family in El Paso but.. I was truly disappointed of the taste (it was just salty and no rich flavor not like all people from El Paso give thumbs up even my husband said the taste was not like it used to be)
