I’m 68 yrs old and I remember going to Chico’s Tacos since I was in high school. For teenagers, it was the place to meet and enjoy a cheap meal. Their tacos tasted so good back then. Decades passed and I never went back. However, a few years ago, a friend of mine invited me to go to Chico’s for lunch. In my opinion, the tacos did not taste the same. I remember they used to be delicious and savory but now the tacos taste different. The cheese and the sauce taste different too. The cheese had the consistency and taste of imitation cheese. If people are getting the “runs” after eating them I can see why 🤢. Everybody is different, so people might disagree but in my opinion, the tacos do not taste the same as they did 50 years ago LOL 😆 😝.
Elsa I hear the same from my parents and friends that went to Chicos back when they where different. They've definitely changed over the years. I remember going as a kid in the late 80s and 90s they tasted so good then. I'm sure they where even better when you where in high school
Your taste and body change after that long... You may not like them after once loving them... Also, your memories are ingrained in that taste.. It will never be as good as those fond memories. But, Alas the recipe could of got changed to :)

My girlfriend was from Chihuahua, Mexico and I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico; We met and fell in love in El Paso! We've been to El Paso many times since. With a suggestion from a friend who grew up eating at Chico's, My wife and I went to eat there. I can say "I've been there" and "Done that" but I can honestly say "I don't need to go there again" and "Who drinks tacos anyway"! I did enjoy the fries, but I guess my taste is geared toward more traditional Mexican or New Mexican food. I'm looking for other suggestions for dining in El Paso; After COVID........ 17 years removed from living in El Paso, I still crave nothing as much as getting some Chicos when I'm in town visiting family. Nothing quite like it. I've met many people in Texas and Louisiana who love Chicos. I've never met someone who knew about Chicos but didn't like them. I'm sure they exist but must not be many. She doesn't want to admit because she doesn't want to attract the wrong crowd, but, yes, Chicos has always been a hangover or still drunk go to place. When I was young my friends and I use to always be at Grahams Central Station dancing and boozing till near closing. Then we'd head over to Chicos to get right with the world. Amazing times.
I served jury duty with the guy who supplies Chico's. No insight on the recipe, but he said it's a very specific kind of cheese, and not local and they're just as picky about the other ingredients (believe it or not). They use Red and White ketchup, too which isn't like any other I've had. It's an experience, for sure. If you're ever in El Chuco, check out The Charcoaler, too - cannot beat those burgers.

I was licky enough to eat at the original Chico's, when they were across from the zoo, before they spread out all over town. Ahh I can taste them now, definitly one of a kind. Really miss them
At first taste impression we were not impressed. Because I forgot to pour the tomato sauce on them I ate one dry. Until we poured and drowned the rolled tacos in the tomato sauce then yep we agree they were very very good. That we ate at chicos multiple times during our 3 day visit in El Paso. In Spanish we would call these flautas ahogadas. We will eat there again when we go back in July. Another recommendation that we loved at eating at was Gorditas La Doña. We could not get enough of those gorditas at a very good price. Best gorditas ever find them on google maps and all the reviews are 5 stars!! ⭐️

You always have to teach the newbies how to "forklift them" from the ends with a fork so you don't burn your fingers. I've had out of town people try to stab them with the fork.Before the pandemic Chico's was open til 3am to get the crowd coming out of the bars. I actually did get to go to the original "shack" back in the early 70s. They use to sell menudo for the after bar crowd. I didn't even try the tacos the first couple of times there. It was a very tiny shack. Later they built the "modern style" Chicos in front of the shack and then tore down the shack for parking space.

Gone there growing up w/ my pops. It’s a hate it or love it fast food chain. No local considers it mexican food like many outsiders thing it’s just a place to eat that’s tex mex inspired. Fave way to order is 4 singles, 2fries, 3verde sauce & a coke to share with my pops then get the hotdogs (burger buns w/ red weenies) Miss it so much
Try the garbage burger next time you're there. It's not on the menu but it's so good! It's a king size hotdog with a burger patty and 4 rolled tacos in the burger. Pour some of the hot salsa on top and bam!🤘
They should've tried more stuff on the menu. I live here and I always get the Round-dog. It's the most delicious. It's just weenies sliced in half with beans and pickles and I love it

My family & I are leaving for family road trip from Maryland to Stafford, Texas. I wish El Paso wasn't So far from our destination in Texas. We are looking for things to do close to Stafford/Houston, Texas. Anyone with ideas would love to hear them. Already have plans for Space Center & Hemi Hideout in Berkshire, TX. Our son loves history, husband loves football (Redskins) & NASCAR. Thanks for any ideas.

You always have to teach the newbies how to "forklift them" from the ends with a fork so you don't burn your fingers. I've had out of town people try to stab them with the fork.Before the pandemic Chico's was open til 3am to get the crowd coming out of the bars. I actually did get to go to the original "shack" back in the early 70s. They use to sell menudo for the after bar crowd. I didn't even try the tacos the first couple of times there. It was a very tiny shack. Later they built the "modern style" Chicos in front of the shack and then tore down the shack for parking space.

Hello World it’s VERY low quality. It’s popular because it’s super cheap. When you’re in HS you eat there cuz that’s what you can afford. Some people can’t get over that and go as adults cuz of nostalgia. It’s like some adults still going to ultra shitty McDonalds!

Gone there growing up w/ my pops. It’s a hate it or love it fast food chain. No local considers it mexican food like many outsiders thing it’s just a place to eat that’s tex mex inspired. Fave way to order is 4 singles, 2fries, 3verde sauce & a coke to share with my pops then get the hotdogs (burger buns w/ red weenies) Miss it so much

Try the garbage burger next time you're there. It's not on the menu but it's so good! It's a king size hotdog with a burger patty and 4 rolled tacos in the burger. Pour some of the hot salsa on top and bam!🤘
