When I was in high school in the early 80's mom would give me a dollar for lunch everyday So I wouldn't eat lunch and on Friday Night would go to Chico's Tacos with my Friends I had five dollars I could buy a Double, Fry's, and large Coke I miss those days I still love Chico's Tacos but they don't love Me 😥😥
This is local food culture food. Some hate it, most love it. My best memories of EL Paso.

0:53 That girl is right. You can't describe it. The tomato sauce is tart, spicy, and super savory! I just moved here from Austin and I can't have enough Chico's!
Problem is that it's no longer Government cheese!
That special ingredient ( Gov. Cheese) was replaced and these fabulous tacos have a slightly different flavor for all of us that grew up in the 50's through early 90's.
That's about the time the Government stopped supplying this tasty smooth cheese.
We still go to Chico's Tacos trying to relive that Taste knowing that it's in our memories.

Hey @TheDayTripper, We need a hour-long crossover episode with not only Texas Country Reporter and the Texas Bucket List.. The title of the crossover should be called "The Daytripper's Country Bucket List Reporting through Tejas" or some shindig like that. Lol
Don't forget the spicy green sauce. It adds a lot of flavor, so I like to get some extra.

I'm an El Pasoan and those tacos are disgusting. You're basically eating fake cheese and processed ingredients. The tacos used to be filled with meat not anymore. You get a pinch of ground beef and fake plastic cheese. Not to mention the tacos are mass produced and stored for months in freezers so you're eating 6 month old food. It's a NO.
I haven't been back in like 13 years, but when I went to El paso we ate at chicos every day till I got sick of it.
I like your channel and the showcasings you do. I would suggest you review Pody's BBQ in Pecos, TX. It's a great pit stop in the Southwest desert that offers some really good food.

There was some sort of controversy a few years back when they switched out their cheese vendor. I really can't tell the difference. The secret is really in the tomato based sauce.
I agree, the tomato based sauce is very savory and unique. And just a little spicy.
Chicos tacos are the best when we go to El Paso we have to go eat there that’s why we visit this beautiful family place there’s no better place like chicos

I had it once when I was living in El Paso attending UTEP....overrated. It's just microwave taquitos smothered in tomato sauce and grated cheese.
Uuuh nooo!!! Where did you get microwave?? I worked there for an entire summer, and they fried every one of them tacos/flautas. Duuurrr!!!
