Little late to this reaction, but you were mentioning the sound and I saw twister twice in the theatre and the tornado sounds were incredible. I grew up in the midwest and saw a few tornadoes, one we were chasing after and it dropped right beside us in a field, and the sound in the movie while not technically accurap it definitely conveys the feel of being too close to a tornado. They have more of the rumble and roar of a train and less of the growl sound in the movie. This movie is so good at providing the tension, fear, and awe that comes from having a tornado hit too close for comfort.
If anyone is interested, Corridor Digital did a great deep dive on the SFX of this movie. What they did for the time and level of technology was actually insane. It should have been talked about more at the time but it really is an amazing thing to learn about
I feel that in the 90s FX reached their golden age, Terminator 2 is another of those wonders in FX and after the 90s, I don't know what happened, but the effects in my opinion were involuted and we see increasingly mediocre effects and everything done in CGI, I think we should go back to the old school, combine practical effects with a little CGi, not 100% CGI.
As I recall, this was one of the first big films where the CGI was a selling point. 30 years later, Twister still got it right. CGI for natural things and supplementing physical effects. Stop trying to make CGI actors
Funnily enough, just before this movie came out, my house was hit with an EF2 and completely destroyed...with me and my family still in it. I was 5. There was some PTSD. But I also watched Twister on VHS, repeatedly, and I was very much like Jo here, desperately trying to figure out what the hell had happened. Learned to read radar from local news stations during severe weather. Still watch storm chasers to this day.
Glad you all made it out and you found a positive way to handle it. I'm in Texas , hurricanes and a few tornadoes here occasionally. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🏽☀️.
Saw it on day of release in the Theater. The manager turned up the house lights and told everyone that it was going to be LOUD... that no, they would not turn it down... it was meant to be viewed this way. IT WAS GLORIOUS!!! Several scenes were enough to overwhelm you with the noise and visuals. It was an EXPERIENCE.
That year I was visiting the Universal studios in Florida and the Twister attraction with a tornado created indoor was the wildest thing ever. Will never forget the thrill.
I was in the EF5 that hit Joplin Missouri in 2011. It debarked trees, left a 3/4 mile wide & 13 mile long path of complete distraction, knocked a concrete hospital off its foundation. It was truly terrifying.
So I lived in Kansas from age 3 to 11 and while I thankfully never saw a tornado I did experience storms that did almost as much damage. And yet I still love this movie. It truly captures the horror and the thrill of storm chasing. And nowadays some chasers actually build their own ARMORED VEHICLES to not just chase storms but to get purposely in their way, drop down some anchors, and have tornadoes run over them while pointing cameras and other meteorological equipment up the funnel. There was a show on Discovery channel over 10 years ago called Storm Chasers where 2 groups of chasers with their own armored vehicles did just that. One with an IMAX camera.
The opening scene scared the shit out of me as a kid. Hell, it's still frightening today. I'd argue it was my first introduction to horror (which is my favorite genre alongside comedy).
Dude same it scared the crap out of me but then growing up as a kid I really wanted to learn more about tornadoes so I took adult books out of the library and read them on tornadoes and it fascinated me that I wanted to become a meteorologist when I grew up unfortunately I never continued pursuing that because I think it would just be too scary for me personally but for what it was worth as a kid totally worth it learning about twisters
The guy on Jo's team wearing the denim jacket is Todd Field, Academy Award winning Director of Tar. Waterspouts are tornadoes that form over water. Cyclones are massive low-pressure storms, like hurricanes, but form in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, and so rotate in the opposite direction from hurricanes.
As crazy as it is, this is such a comfort film for me. My mom and I would have movie nights and THIS film was always being watched. Such a great film. So glad you're covering this!!
My sister and I were actually obsessed with this movie when it came out. So much so that we even tried to get a group of people together from a kids summer community center and turn it into a play. It never happened though but we practiced. This movie made me love Alan Ruck though. Not that I didn't enjoy him in Ferris Bueller's Day Off but this and Speed really sold me. Rabbit is good, Rabbit is wise.
I just started watching True Blood and once I saw Lois Smith in an episode, I got super excited and said "OH MY GOD, THAT'S AUNT MEG!" and I started craving steak and eggs.
As someone who sees a tornado at least once a year, I can say that they’re cool. Seeing one always leaves me awestruck. It feels like the anticipation before the first drop on a roller coaster, at least to me. They’re very ethereal
I've lived in Oklahoma my whole life and this reaction makes me so happy. I love this movie. I was almost an extra in the new one, but I couldn't make it on the day they needed. Those are real Oklahoma meteorologists on the NEWS channels and several of them are still on today.
My daughter and I went to see this when it came out, it was on a large screen at an independent theater owned by a man who was a master at audio. He had the most fantastic system and we got to hear the wind swirling around us in the auditorium. I do know how tornados work, and much of this demands a willing suspension of disbelief, but it's just fun to watch. This was the first time I was aware of Philip Seymour Hoffman (I didn't know his name at the time), but I left the theater thinking he was the best part of the movie aside from the tornado special effects, and I said, "That guy is going to win an Oscar some day."
Does not matter if the effects don't hold up it is an iconic film and I watch these three films at least once a year because I grew up with them and they take me back to my childhood.
This movie is underrated, but it has a kickass soundtrack by Van Halen. The orchestral version of "Humans Being" can be heard when our heroes are driving out of town.
I grew up in tornado alley. When an EF 5 SHOWS UP on your front porch, the EARTH SHAKES; THE TREES ARE DEBARKED; COWS ARE RIPPED CLEAN OF THEIR LEATHERY HIDE; ASPHALT IS REMOVED FROM ROADWAYS; VEHICKLES ARE WRAPPED AROUND TREES; 5 STORY BUILDINGS CAN BE ROTATED SOME 3 FEET OFF THIER FOUNDATIONS!!
I'm pretty sure this movie bolstered my fear of storms as a child... aaaand is the reason why the sound of windchimes at night still sends shivers down my spine. 😅
I grew up in a place with lots of tornadoes and this movie scarred me so much more than literally anything else lol Also about the pipes, good advice is to sit in the bathtub if you don't have an underground storm shelter because it's one of the parts of a home most likely to stay.
Jan de Bont also directed Speed! This movie scared the crap out of me as a kid, the tornadoes felt like real monsters and I was terrified that a tornado would come for us. It's cool how they level up like video game bosses, and each tornado comes with it's own exciting set piece. The drive in theatre playing The Shining really creeped me out, and I love when the tornado rips the screen apart. I also remember being really sad when Melissa drives off and forgets the coffees on the roof.
I became a fan of weather because of this movie, and I used to watch it once a year. This is the first time since an EF4 tornado hit my house in 2019 that I've been able to watch it without it being too much to handle.
Used to see tornadoes all the time when I lived in New Mexico. The schools would only send us home if there were more than 3 of them within 5 miles. Used to have drills in school about what to do if we got hit by one. One day, after a tornado had blown through, we were driving home and noticed the telephone pulls looked...furry. The tornado had picked up straw from nearby fields and the wind was blowing so fast the straw was driven into the wood of the telephone poles and it was left sticking out like hair. Crazy. Nothing compared to the big ones they get out in Kansas, etc.
I've seen this movie more times than I can count and it never gets boring. This is probably my favorite disaster movie of all time. Needless to say I'm excited for Twisters when it comes out. It's too bad you two didn't see this when it was in theaters. That was quite the experience and that was before IMAX. It's fascinating to see people react to it for the first time. Also, I was obsessed with Ram pickups after it came out lol. As far as seeing a tornado, I never have, but I remember back in '98, my uncle had taken me out for dinner for my 15th birthday and as we were going home, this really severe thunderstorm barreled in that lasted well into the next morning. I didn't know it happened while the storm was going on, but apparently a funnel cloud was spotted over the downtown area of the city I live in. It didn't touch down, but it's still a good thing I didn't know because I was already scared enough as it was. Just like Roxy, I grew up in New England and that kind of thing doesn't usually happen here. That was the absolute worst thunderstorm I've ever experienced.
I just binged Mad about You last year. Helen hunt is under rated as great lead women in tv. Her character on that show was so strong and amazing. Strong tough lead. She had so much attitude in a fun way she was the one who stood up for herself and Paul. She was great.
I have been in a tornado back home in NC and it is the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. Since then, I have been scared of storms ever since
As someone who's lived in tornado alley my entire life and experienced quite a few 'nadoes, a water tornado is called a waterspout. A cyclone is the rotating winds/clouds that are usually the starting point of either a hurricane, waterspout, or tornado.
I love this movie. We watched it in the drive-in on a stormy night (we started dating in 1996), and we had the best time ever. Hubby and my old behind also had great fun making the kids watch it and for them to find out why we always joke about cows flying by when the weather is bad.
Michael Crichton also created the show ER, and wrote sphere and congo. I loved this film. the acting and action is phenomenal. and I love the soundtrack and the score.
When they mentioned an F5…for those of us in Moore, Okla, we’ve been hit by two F5s - May 3, 1999 (recorded winds >300mph) & May 20, 2013 (winds >200mph).
You guys have such a fun playful brother/sister chemistry, reminds me of how I am with my sister! Hope you two do more movie reactions! When I first saw this movie in ‘96 it made me wanna be a tornado chaser. For a short time. But it’s one of my favorite movies.
I used to watch this movie on VHS as a kid into young adult and was mesmerized by the movies thrills and action. I started thinking this looks like the coolest job in the world I should chase storms too.
One of my favorite movies from the 90s and probably one of my favorite movies overall. This movie got me interested in storm chasing as a kid and till this day I am fascinated by tornadoes
Here in Oklahoma, we have a Tornado Season which lasts from March 15 to June 15, and on occasion see one close to an F5. Last one I witnessed in person was May 3, 1999 and again in ‘13. They are scary as hell but that’s why we have a weekly test of the alert system every Saturday at noon. And an easy way to tell if there’s one coming, if it looks stormy out, if it changes temp within 2 minutes from warm and humid to cold. And the drive in scene wasn’t the actual drive in here, the flash at night behind the screen was the only true part, the garage, layout and everything isn’t there. The drive in is called The Beacon and it’s in Guthrie about 40 minutes north from where I live.
This movie is so perfectly 90s romantic action movie, which was truly a genre imo. I love this movie we had it on tape so no telling how many times I saw it.
Tornados are winds moving in a spiral formation, they don't suck up like many people think, but blow things in a circle that makes it look like things are sucked up. Water tornados are called water spouts.
“Twister” was my dad’s fave move for a long time back when it came out. So I’ve seen it a fair few times. Also super excited to also Roxy in “Crust” when it is available!
oh darn, you didnt include the best and most quoted line in the movie "cow...other cow" "actually, i think that was the same one" hahahahaha i loved this movie as a kid!!
One of my favorite movies of all time ... I love the characters, I love the summer time vibe, I love the awesome soundtrack and I love the tornado action. I watch Twister at least once a year, always on a hot, humid thunderstormy evening!
Jan de Bont also directed Speed two years earlier, and was the cinematographer on Die Hard and The Hunt for Red October. I love this movie, and it’s one of my favourite performances from Bill Paxton.
One of my favorite movies. Helen Hunt was starring in the sitcom Mad About You with one Paul Reiser (AKA Dr. Sam Owens from Stranger Things) as her husband.
Holy crap, I've known Roxy's going to be in Crust for a while now... but, this is the first time I'd heard what it's about. I mean... I just figured I would see it when I see it and find out then. But... oh man... XD
My understanding is that its about a former child star who runs a laundromat. He constantly gets harassed by a bully and cries into a pile of socks one day. The socks then come alive, turn into a monster, and start killing people. I think Roxy plays the girlfriend of the bully.
Been in a tornado. Scariest thing that Ive ever been through and Ive had multiple near death experiences. The feeling I got when I heard that monster right outside my window is a feeling you could never forget. Something that stays w you for life. Imagine all the walls shaking violently…thought we were dying that night no joke. Its crazy feeling to actually think you are about to die.
Yeah, it's this feeling that's unlike anything else.. It's that feeling like there's this living malevolent force, and all the air in the room is gone.. Like breathing feels strange and difficult as your world just.. Flips sideways..
As someone who grew up with tornado drills as a regular thing in school, we were taught interior bathrooms are the best place to go. Hold on to pipes/toilet or get in bathtub with a matress over you. And if out on the road seek cover in an underpass.
As someone who lived in Oklahoma and lived through the May 20th tornado (which was an f5) I think tornados are beautiful yet scary. I've went tornado chasing and it's the best adrenaline rush. Wouldn't recommend tho lmao.
I will NEVER understand why he thought grabbing the door during a tornado was a good idea. He could of lived if he had just stayed with Jo & her mom in the corner away from any possible debris.
I LOVE this movie. I remember the absolute urge to devote myself to becoming a tornado chaser when I grew up; both my brother and I. It didn't really pan out though with all the crazy life that got in the way, but I can say growing up in Central to northeast Texas, I was in two tornadoes myself. Both as a child during school in Plano, TX and the other while in a theater around Dallas or Denton I believe. Opening up the exit door of the theater as all the power had gone out besides emergency lighting, it was definitely a sight not soon forgotten of billboards, cars, and debris going every which way. 👀 But damn, do I love my thunderstorms and harsh weather.

If anyone is interested, Corridor Digital did a great deep dive on the SFX of this movie. What they did for the time and level of technology was actually insane. It should have been talked about more at the time but it really is an amazing thing to learn about
For those interested, it's the episode "VFX Artists React to Bad & Great CGi 16"
Any big budget movie from the 90s is going to have better special effects than any current movie.
Saw this as a kid as well. It was so awesome
All fun & games until a real one shows up.
Back row with the water coming down behind you and then when the stands collapse
@@micksplace Wish I could've checked it out but I was far younger at the time.
Reed Timmer has his own TH-cam channel and just filmed a tornado going over his vehicle like last week. Dude is crazy!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that remembers Storm Chasers. I loved that show!
Damn as an adult I can appreciate the IMAX camera 😂
I remember Storm Chasers. They even did a crossover with Mythbusters.
I still live in Kansas and I've seem 3 tornadoes and they're truly amazing lol so dangerous but beautiful
The sequel to “Twister” would be “Hurricane”.
I just re-watched this movie last year. It's iconic.
The soundtrack is a BANGER!! And R.I.P., Bill Paxton and Phillip Seymour Hoffman... ✊️😔
"Long Way Down" by GooGoo Dolls is still a bop!!!
This film is in my top 10 of all time favourites alongside Deep Impact, it's so re-watchable and the score by Mark Mancina is incredible!
Mark Mancina…SPEED.
Love this movie. R.I.P Bill Paxton & Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Can not wait for the long overdue sequel…Twisters.
As crazy as it is, this is such a comfort film for me. My mom and I would have movie nights and THIS film was always being watched. Such a great film. So glad you're covering this!!
Same! I used to listen to this movie on and off for almost a year as i went to sleep.
As a weatherman myself. A group of tornadoes is called a family and tornadoes are very fasinating
I just started watching True Blood and once I saw Lois Smith in an episode, I got super excited and said "OH MY GOD, THAT'S AUNT MEG!" and I started craving steak and eggs.
Man, Bill Paxton was just the best. And while we're at it, massive shoutout to Phillip Seymour Hoffman too.
This is in my top three disaster movies favourites
1. Dante’s peak
2. Volcano
3. Twister
YESSSS ❤
Dante's Peak is trash though. Have you seen it recently? It does not hold up.
Does not matter if the effects don't hold up it is an iconic film and I watch these three films at least once a year because I grew up with them and they take me back to my childhood.
Absolutely, I'd change the listing order a bit but yes all amazing.
@thewinner7382 ehh. I've Def watched it a few times in the last few years and it's still great to me.
This is one of the movies that you don’t think about but when someone brings it up you go OH YEAH I LOVE THAT MOVIE
This movie is underrated, but it has a kickass soundtrack by Van Halen. The orchestral version of "Humans Being" can be heard when our heroes are driving out of town.
Yeah. That part is called “A Walk In the Woods”.
Mark Mancina did amazing job with score as well
I grew up in tornado alley.
This was my Mother's favorite Thriller movie! (May she R.I.P.) So I grew up watching this almost traditionally about every few months in a year.
I'm pretty sure this movie bolstered my fear of storms as a child... aaaand is the reason why the sound of windchimes at night still sends shivers down my spine. 😅
I grew up in a place with lots of tornadoes and this movie scarred me so much more than literally anything else lol
Also about the pipes, good advice is to sit in the bathtub if you don't have an underground storm shelter because it's one of the parts of a home most likely to stay.
“I’ve done sex things before….” Proceed with the Beavis & Butthead laughs….I need more.
This movie was why I tried steak and eggs for the first time, thanks Aunt Mae.
Maybe having Helen Hunt’s character’s aunt was another nod to The Wizard of Oz. (Auntie Em and all that).
Michael Crichton also created the show ER, and wrote sphere and congo.
I loved this film. the acting and action is phenomenal. and I love the soundtrack and the score.
Don't forget "The Andromeda Strain".
Thank you!!
Yooooooo I was in the 6th grade when this came out. Loved it. Been to the actual filming location back in the day and RIP Bill Paxton….
I come for the review/reaction. I stay for the banter between Greg and Roxy
And it’s called a water spout. They’ve also been shooting for Twisters for the past week and a half in OKC and Okarche.
You both reacting to movies is a must see! Keep these coming please.
Twister is an awesome movie. Watched it so many times. Rest in Peace to the legendary Bill Paxton.
I love this movie. It has such a great cast! It’s my favorite 90’s disaster movie!
oh darn, you didnt include the best and most quoted line in the movie "cow...other cow" "actually, i think that was the same one" hahahahaha i loved this movie as a kid!!
Omg a CLASSIC I was OBSESSED. Also, being from the south, tornados literally sound like animal growls.
"I've done sex stuff before"..... *awkward chuckle x2*😂😂
Absolutely love this movie! I met Cary Elwes and had him sign my copy. Such an amazing man.
Greg the cow in the tornado scene was remade for a capital one commercial featuring Bill Paxton from a few years ago. RIP Paxton
Still one of the greatest disaster movies of all time in my opinion. Quite possibly the greatest but that's just my opinion again
Twister and Dante’s Peak are my 1 and 2
One of my favorite movies. Helen Hunt was starring in the sitcom Mad About You with one Paul Reiser (AKA Dr. Sam Owens from Stranger Things) as her husband.
This movie used to scare the crap out of me. I got caught in a tornado as a kid and it seriously kicked off my anxiety
Rocket Roxy: You don't want to trap anyone in a position they don't want to be in.
Greg: Well, yeah, that's just... like, your opinion, man.
😂
Been in a tornado. Scariest thing that Ive ever been through and Ive had multiple near death experiences. The feeling I got when I heard that monster right outside my window is a feeling you could never forget. Something that stays w you for life. Imagine all the walls shaking violently…thought we were dying that night no joke. Its crazy feeling to actually think you are about to die.
The noise is something I'll never forget, and it was nearly 30 years ago. You hear some freaky sounds when it hits you directly...
Yeah, it's this feeling that's unlike anything else.. It's that feeling like there's this living malevolent force, and all the air in the room is gone.. Like breathing feels strange and difficult as your world just.. Flips sideways..
"I've done sex stuff before" followed by awkward laughing by both
As someone who grew up with tornado drills as a regular thing in school, we were taught interior bathrooms are the best place to go. Hold on to pipes/toilet or get in bathtub with a matress over you. And if out on the road seek cover in an underpass.
The way you pronounced the director’s name was like Joey from Friends trying to speak French. Lol
Lmao amazing reference
I’m from the Midwest, and I have experienced tornadoes. They are IMO, the single most terrifying weather thing to happen, nothing is safe in its path.
Seeing Twister in theatres is one of my most memorable movie going experiences :)
As someone who lived in Oklahoma and lived through the May 20th tornado (which was an f5) I think tornados are beautiful yet scary. I've went tornado chasing and it's the best adrenaline rush. Wouldn't recommend tho lmao.
Never seen this classic!?!? Let's goooooo!
Awesome to see you guys here. You should definitely react to this masterpiece
@@itzbp9949 I think everyone has seen it. But I can check 🤙
If you haven't seen it. Could just be a lone reaction maybe?
Alan Ruck fan here, I regulary say "Rabbit is good, Rabbit is wise"
Also, the Eddie Van Halen guitar instrumental during the credits is amazing.
RESPECT THE WIND!!!!
I will NEVER understand why he thought grabbing the door during a tornado was a good idea. He could of lived if he had just stayed with Jo & her mom in the corner away from any possible debris.
I don't care what anyone says this is the greatest movie of all time! Hands down
Also one of my favorites, very excited for the sequel! My family and friends have been saying "We've got cows!" ever since. 😁
aaaaaye, me and my family quote that too!!
But damn, do I love my thunderstorms and harsh weather.
