I've taken to buying sleeves to put my collection in. Not only does it save an absolute tonne of space, but it's also easier to get the discs out without damaging them. I've got a bunch of felt lined sleeves (and thanks to a similar lining in my 20 year old Buffy collection that has been played more than any other DVD I own, I know this prevents the disc from getting scratched). I then put this inside a larger sleeve that contains the original cover. Sure, I can't really display them on a shelf, but I never have to worry about stubborn cases making me feel like I'm going to snap the disc. Also, did I mention how much space it saves? I'm not joking. I can fit about sixty DVDs and blurays in a box about 20cm long.
Movie exec: we need a way to get people to preorder the bluray instead of waiting for a sale. Marketing dept.: Uh... Wrap the sturdy plastic case in cardboard? Movie exec: Sounds stupid, but okay!
As a dvd collector, i am oddly intrigued by their packaging. I see a lot of slipcovers for direct-to-video foreign monster horror films from ITN Distribution. Films like Blood Bite, Land Shark, and Tooth Fairy: Drill To Kill (yes, that is a real title). Why would those need slipcovers? And why are they so expensive, too? I am not spending 15 bucks on The Curse Of Humpty Dumpty. But as much as i love dvds. and love ranting about them, i have 1 big gripe. That is multiple companies having the distribution rights for 1 series. OH MY GOD I hate that. It sucks especially when a company does not want to reissue a movie that is fairly popular. I have had trouble finding all of the Halloween movies because 4 and 5 are very hard to find and they havent been printed for a reasonable price in 10 years. Sure, i could get the 4k versions, but they are expensive as hell. Same thing with the Godzilla series. I could buy the Criterion collection of the showa movies, but pricing, folks! We can go on and on with this The worst case, however, is the Puppet Master series. There is a high quality blu-ray set of the movies, and multiple other compilation releases, yet none ever contain Puppet Master Vs. Demonic Toys. There is no good way to get it on physical media. I saw it go for 40 bucks! I love Puppet Master, but im not gonna spend 40 bucks on their worst movie. Enough of my rant, I would like to hear about YOUR opinion on DVD Distribution issues.
this is made really well!!
Not gonna lie, those Disney cases gave me a bit of a culture shock. Over here in the US, we just had standard black cases.
Even though VHS had a few oddball cases like the original release of Shrek 1, they were pretty consistent on the cases even in the US
awesome work on this video
The only movie that the iconic movie moment cover trend would fit would be Scream 3 with the technologically advanced voice changer

I enjoyed this.
Underrated video

Thanks for sharing great video!
Well made video. Couldn’t agree more.
I love collecting physical media but man do I hate double sided disk, who thought that was a good idea
Great video!
