@@brandonpalmer5597 If I were to do the test again I might use a refillable lighter. My guess though is most folks don't refill these type of lighters even when they can. Kudos to those who do.
In the past I've used both butane lighters and matches to light propane grills in the past. The arc lighter is very similar to the igniters on most modern propane grills. Always be careful when lighting propane grills and make sure the top or lid/cover is up/open. We had a neighbor burn down their house because they tried to light their propane stove with the cover/lid down and all the gas inside exploded. I'm not recommending anything specific here since I can't know the condition or state of everyone's propane grill who reads this comment or watches this video. Thanks for your question, always welcome.
Sometimes our stove top doesn't light so we keep an empty piezo lighter. It doesn't need fuel and the spark has lasted thousands of uses, also, I think it was from the Dollar Store. So... How does that stack up? I even opened it and removed the safety so it sparks very easy. You have to decide for yourself which one is best based on how you use it. The few times I needed to light candles I just lit the stove and used it to light the candles.
LeechesG, I can see your point. kind of looking into a campfire is not the same as looking into an arc lighter. Maybe it has more "tech" pizazz. Thanks for your comment.
ytjbet, paper or fine shavings yes, much more than that would take a long time. But I'll have to try next time I build a fire and see. Thanks for the suggestion.
Matches are the cheapest and most reliable fire starters of those tested. Only thing the arclighter is good for is if you're having lots of outdoors litting of candles in wind, like parties or alike. And these more modern fire starting techniques, like the dura, ordinary lighter, arclighter etc. have reliability problems which isn't what you want. They go broke, lighter can have gas but won't spark, arclighter aswell is both electrical, mechanical which means it'll stop working, malfunction etc. There's a good gas lighter though, the old model Bic, if you can get it, that's reliable and durable like nothing else. Found one outdoors while chopping wood about a year back. I knew it wasn't mine and the colour was almost gone from lying in sun and rain for years. Tried it and boom, first attempt it lit and is still going strong. Here's from a cold and wintery Sweden and 30 years of fire starting, just enjoying the warmth and fire beauty coming from the stove while writing this (lit btw with said lighter above).
If you put your finger in the arc of the plasma lighter and get shocked, and that makes it unsafe? I guess putting your finger in the match flame and the butane flame is safer? Note, touching flame or arc, equally unsafe!
Jerome Cooper, very good point, agreed. When I made the video I was thinking some folks would not realize the arc would shock them. Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you!! Was searching for an affordable gift for my sister, but was concerned they wouldn't work (arc lighter)' I personally think there are good applications for each of the 3, but in a 1st world country, the arc lighter seems to be the winner~
Something that wasn't covered is that soot gums up the contacts on arc lighters easily. Being in the woods where you don't have a strong cleaner makes it useless.
I have a similar product to the Arc Lighter; it charges up in less than fifteen minutes from empty. If you leave the tip in the flame too long it can melt the insulation on the wiring at the tip; however, it's a good device overall.
There are some big disadvantages to arc lighter. Its tips will oxidize much quickly and then it wont work until you clean them with sand paper. Also you need to charge it often and those charging ports aren't that well made. Lastly batteries will go bad more quickly and way before advertised number of clicks are achieved.
simplygame, maybe so, on mine if there's build up I just use a paper towel to clean off. I've had my arc lighters for years and they're still working great. Then again if they are rough handled your point is well taken...
Arc light needs electricity. If your power is out and you need to light a candle but forgot to keep your arc lighter charged, it is useless. I use an arc lighter myself but always have a bic full of butane for back up. Chances are if your lighting candles, it’s because your hydro went out from a storm or downed line. Plasma lighters are pretty sweet, but if you are depending on it for power outages… keep a beefy power bank charged with it. The batteries are pretty small in the lighters and the arc consumes a LOT of that power quite quickly. I have to charge mine every three days or so and I am not a heavy smoker. And while they are quite effective in windy situations they will blow out with a puff or burst of air. So they are not completely wind proof.
Well, I really didn't expect you to touch the arc and receive the shock hahaha. I admit that I don't have this courage. So I ask you: is the shock strong weak? Something like that shocking prank pen?

Everything they accuse President Trump and Conservatives of, well you can pretty much guarantee they are guilty if that.
@@brandonpalmer5597 If I were to do the test again I might use a refillable lighter. My guess though is most folks don't refill these type of lighters even when they can. Kudos to those who do.
How long the battery will last?
over 500 lights, months depending on how frequently you use the lighter.
Amazing review!
Glad you enjoyed it.
With the match, why not light one candle, and then use that candle to light all the other candles... BTW, I like the arc lighter.
apathy11303, thanks for the suggestion, I would get wax everywhere, but that's just me.
Is duraflame refillable or disposable?
I think there are some versions that are refillable but most people just throw them away once the first round of fuel is out.
excellently done thanks
Joseph, you're quite welcome. Thanks for leaving a comment.
I felt there was a strong bias on Arclight Pizzazz!! Infomercial level excitement on that one 🤣😂
Great review 👌
Nia B. Pizzazz is important. Your comment has it! Thanks for the note.
@@MakeItorBreakItNow why thank you, sir! Lol I'm thoroughly convinced and bought one for myself 😀
@@Rose_Garden1312 look forward to hearing how the arc lighter works for you.
@@MakeItorBreakItNowI will definitely follow up once it arrives!!
@@Rose_Garden1312 .....so.... its been 6 months...
I love the fact that you replaced the tea lights, very scientific :)
Thanks, can't help it, its the tester in me.
Have you tried each of these on a propane grill? If so, what were the results? Thanks for the review!
MusikSkool, thanks for the feedback, I didn't know the Dollar Store sells these. I'll have to look for them during my next visit.
Excellent review nice job
Thanks Adam, appreciate your feedback.
Some disagreement on matches having no pizazz. Matches are cool and classic
LeechesG, I can see your point. kind of looking into a campfire is not the same as looking into an arc lighter. Maybe it has more "tech" pizazz. Thanks for your comment.
Nice honest review evaluated across multiple parameters, helpful before buying
s srihari, appreciate the feedback, always welcome.
Could the arc light start kindling in a fireplace?
ytjbet, paper or fine shavings yes, much more than that would take a long time.
Tobias, thanks for your very descriptive comment. Hard to argue with your experience and wisdom.
can it be used as a taser
maybe, but not really.
What if power goes out?
Others have mentioned using solar power chargers. Now if the sun goes out, we've got real problems...
Really nice informative video on arc lighter versus gas lighter versus match stick 👍
Tech Rajdeep, thanks for the feedback and thumbs up. Much appreciated. Glad you liked the video.
I just bought an Ozark Trail branded one at Walmart today, and for about $8 you can't beat it.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing dapperdingo
Ok I’m gonna try lighting it up because I am terrified of the lighter for some reason... So yeah I am trying right now.
how's it working for you?
If you put your finger in the arc of the plasma lighter and get shocked, and that makes it unsafe? I guess putting your finger in the match flame and the butane flame is safer? Note, touching flame or arc, equally unsafe!
Jerome Cooper, very good point, agreed. When I made the video I was thinking some folks would not realize the arc would shock them. Thanks for the feedback.
Fun! I love the wind challenge. Poor matches. I just got an arc lighter for my wood stove. I hope for good things. Thanks for the great video
Ken, stay tuned, just shot a wood stove video, will be posting soon.
the blue light stays on even on the OFF position. HELPPPPP
The battery size is a bit tiny though, inside its mostly circuits
You've convinced me. Thanks.
Carol Sze, thanks for the feedback, glad you found the video helpful. I made a Harry Potter out of the lighter that was a lot of fun.
Wtf! if you touch where its suposed to make heat you get burned? Thats crazy! Thanks for the review
You're welcome, when lighting anything no matter the source always be careful.
Thank you!!
Was searching for an affordable gift for my sister, but was concerned they wouldn't work (arc lighter)'
I personally think there are good applications for each of the 3, but in a 1st world country, the arc lighter seems to be the winner~
crazydays, very true. The arc lighter is a first world solution...
Awesome review! Anyone else got the "Lost In Space" reference? Because I did!
Mookie Cookie, thanks for your comment and the chuckle. It's nice to hear when folks pick up on some of my Easter eggs....
I hated it
Something that wasn't covered is that soot gums up the contacts on arc lighters easily. Being in the woods where you don't have a strong cleaner makes it useless.
I've rubbed the soot off with a paper towel, a bit of hand sanitzer could also work in a pinch.
this review is the best omg
thanks, glad you like it.
it's interesting, but does it light a cigarette? i don't light many candles
interesting, I don't light cigarettes, but I've seen others use arc lighters on tobacco products.
I have a similar product to the Arc Lighter; it charges up in less than fifteen minutes from empty. If you leave the tip in the flame too long it can melt the insulation on the wiring at the tip; however, it's a good device overall.
Knapweed, mine are still going strong. Sometimes cleaning the tips off with a wet one works for me.
@@MakeItorBreakItNow Yep, mine's been brill but it's had some really heavy use and abuse.
@@Knapweed sounds like you're a real world, extreme tester. The kind that keeps manufacturers on their toes...
And now we have the "Big flame Arc lighters", It can even be used on pipes.
Very true, thanks for sharing.
So they are not completely wind proof.
agree, backups are always good.
Well, I really didn't expect you to touch the arc and receive the shock hahaha. I admit that I don't have this courage. So I ask you: is the shock strong weak? Something like that shocking prank pen?
I guess it depends on your pain tolerance... Porbably about medium for most folks, not recommended...
Haha! Funny, and also great review. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked the review.
Best review video ever!
Tiayub Raja, thanks for your kind feedback. Stay tuned for more throwdowns currently in the works and will post soon.
The wooden matches break easily and the striker surface gets worn down. I'm going to get an arc lighter to light my wooden matches with. Good review!
William, interesting approach for sure, the best of both worlds...
