      at the rate they draw in cash for custom gear and monthly fees....yeah won't exactly be ending any time soon unless all of a sudden WoW gets a major overhaul in the next two expansions and does a lot of the same things ESO does like more dungeons and raids added each month or even every other month or so would do it. Also adding in more cool cosmetic stuff help it too. Honestly though don't see any of that happening any time soon especially with their focus being on Over Watch 2 with all the cosmetics and stuff it will be making to boost its cash in take. WoW's next expansion will draw some extra cash but they are really hemorrhaging money now due to the absolute failure of their mobile cash cow wannabe diablo immortal. Then the payments on the settlements for harassment suits etc...that is going on now...garranteed to cost them in the double digit millions each. Microsoft so far has backed off or held on pause with their purchase of Blizzard (not sure if they would bother with activision itself as they are doing too strong financially with their call of money series being so popular with streamers.). I would say they may go down or at least drop low enough for MS to decide to renegotiate their buy out from activision for a much lower price. lol even if ESO went free to play with microtrans to keep whoever buys it from their parent company at a song...it will live on a lot longer and have resurgance of player popularity. Kinda like LOTR Online has done.

    Nice summary! The thing holding me back from playing this again is the level scaling (and to a certain degree the lack of properly defined factions as well). It just becomes so boring after a while that wherever you go, enemies pose the exact same difficulty. It sort of removes the sense of progression and also the sense of dread going someplace you are severly underleveled for. Although it is nice that you can group with a friend regardless of their level, but personally I don't think that is worth the problems with level scaling.

    TL;DR: quit ESO and start playing FFXIV
    after playing ESO for a solid year and switching to FFXIV in the last month, it's safe to say I'm never going back. your video was so informative Lucky, and I think you worded everything to the best of your ability without saying that this game preys on the new in search for more whales to add to it's player base.
    the only small point I disagree with is that it's not pay to win. The Necro class is OP which is hidden behind a paywall. If you don't have summerset you can't craft your only jewelry. If you don't have clockwork city you can't transmute items. running Arx a million times for that inferno staff to drop only for the trait to be training XD countless leads going to waste unless you want to buy greymoor!
    not to mention every new DLC releases new gear and mythic items while the devs simultaneously nerf the previous OP items from past DLC's to force players to buy the new one. they even said previously that ESO plus players wouldn't pay for DLC's but they rebranded the new releases as "chapters" so you still have to pay the full price for it.
    ESO was my first MMO and I really enjoyed my time, but FFXIV is where it's at. The community is better, friendlier, and the devs actually listen to the player base. It feels rewarding to put thousands of hours in a game where you feel appreciated.

    • @il_ms
      @il_ms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      also I just watched sawman_uk's video where he pointed out that vampire bites and cures are in the crown store when they can be found in game for very little gold. it's more disappointing than anything that they only see players as glorified dollar signs 🤑
      yes this game can be played with plus, I did it for many months. but it is a huge waste of time to manage your inventory. if you don't think your time is valuable then by all means defend this game until the end. but seeing how different FFXIV is and realizing that the grass is actually greener on the other side left a poor taste in my mouth with ESO. I'm level 40 and my inventory hasn't filled up once. you can earn all the cool weapons and mounts in game. The combat takes some getting used to but it is so worth sticking around for. So glad you've started playing as well Lucky, I watch your streams way more often now as a result.

      If only FFXIV wasn't so slow, bland and boring I would play it. For now I am happy to sub to ESO and ignore the crown shop because nothing in there is really needed to enjoy the game. • @factionguy
      @factionguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @il_ms
      @il_ms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@factionguy cool you are entitled to your own opinion lol personally I like the way housing is set up in FFXIV, the neighborhood feel appeals to me, and that not everyone can have a huge house just by swiping their credit card. You don't lose an apartment if you unsub, only a house? But I've only been playing a month so I can admit where I don't have enough info on the topic. I've thoroughly enjoyed housing in ESO, I've seen some really awesome builds and it's nice owning almost 30 homes in different sizes and styles.
      but "is as OP in PVE" tells me all I need to know. oh my sweet summer child. magplar and sorc are the easiest classes in the game... they are meant to be brain-dead. and so is PvE content in the game. my first and main is a magplar and trust me, I love it, easy to complete arenas, dungeons etc. But go watch a class ranking guide, Necro and NB will be put above those two almost every time. They kinda screwed warden this patch tho some people will disagree and say it's still OP. This is all in regards to pvp, endgame and assuming you can parse/ are already playing at a higher skill level. In all honesty, I'm glad you enjoy the game! It brought me a lot of joy and will always have a special place in my heart.

    I think one thing to mention, and I’m not sure if anyone else said it lower in the comments, is that if you do end up paying for the sub you get 1650? I think crowns per month that your sub is charged. So yes you are “buying crowns” but you’re getting the sub at the same time. This makes it so that yes you can buy that expensive house or weapon skin eventually by not spending any extra than what you would have spent on the sub anyway. And if you choose to pay in advance for a 3 or 6 month sub you get all those crowns at once instead of having to wait per month. Loved the video though and agree with everything else

    Hey lucky, good review. Except for 1 thing: the combat.
    As a veteran ESO player, I will fix it:
    a) there aren't "tons" of skills and abilities. Each class has 3 lines. Then there are weapon skill lines, which, you only ever care about 2 at any time. Then the guild, racial, world skill lines are relatively minor skill lines that generally add passives. All this meaning that there are actually only a few skill lines that effect the way you play your character.
    "However you choose to play ESO, the combat will be dynamic and fun."
    So the fun part is subjective, but.. the combat is never actually dynamic. After you've made your build, every encounter feels the same. In part, because so much of the games combat is keeping up buffs, dots, and damage mitigation- and the other is spamming the moves that actually deal damage. It becomes very old very quick, which is why the meaningful content, the content that is fun, work hard to break up this monotony. This content is found in dungeons and trials, where the bosses have specific mechanics which require teamwork. Bosses like the serpent who electrocute the floor or the dwarven spider who poisons the air in the arena requiring you to heal somehow, that is where the game shines.
    But specifically as a tank player, the combat feels monotonous and like im spanking the enemy with a recently cooked spaghetti string.

    • @LuckyGhost
      @LuckyGhost  2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Ive lamented the combat rotation a lot on stream lately and totally agree with this assessment. Mechanics make the encounters fun once you've done your rotation a few times

    I have been playing for about 2 months now and agree that the subscription is 100% worth it, and have to admit that I am very disappointed that I prolly will never have an awesome unique mount for each toon. One thing you failed to point out is how amazingly awesome and inviting the community in the game is, it was so easy to find a beginner friendly guild and people to run dungeons with, who are ok with you learning the mechanics and not being mean about it.

    • @dragonejt
      @dragonejt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are so many free mounts in the game, previously when the Indriks were the even mount you could get a nascent Indriks or evolve it every quarter, so getting a unique fully evolved mount would take two quarters, meaning you could have gotten at least 4 Indriks mounts over two years. Now they have at least one mount per year with the event rewards (this year being the dagonic quasigriff) so there is no shortage of mounts.

    • @hederahelix4600

      Interesting. The reason I left last year after trying the game for about 6 months was that I had the opposite experience. too many people rushing through dungeons, berating lower level players, not stopping for someone who wanted to do the story. I felt stressed out and had no fun in the guilds as there was no communication there at all. Solo content was fun for a while, but the reason I wanted to try an MMO was that I wanted to have some kind of human contact during lockdown.
      It is a stunningly beautiful world though and I just might start it up again, just to ride through it for a while.

Your words are very misleading if not factually wrong. You make the employees sound like they are on minimum wage, yet they are in the top 1% of the earning worldwide. Don't forget, ESO+ gives you the equivalent of the sub in crowns on top of access to everything but the newest expansion, craft bag, 10% xp and dyeing costumes. I'm a casual gamer and this was my first mmorpg... Pre ordered the collectors edition way way back... I clocked in for about maybe 5 months or more of playing(rookie numbers I know)... This game needs a lot, like a lot of learning curve and even if you did learn you'll be brutally punished for it... My first issue right of the bat is gold through quest... 300-400 a pop ain't going to get you nowhere, this game is so selfish in giving gold thru quest that it forces you to grind/gold exploit farming like everyone else... Getting gold is a chore on this game... I keep calling this game gold farming simulator because gold is used on pretty much anything really... 2nd issue why can't all motifs(armor/weapon sets) especially the shitty looking ones be earned by just doing a quest? I'm sure there are some quest that might do that but they are so far in between... You want a cool looking armor? Then go get to grinding that gold baby! I got the best looking armor because I had gold rather than by doing quest... What I wan't is for the quest to give us at least something or any motifs, yes even the shitty ones... I like collecting them and it will feel rewarding if I can earn them thru quest not by gold grinding... Last issue has to be the mount upgrades, I'd just remove them from this game if I were the devs, if you max level the mount speed they just run fast asf that it's almost cartoonish... it breaks immersion when you see all the horse yeeting around like a speed hack or something.

    Wide as an aocean, shallow as a pond. As long as you play very casual its a good game to pick. The moment you start trying more difficult endgame content (or pvp) the inconsitencies show and the lack of bugfixes and extreme balance patches becomes more than annoying.
    I've been playing since beta and I've come to term with having seen it all, this is a good thing there is content for days/months. You'll explore tamriel and experience its stories, what more can you ask from an TES game? (don't answer that).

    My first mmo was Runescape back in 2005 when I was in 5th grade, my second was Guild Wars which I played throughout 2007-2011 or so...then came Guild Wars 2...but it really lacked that dedication to lore and to hardcore small group content (whereas the first Guild Wars had REALLY difficult but rewarding and interesting group content in the form of it's Missions system and it's incredible Dungeons). Guild Wars 2 never really captured that energy of content that you can run in small groups and feel like an absolute BADASS for having completed and have gear or skins etc to be able to show what you have accomplished. So...feeling a bit burned out by GW2 after their Living Story/Living World just got too convoluted and tiresome...and I decided to give ESO a try back in Jan/Feb 2020 (right before Covid hit). It is a GOD-SEND for players who want INCREDIBLY deep lore that you can never get enough of or be a total expert on because it goes so deep as well as for fun build crafting AND for group content which sees regular new content in the form of new Trials and Dungeons...After having played Skyrim as my first Elder Scrolls game back in 2011, I definitely fell in love with the lore and universe and so by the time I picked up ESO, I already knew most of the Elder Scrolls lore and WOW the game does an amazing job despite the limitations of it being an MMO and having to cope with so many players. There is a noticeable difference in quality between vanilla content and DLCs/Expansions...and it just shows they are only getting better at making content shine in ESO. Thought Summerset will always hold a special place for me as being the most gorgeous area in the game :) This is the first game since Runescape YEARS AGO that I felt deserved the subscription fee.
    Though, you should add as well, that a lot of VERY cool mounts have been added over time via events...for free...like the Quasi-Griff recently or all the Indriks for example...I think a lot of them are the coolest mounts...some of the store bought mounts are...too flashy for my taste and don't feel very lore friendly which is at least personally part of my aim in the game. And let me just say, as someone who came from GW2...literally EVERY cool armor or cool items or cool weapon skin or ANY mount skin apart from the defaults were purchasable only. And the base cost of them is often even higher than ESO...in ESO you could at least buy a WHOLE style set whereas in GW2's store you might only be able to buy just a sword skin for like 50 bucks...it's so bad that you can also just buy in game gold with real money...and then buy all the materials needed to build high level or "prestigious" gear like Legendary weapons (sort of like the equivalent of ESO's Antiquities Uniques except they are all flashy and intended to be marks of prestige and achievement). Other MMOs are a fight to be as flashy as possible...or...at least that is part of what made me leave Guild Wars 2...whereas in ESO, while cosmetics are definitely fun and can be very cool looking, the primary thing I see most players caring about is exploring, questing, build crafting, group content, roleplaying, and generally NOT trying to be hyper flashy with their appearance overall (maybe a magical effect or two but that's it). And thank goodness. There is a reason Guild Wars 2 is often jokingly referred to as "Fashion Wars 2" even by its own player base. This creates even more impetus to feel like you SHOULD buy the over priced cosmetics in the store because without buying them, there aren't any real achievements in Guild Wars 2...it's all water under the bridge...just floating on by...inconsequential content which gives you nothing to show for it. And so just to feel like your character is cool or that you are powerful or that you have done something...players buy crap on the Gem Store.
    Despite the problems with the Crown Store...like the loot box mechanic...which I think most players universally hate in games of any kind these days. I am so happy that finally...content has reward and prestige. For example, you cannot get AT ALL gear from a dungeon or trial unless YOU specifically take part in it and conquer it. Likewise, there are certain rare or interesting items found from Antiquities which feel very personal or special to me because you have to go on a journey to find it...certain housing items for example that are rare or difficult to acquire that you cannot just BUY in the in game store. In other words, while I agree that ESO has the same problem as most games these days with microtransactions, I'm really thankful that ZOS at least understands to some frankly large extent that there needs to be rewards that MEAN something that are priceless and must be earned through gameplay only (and which we don't even have to really grind for now since they added in the new looting system for sets).
    Yeah, a lot of the coolest skins are still bought in the store which is frustrating, but the physical gear itself and other rewards have real meaning and make my character feel accomplished, as if my journeys and forays into these dungeons has been rewarded. Perfect example that anyone who has done a lot of dungeoning will understand: Remember your first time trying to defeat Lord Warden in Veteran mode? Or trying to beat Depths of Malatar in Veteran? Getting those monster sets feels so good and like a proper reward for defeating a challenging foe. You can never buy Lord Wardens helmet or Shoulders to receive that very cool purple aoe effect to boost phys and magic resistance...that sort of thing creates real value and prestige that shows what you are capable of defeating. Games like Guild Wars 2 abandoned that concept despite it being a cornerstone of why Guild Wars 1 worked (content like the Domain of Anguish comes to mind...and the VERY challenging group runs of that content to farm end-game items to build the Tormented Weapons set, often seen as the most prestigious and "elite" player's weaponry)...and it led me to ESO :) which brings back those feelings of real accomplishment in an MMO instead of just sandboxing my way to a glowier, fashionable, comet of an outfit so I can blind everyone else in the same 100 person world boss encounter for the 2,000th time to earn no discernably prestigious or purposeful loot or achievement

    I tried it, played for a few hours, thought I’d love it as an elderscrolls fan.
    Was just a god awful experience. Terrible user interface which makes so sense or even tries to make sense. Throws up pages tryna sell you micro currencys, the story makes no sense with the who gates and chains or whatever. They could’ve done the tutorial to the game wayyyy differently.

    From my 6+ years playing I can say that one strength ESO has over many MMOs is the community, not only are they willing to pick up randos, but many are more than willing to give advice, assistance, and at times even something from their inventory(ies) and YES, ESO+ is a must even if you can only afford it for 1 month.

    I still to this day can't get over how poorly the character model looks. The model they choose to mirror for every single race looks awful. The hair looks dated. The clothing looking more like body suits instead of actual clothing is so bad and doesn't even move or flow like actual fabric. The movement, the way the characters look moving around looks incredibly cheesy.

    First I love this channel. one of the best ESO builds comes from Lucky Ghost for solo players. Problem is with the meta builds changing all the time, some sets that you can't get if you have the base game it's not entirely P2W, but it's definitely to some degree going to influence your game for the worst.
    If you don't do Sub or buy the DLC's at some point the set's you run and build your character with will become obsolete. Then you won't be able to do certain content cause you can't push the needed DPS and thus will leave you end up either get a DLC through gifting or swipe the card.
    Though I have bought some DLC and Chapters, because I like the game and is willing to support the Devs to give us more fresh content often enough.

    One thing I have noticed that there has been a lack of players in the game. $$$ is always a factor in any game. Yes agreed by those with the most available credit on your card will have the kewlest look and things. PvP is lacking. But as for PvE it’s the best. As for a PvP based I have not been impressed and I agree with you in this area. One item I have noticed is about ESO is when you purchase the game there is no explanation on what you need (besides base) or anything else to play with others. Like ESO but I only purchased all the games during special sales. That’s when I can say most can afford it. Lucky Ghost one thing I really do appreciate is the honest review of the game. Thank You!

    Only reason holding me back from playing is their monetization practices. The coolest looking weapons, armor sets, mounts AND houses all being locked behind the cash shop is a massive disappointment as someone who spends most of their time collecting stuff like that in mmos and it seems they keep getting worse about that, so I'll never spend a dime on the game.

  • @thomaswiecko24
    @thomaswiecko24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Played since it came out, I hate a lot of mmo and monetization in general, eso is by far the best game ever made. Seriously I hate the ways games usually get money, but it's good value for money here and anything in crown crates you can earn from 'endeavours' daily fun challenges that give you currency to unlock even radiant apex mounts. You can get the best looking mounts in the game in 6 months, entirely bypassing random loot crates. That needs to be pointed out because I don't see that often in other games.
    Well worth giving it a go, where possible the devs listen to the fans and add great value for money (such as free items and discounts for plus members and upcoming content).
    Lots of great info, great video.

    I'm really interested in playing ESO (veteran of wow and a bit of FFXIV) but one thing I didn't quite understand is: to acces all zones, dungeons,etc. You mentioned it needs DLC. You mean the expansions? Are those zones included in the expansions or each zone are separated into dozens of small dlcs?

    • @Ilgazzoo
      @Ilgazzoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The yearly big expansions are buy to play just like in other mmos. Smaller DLC content can also be bought one by one but if you're subscribed you unlock all the DLC for the remainder of your sub. The yearly expansions always contain new big zones while the story DLC usually comes with smaller zones. It's much more logical to subscribe than pay for each individual DLC because even if your sub runs out you still keep everything you've unlocked in those content other than access to the zones themselves. (skill trees and points/collectibles/gear etc.)

One thing that often takes me out of the immersion of the universe (the elder scrolls universe) is when i see somone comes riding with some burning lava horse, and on top of that have some over the top super armor, and then another player comes with something similar, and then another, and another!
    It just dosent feel like the elder scrolls to me, just another mmo.

  • @CeaseEcho
    @CeaseEcho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Well, thanks to the new seal system you can earn seals and buy a new mount or anything else in the cancer crates without spending any money. BUT it takes a very-VERY long time to build up to any amount where you can purchase a special mount. I think they did this for legal reasons and to avoid breaking laws of gambling online in some countries/states. You can earn around 30 seals a day and then on top of that around 250 a week but amounts can fluctuate from week to week and day to day. The crate mounts generally cost anywhere between 3,600 (Legendary) to 16,000 (Radiant Apex) seals. So say you earn around an average of only 350 seals a week because work/life ect it will take you 45 weeks to buy a Radiant Apex mount. So just under a year. Maybe a little less if you're very diligent and make sure to get them done every day.
    The thing is don't expect to collect everything you see in the game. Get only the things you really want. As for crates perhaps tell yourself to buy no more than 15 of them when they are introduced. Any common or fine rewards from crates I would strongly suggest you trade in for gems as it's another way to purchase things you like in the crates. The rewards from common or fine are generally ones you can get from just logging in daily.
    Please remember also the different crates do come back each year so far so you have another chance at what is inside of them. Sometimes they also go on sale along with crowns. It's best to check the website daily or be in a guild that keeps a sharp eye on those things and can alert you. If you're going to put money into anything ESO Plus is a big help and time saver. You get some crowns to spend at the store and they do on occasion put things on sale for ESO Plus members only.

    It's the lack of a direct manual, & how overwhelming the Menus set-up appears, that puts many new players off.
    If not for the community & all the info they provide, that's out there, then many new players would be totally lost.
    I always recommend intro vids, by creators, starting the game from scratch, for anyone interested.. the learning curve starting the game & how to play it can be a nightmare if unexpected. And if not for the support of creators like yourself, & the community at large, this game would be unplayable; as there's no direct manual to refer to as such.
