    It is so much easier if you leave the takedown tool in the guide rod for reassembly. Then slightly take the pressure off and pop the tool out. Then you are not lining up the scratch pin under tension.

    I will agree with him. I had to send mine back due to empty cases getting stuck in the barrel. They reamed the barrel and pinned the extractor, now I have a perfect gun that I trust my life with. I have over 4000 rounds through this gun now and not one flaw after it has been back from Springfield. It is my everyday carry.

      I noticed if I use reloaded ammo, I get the following round stuck in the chamber but not in full battery. After a very difficult process of extracting the live round, I only used fresh manufactured rounds and it is flawless.
      The reloads ran perfectly in all my other 9’s

    I had similar issues about 2 yrs ago. Mine came with a pinned ejector, but Springfield redid the extractor and feed ramp. I have shot over 5k rounds, a mix of HP, flatnose and round nose with no issues at all.

    When using the tool in the guide rod it is best to leave it in until you have the pistol reassembled with the slide stop in place.

      Absolutely agree. Removing the retaining tool is my last step in reassembly.

    I bought one 2 years ago. First thing I did was try to load hollow points. It would not load a single round. I immediately reached out to Springfield and was told that I could either send it back, or run a bunch of practice rounds through it. I opted to run a bunch of practice rounds through it, to wear it in. It worked fine for about 150 rounds, then would not load any round I tried. Sent it back to Springfield, and was told it would be 3-6 weeks for repairs. Unacceptable!!!! My current carry weapon is a Hellcat Pro. I love it, and would prefer to get my $ back on the EMP.... I'm in week 1 of my 3-6 week wait.....🤮

    First, I'd like to comment you on your excellent presentation. I also have this gun, and I have not fired it very often. The few times I have fired the pistol I was impressed with the accuracy. When I acquired the gun, I was warned that if I did not put the pin back on properly [which you so well explained], I would scratch it. I didn't buy the gun because it was pretty; I bought it because it fit my hand perfectly. But since it is so pretty, I don't want to mar it in any way. Thumbs up!

    Purchased one a month ago and after a 500 round session, it went back to Springfield. I cleaned it before shooting and at the 250 count. Using quality ammo from pmc ball and Speer gold dots in 115gr. Trijicon doesn’t make sights for the EMP, so I asked Springfield if the tritium sights used on the EMP 3 could be installed on my 4. $175 for sights and installation and $35 for shipping.
    So you sell a $1200 pistol that doesn’t work, I’m without my $1200 investment for a month so far and you want to charge me for installation and shipping!
    I plan on retiring this year and moving far away from Phoenix. Far enough that I could retire my Glocks and carry this EMP. I’ll be selling it when I get it back.

    Do you know if you can replace the fiber optic site with a regular night site or not and what would fit .would it be the same as an XDS or some of the other Springfields?

    • @ShootWellAndOftenSWAO
      @ShootWellAndOftenSWAO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Danny Butler yes you can change them. I would have to search for different options. I know you could send the slide in to Springfield and they can install a front tritium sight as well as their combat low mount fixed rear sight. That is a pretty good combo.

    When did you get the gun...or when was it manufactured. I’m wanting to purchase and wonder if it was an old problem? How did you determine the issue??

    • @ShootWellAndOftenSWAO
      @ShootWellAndOftenSWAO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Springfield denies the problem ever exist so there is probably no way to know if they have changed or not. Date was 2017
      As some have stated you can use a paper clip for the tool.

      BIG LOU - sweet Thank You!! That’s the deciding factor for me. I don’t mind if they stick out a little bit. Looks like it’ll be just the baseplate anyway. I was actually looking at the all stainless steel 10 rounders from Wilson Combat. They are a little pricier but from what I can see & from what I’ve heard they are very well made. They even have a tumbled finish which helps on reload and lets them drop free even while empty.

    • @62dobie
      @62dobie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanMar5858, the mags for the EMP ONLY work with the EMP. They are proprietary to Springfield EMP only.

      That's strange. I've never heard of an extractor being glued in as a solution.

    • @ShootWellAndOftenSWAO
      @ShootWellAndOftenSWAO  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Triggerati SA glues them from factory. Pinning is the way they fix it.

    • @DanMar5858
      @DanMar5858 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shoot Well And Often. SWAO! This thread talks about the “Ejector” being glued not the “Extractor” they are two totally different things. I’ve never owned a 1911 so I don’t know if they actually have an “extractor” or not. I do know that AR15’s have both. So maybe you can answer the question for me or maybe ask on the 1911 forum since I’m not a member. I would just like some clarification. It’s a bit confusing because an Extractor is actually a spring loaded moving part. Like I’ve seen some 1911’s with an external extractor and to me that makes perfect sense. Maybe I’m over thinking??

      Shoot Well And Often. SWAO! - Do you know who makes a Night sight that would fit this pistol? The TruGlo TFX would be the best of both worlds if they make one that fits the EMP4. Tritium and Fiber Optic that won’t fall out, all in a single package!!!

    • @ShootWellAndOftenSWAO
      @ShootWellAndOftenSWAO  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know Dawson Precision does a front sight specific tritium sight for the EMP. I have also heard that the EMP 3 3 dot tritium sights work for the EMP4.
      As far as the truglos ...the last I heard they dont have a set that fits without milling out the dovetail a bit. But you may contact them to see if that has changed.
