I've carried the EMP9 for about 8 years now. I did send the gun back to SA to get the ramp polished and ejector filed down, as it was stovepiping. Havent had an issue with it since. I also changed the grips, as I didn't want to ruin the stock wood grips by carrying. Went with gray VZ Grips as they tend to blend well with jeans. Thanks for the review.
Love my EMP3 9..perfect gun..well balanced..great sights and trigger..also the recoil is very minimal..This 1911 was built for the 9 from the ground up..
You Hickok45, and Rob Leatham talked me into buying an EMP 9. I need to get it to the range. I already have the Crossbreed holster for it and I'm going to pick up some more Sig Vcrown ammo for it. Plan is to put it on my permit here in California, to replace my 442 J frame that let me down. I think I'll pick up some of those grips as well, I dig em.
First range visit and the EMP shot flawlessly through 150 rounds of Winchester white box 124 grain and two boxes of Sig V Crown defensive ammo in 124 grain. Next step is to qualify and put him on my permit since the lil EMP is proving to be reliable.

I purchased the EMP with the .40 cal. Love the look and have had very few problems with feeds in shooting. Number 1 complaint is the enormous tension with the slide. I figured it would loosen up after a few hundred rounds, but it hasn't in the least. Still a major 'powerful' pull to rack one in the chamber.
I love that pistol! my gun store told me that if you barely missed the rebate date for the magazines witch is February 1st to June 30th. That if you called springfield they would honor the deal. But Idk... Those grips are awesome great video.
I got my first 3.0 a little over a year ago. Day I picked it up, first mag down range @ 10 yards, outta the box were all "X" .. I'd share the pix but there is no option to do that. Liked it so much, I added the 4.0 to the collection shortly there after. Actually just got home from today's watch n put her back in the safe. My edc along with my XDs's.

I have both the Springer EMP, bought it the first week it hit the stores,... & the Colt "Defender". I have every size 1911made. It's hard to decide which one I like best, the EMP or the Defender, as I love the .45acp & the 9mm cartridge. Both fit in the same holster, the Defender just being a tad wider. Those 2 three incher 1911's is what I carry the most. I left the Springer as is, the Defender I put a nice pair of Houge King wood wrap around finger groove grips on it. I'm not a big fan of rubber or Tupperware guns. The accuracy on both are superb for 3"ers. I like to mix things up, & I do carry other metal handguns, but those 2 are the best for carry. I just ask myself do I want a 10 shot 9mm today, or an 8 shot .45 today, with a 8 or 10 shot extra mag, as all other 1911 mags fit the Defender. The ONLY thing I don't like is ambidextrous safety's,...period. of all my 1911's only my government Smith & Wesson, true blued target model & the EMP have them. I have had that ambi safety knocked off twice on the EMP & I use a Desanti "Cozy Partner IWB, & an El Passo Saddelry "Tortilla" thumb break OWB holster. Both very high end well made holsters. That's the only negative, don't care about you lefty's, & I was married to one. They have all figured out how to live in a right hand world. My Ex was almost ambidextrous herself. Got rid of her, now if I can just get that damn abomination off of my EMP & I will be a happy man. Test the Defender, you'll love it !
Bought emp9 about a year ago as a carry gun. Have over 400 rounds through and not ONE mag. emptied without jamming. I hear i can send it back and they can reshape ramp. Hope it works because other than that, love the pistol
I love mine 96% of the time. It jambs enough that I'm skeptical. I sent it back to the factory and it's improved; but, still doesn't always cycle. Almost 500 rounds and am hoping it eventually performs like my Sig. I really like it other than that. 😊
Nice review, I have the EMP in four inch and three inch. Only thing I don't like about the three inch is the bottom of the back strap digs into my palm. But as you say there isn't a lot of recoil so its not too bad. Wilson makes a mainspring housing that's beveled on the bottom. I want to try one of those out.
Bought one a couple of months ago and have put about 800 rounds through it with no problems. However be sure to buy the two tone, I bought the all black because I have a two tone pro carry, anyway the black model comes with fiber optic sights and none of the night sights will fit it, Springfield mills the slide at 60 degrees as the rest of the gunmakers use 65 degrees. Also it does not come with a flush fitting magazine and they told me they have no plans on making one. Sounds like a small thing except wen you try to conceal it and find it either prints or snags. Lastly, when I went to take the grips off to give it a real cleaning all the grip screws were loose, mainly because whoever put it together screwed the inserts in too far, so when he tightened the screws it jammed the magazines. I also ended up replacing all the screws and inserts because of their poor quality. This is a very expensive pistol and although I love shooting it I will probably never buy another Springfield.

The original cocobolo grips it comes with are slim line. Did you have any issues installing the new nice loud orange grips you have on it, when it comes to the grip screws? Did you have to get new longer grip screws? I’m assuming the orange grips are thicker then the originals from Springfield. So I’m wondering if you had to get different grip screws to make the new grips work or not. Thanks brother hope to hear from you soon. Take care.

I'm new to shooting and so my request may be unreasonable......when you review the "feel" of the particular firearm in your hand, would it be possible to give us your impression after you fire say the initial few rounds? It would require a more private area for shooting but it would be an invaluable critique of any given prospective purchase! I looked over handguns, was given little to no advice but the ergonomics alone led me to purchase a WALTHER CCP 9mm! I'm not sorry but I rely on people like you to help in understanding the many aspects of the gun you're reviewing! Sorry for the ramble!!!!! I'm now a subscriber!

I, absolutely, loved this gun until I emailed springfield and they said they do not recommend +p ammo because it tends to cause cycling issues. Will prob contact them again soon just to make sure. What ammo do you use for EDC?
I love this gun! I do not know at what point I lost the pin that holds the front sight. I got a new one and put it back but it came off the first time I shot it. I had to re-glue the sight with epoxy in addition to the pin.
This is a great gun if you have small hands. I held one today and didn't like it because my bottom fingers were falling off. I didn't like the way holding it felt.
ALl 1911 models MUST have the barrel throated CORRECTLY as to allow the proper feeding and ejection of all ammunition regardless, even reloads...also carefully check and clean your magazines and look for anything abnormal which could cause a stoppage...
I just buying this week..I love this gun.but first 200 round away stuck firing pin..jams. failure to fire...hiccup...and try to shooting last night 150 round no jam no failure..but only 9 time no silde lock..this gun sight is shooting 6 O'clock? or center mass? thanks

Hey thanks for the video. Im considering getting one of these EMPs. In my crappy state its tough to get a good 1911. A lot of them are not on the approved list. Im really curious to know if you still have this EMP? Have you had any issues of any kind with it? Thank you for your time
No. The actually grip is shorter but the base plate makes it about the same height. It has the same capacity as the CCC that has a flush fit. I personally like having the base plate compared to other 1911's I have using the flush fit
Ok Ks you and 1776 are my go to gun guys...so today I shot a EMP CCC (concealed carry contour).4...loved it..very accurate...nice trigger ...thinking about getting it...or at least putting on layaway lol...what so you think about the cost vs value of this gun...they selling it for $849... Was purchased before but never shot...what do you think for that price?
I had a EMP4 and it was flawless and amazing. Then traded it for the smaller EMP black coat model and it sucked! Light primer strikes on both cheap ammo AND good ammo. And failure to lock slide on last round. I may have just had a lemon but still if my EMP4 was flawless why wasn't my emp black. Anywho I sold it and a few other guns and got a dan Wesson Valkyrie. Never looked back.

When you shoot numerous rounds into the same target without pulling the target back to see where your hitting, how does that help you know where you are actually hitting the target🤔🤔

After Springfield Armory's betrayal, I'm no longer going to subscribe to channels that feature them, or Rock River. Let them feel the heat! If we stick it to them together, they won't be able to sell their foreign made junk for $5.
In truth, you're only hurting gun channels. Springfield doesn't care. Oh and this was made prior to the whole "betrayal" thing. Also, that means you are unsubbing from basically every gun channel out there. Cheers

Solid vid, great insight. I just purchased mine. Living in Comifornia, this gun is hard to come by. Looking forward to having this as an EDC option.
I've decided I'm gonna get one of these. The grips you put look nice but in my opinion the stock grips still look a little better. Personal preference

It would have been nice to be able to see how your groups were from all the shots you took at the paper targets.

I really love mine, but I CANNOT get through even one magazine without malfunction. Ejecting and loading both. Very frustrating for an EDC

That's a great price for that hamdgun, the emp4s are normally 1000 or more from what I've seen
I went with the springfield Hellcat instead. The gun is a bit too large for me.
