anyone getting ready to do this job, needs to read this first. ignore taking everything apart inside the truck. all you have to do is get a long 24" big screwdriver and push up on the old vent then gently pry the bottom snaps out and pull the old vent off. if you worry about the paint just wrap the screwdriver with tape. slide the new vent up into place using screwdriver to be sure the top end snap is in first, then snap in the bottom by pushing it in. it is not hard to do at all and i was able to do both of my vents in 5 minutes from start to finish.
Swapped mine out today. Took longer to remove/install the seats than to do the fix. Thanks a ton for this video. You saved me a lot of $$. I changed the center tail light, too.
Thanks. I spent two years chasing a leak. I did mine and it stopped right away. I just loosened the seat and moved it forward. Pulled the plastic trim and popped it out. I laid under the truck and slide it up and in then went in side and pulled it into position with pliers. Thanks again!!!
Thank you for this video! I’ve been chasing a leak for over a year. When the truck is parked flat or on a up hill slant, it doesn’t leak. Our driveway slants up by about 5-8 degrees. When I back it up hill and it rains it fills the wire run on the drivers side floor Big time! It all started when I installed the tonneau cover. I just did a test on it and the water came right in while it was on a flat surface. Thanks again as I just got the 07 back in 2017 and it is rust free!
Thank you so much. My 07 classic has been sitting in a warehouse since 07 I've been getting the bees nest out of the exterior body parts for a few months and noticed that one of these was missing when cleaning. I'm on it.
I've got the exact same year and model... single cab, short bed and the 4.3L vortec, i recently replaced the electric fuel pump using the bed tilt method, i noticed my drivers side cab vent was missing just about all its flaps but one, figure the other side is shot too, im going to replace them both as soon as i can, and this video helped alot on how to.
Very helpful. I have my 2003 gutted right now installing sound deadening. Mine don’t look bad but I’m going to replace them anyway while I have everything out.
Just figured this out the other day. I found what the problem is with 3rb breaklamp. After a long period of time it begins to bow from the heat etc. bought aftermarket along with extra gasket and put some silicon to seal and it worked perfectly. Gonna get these replacements and hopefully I am done
How did you get those black inner vent snorkels out. On the inboard portion it just pushes/pulls onto a threaded stud but I can figure out how to fully remove. Talking about the portion of that black plastic vent directly opposite the cab vent on the inside. I know I can just pop off the cab vent from the outside and slip a new one on from underneath but I want to clean the outer cab real good prior to replace new vent and seems best way is to remove that inner black vent housing/snorkel piece. Been f-ing with it for 30 minutes and still haven’t got it fully removed. Thanks either way if you can help
Just did this very thing earlier today, both sides while also installing new rear pillar spkrs, figure do it all at once... out with the old, in with the new. 2005 gmc sierra 1500 scsb
Do you know why we even have these vents in the back of the cab in the first place? What excatly are we venting? If anything we get water, exhaust fumes and cold/hot air entering , im thinking of sealing mine completely, what do you think?
These are more for pressure relief I believe. Vehicles nowadays are built so water tight 🤣 that air pressure builds from the ac being on, or from when you shut the door. These flaps relieve the pressure. I could see them open when I turned the ac on full blast and they would almost close when off. That's for watching
john Vallejo these vents are to realease preasure from cab some times the weather can be extremly hot and the windows are glass so if u dont have these vents when u slam the door the windows could break cab needs preasure realease thats the purpose of them
I have the same problem with my 2008 ; wet floor from back to front floor. How did you dry it? did you have to remove all the seats to get all the carpet padding dried out? Was it difficult?
Thank you very much for making this video. I recently purchased a 2007 Silverado Classic and found a lot of water in the floor after the first rain storm. Is the rear seat very hard to get out?
No need to take the interior apart. Watch the video on my channel. Use something long and smack the top of the vent from the outside. It falls out. Snap the new one in from the bottom.
The GMT400 line did not have these vents... Id weld 2 plates over the hole inside and out to eliminate this leak point, mines cracked that way, and i will do cyclops light and door seals on my 07 classic
Just FYI, crawled under the truck and reached up and felt the vents in mine. One had no rubber flaps at all, the other was missing one flap. As I touched it another fell off.
I have the same leak...soaked all the way to the driver and passenger front floor board. Dealer said it's the 3rd brake light, but I ran a hose over the vent and saw water running down the door threshold. Dealer also said that they would have to remove the bed to change these out. Going to replace the 3rd brake light and the cab vents. Again, thanks for doing this video.
@@michalwells I can't believe they were gonna charge to remove the bed. I work for a dealer, and it's just downright ridiculous to quote that. You saw how easy it was. If it were to come in my shop, I would have charged 1 hour for diag, and depending if the customer wanted to take the carpet out and clean it or not, an additional 2-3 hours.
@@idaman71044 the driver side is nice and tight but the passenger side is lose but i have a big car audio system so I'm going to seal them both off on thursday and yes the leak is only coming from the passenger side i didn't see any other leaks

Yeah I still need to reinstall my back seat 🤷♂️ I've been busy lol
Thanks for the video; It was very helpful; I was able to get the new vents installed pretty easy from underneath the truck.
Thanks. I spent two years chasing a leak. I did mine and it stopped right away. I just loosened the seat and moved it forward. Pulled the plastic trim and popped it out. I laid under the truck and slide it up and in then went in side and pulled it into position with pliers. Thanks again!!!

Is this air vent mandatory? The
Flapping noise when I turn my subs up is aggravating
That was simple 👍 thanks

You can pry out the old ones from the outside bottom with a screwdriver.
Then pop in new.

my 2019 silverado has the same leak. Sad GM has never fixed this.
Having your truck rust out is good for GM's business.

Are you sure the water is entering from these vents and not elsewhere? These trucks were prone to leaking in several different places.

This should be a TSB for exhaust fumes
I mean we have windows afterall for fresh air venting
