So I’m back to let you know our Yukon has gone through 3 car washes 4 rain storms and AMAZING thing. Everything is still dry and working PERFECTLY!!! I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR YOUR THOROUGH VIDEO! this is the “FIX” that no one other than you has figured out! Chevy/ gmc should had you a check for 10 million dollars. I guarantee they are using new materials in the future cause of you finding the cause. I will be your first supporting person if you want to do a class action law suit for millions of people who have gone through this nightmare.
I just opened mine up today. I will re-seal it tomorrow. One question. Did you have what looks like a black drain tube leading to that mesh area under the plastic cap? I am thinking it is the drain from my sunroof, not sure what it is though.
Took the 30 minutes to fix in 2005 2500 HD. Checked with water hose and it rained the next day, passenger side dry as my mother in laws you know what. Great post.
Hey I fixed mine's and when this storm came through Texas Saturday morning I was really went and check for damping my shit was dry .thank you pop's👍.had the suburban 06 z71 for 2 years I'm the second owner and I was tired of this beautiful truck with water on the floor board.you truly regained my confidence in my truck thanks a lot sir
Shoot yeah. It's been raining in Tennessee for what feels like a month straight and the Hoe' is squishy. I'll attack that issue tomorrow. Thank you sir. Nice detective work!
2005 Yukon is what he is working on. GM changes the arrangement of these items from time to time, and from the GMC to the Chevy versions. Great job showing us the solution to this common problem. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Thank you sir!!! Almost identical problem/fix in my 2001 Lincoln Town Car as well. This leak in my 2004 Yukon is what has been leading my blower motors to begin failing, then drawing too many amps, then melting connectors, then buying new motors. You've made my day!!
Thanks Philip! I have been dealing with this for about a year with a wet blower motor resister( about 5 of them ) just pulled the plastic piece out and the seal looked just like yours. Cleaned all areas and double bead of “ flex seal “ in the tube. Made sure it pushed out at every corner and side. Then used my finger to make sure there is a curved edge from over the top and an inch around the bottom to make sure there will be NO leak from this piece. Re-assembled with new resister and put it all back together. An hour ago it rained for 20 minutes, but there is supposed to be a big down fall of rain tonight in 3-ish-to5-ish range this morning. Hoping it is really bad just so I can run the Yukon and have it go through the paces of floor, mid, face, defrost, high, low and everything in-between. This would be the last thing since I have had everything else repaired that cost thousands, but I’m also thinking 110% positive that you have showed the cure to this problem from all the other people ( people with common sense and use at least part of there brain ) on here that have had the same issue. I will do a follow up message once it has rained bad and then I will send my wife ( my wife’s Yukon )through a drive through car wash to make sure NO WATER on floor or burning out the “front climate controls” via a/c blower motor resistor.
Thanks for posting this. I had the same problem on a 2005 2500 hd . I used 3M weather strip sealant. I found if you reach in threw the other hole you can remove covers clips without damage. Great info here people!
Yes! Thank you for this video. Found multiple leaks in my 08 Sierra once I started looking but was still having front firewall water intrusion. This was a great place to get started tackling that. Thank you for taking the time to make a video. This was fantastic.
Great video. My 2005 suburban was taking on water like the titanic when it rained. It would fill the passenger side and even soak all the way to the rear passenger floor area. When I finally removed my panel, there was no sealant at all at the top edge of it. I used a heat gun to get the factory foamy sealant off the panel and reinstalled it with silicone sealant. Real quick repair once you know where to look. Thanks
I just wanted to give you a huge thank you for posting this. I had a blower resistor module go bad on a 2004 avalanche and had thought it was moisture accumulation from a clogged condenser drain. After watching your video I looked where the intake cover should be, and it was COMPLETELY MISSING! The previous owner had evidently thrown it away when it was loose. *head smack* Looks like I'll be RTVing a custom-made cover in place.
Thank you Philip! Very generous of you to share your discovery. GM should be held responsible for not alerting owners, this is a widespread problem since the 1990's at least. Dampness breeds mold and illness. Of course GM only wants the vehicle to last 5 years so why perfect them?
Thank you so much for this informative video! I've been frustrated for almost two years trying to figure out where the water on the passenger side floorboard was coming from. All I knew was that if I took out the Weathertech floor mat the carpet would dry. Put the Weathertech floor mat back in, carpet would get wet. For those of you experiencing this problem you must pull the carpet up and away to allow the jute carpet pad to dry first! I found it almost impossible to cut the jute out so I propped it up and let it dry naturally over several days. Instead of removing the plastic cover on top of the firewall as shown in this video (I didn't want to run the risk of damaging it) I simply cleaned all around it then applied a heavy bead of silicone around the edge, waited an hour then tested it by pouring water around it. I also went through the carwash and no more leaking! To see how to easily remove the wiper arms after removing the nut holding them in place, watch this video - th-cam.com/video/RvXltkEfHOw/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, just saved me a lot of trouble shooting trying to figure out why my carpet is wet after a car wash and heavy rain fall. carpet wet from top under glove box all the way to under the front seat. g.m. really needs to step up and recall some of there problems they have made for us.
Thanks a lot, my 09 pick up has been driving me crazy with this problem. Paid one shop 100.00 dollars, said it was an a/c drain line. Nope! carpet was still wet after a week. A friend of mine that owns a body shop pointed me at this to check. Went to you tube first, glad i did.
I have a 96 Sierra which continually received a drenched floor on the passenger side after rain. I removed the carpet and put a bucket in the floorboard which revealed the water to be coming in from under the glovebox. That's just below this panel you're discussing in this video. Thank you! Now I know what I need to do to fix this issue and hopefully reinstall my carpet after I've confirmed it's fixed.
Had this exact same problem with my 04 Tahoe. This fixed my leak problem. Odd that they would have a piece of plastic to cover a big hole like that. Why have the hole there to begin with!! Anyway, Big thanks Philip. :)
Thank you so much. This was the culprit on my 2011 Suburban 1500/4WD. Little bit different shape on my model but same bad Chevy design but pretty easy fix. And I just left mine in place and ran silicon around the edge. We'll see how it holds up over time.
yes I thought I was the only one with that bad leak in my 08 GMC Sierra but I see GMC has failed us this is very embarrassing and time-consuming to deal with so thanks for the info
Good Deal, Video Been Up Five Years Plus And Still Going Strong. I Checked It Out On My 2013 Yukon And Sure Thing It Needed Some Seal On It. Thanks Phillip
Thank you so much for taking the time to post. I have a 96 GMC Z-71 that has that slight "annoying" leak in the passenger side floorboard when it rains. Will be performing these checks today. Again, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the great video. I replaced my blower control module from Amazon for 16 bucks for my 2002 Silverado. The replacement looks better than the factory. Now I know where to go look to seal the leak so it doesn't damage this new one.
this is a great video for the people that can't get their wiper arms off you can take the Torx screw out and remove the two clips closest to the cover and are able to pick up shroud enough to clean with alcohol then put on rubber glove and smear silicone with hand
Definitely doing this today. I've already gone thru 3 or 4 resistors. I noticed water dripping straight from the connector on the resistor. Blew my mind on what it could be.
Definitely going to try this this weekend. Wish I would've seen the video before we just had 2 days of hard rain and calling for another tomorrow but better late than never. Also should mention that the modules are a pain in the butt because you have to splice the one from the auto parts store in. They're not a direct replacement but if you've already done it once then the other times after that plugs right in lol. Already replaced mine 3 times and blower motor once and fixing to have to again
Thus guy is great!!! Not only did he solve my leak issue on my silverado, but he sounds pretty close to the king of the hill guy too. Awesome!!! Thanks for the help.
I have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe same dilemma! Wet carpet, blown fan speed module, I thought my ac drain tube was clogged, clean it out. Same problem continued and another blown fan speed module again. Yes water would accumulate after rain storm. Thank you!!! Awesome, great information, as well as comments! Guess what I’m doing next?
man, thank you, now i have some direction i get water on both sides of my floor so im hoping its all the same leak, i just took out my seats and console and carpet cus mold was starting, im ready to get my truck sealed up so i can start enjoying it again cus i love riding in the rain and parking by some water and storm watching.
Thanks much Sr,I got a 2011 Chevy Cruze, this video give me the idea how to Fix the problem, after a really heavy rain for days, got passenger Floor full of water all the way back to the rear driver side Floor, looks like a Chevy still have the mooron that design this failures under contract, shame on you general motors, shame on you.
This works. On the 88 to 99 C/K1500 these ducts are on the firewall facing forward toward the grill, passenger side is directly to the left of the overflow reservoir and held in by two 7mm bolts. Mine was crammed tight with pine needles, leaves and dirt. Don't park under trees folks!!
Thank you so much. I've been having this issue on my 'Burban for a while. Driving me nuts!!! I was in the right area. Didn't bother to check that cover though. Thanks again!!
l just wanted to give you a huge thank you for posting this. I had a blower resistor module go bad on a 2004 suburban 4 times after your video l could fix it ,thanks a lot
Thanks for this post...i'm sure this is the fix...most of the other posts didn't have the water coming from the air box which is where I have seen the water coming from..
old glassman here. To get stuck wiper arms off......hold them up then just tap on it a little, on the arm or around the nut with a wood tool handle or a nylon mallet. Then just try to wiggle it off.....dont force anything..
My 2004 Aval leak is under door panel passenger side. it even blew off my sunroof relay on passenger corner panel. I'm guessing is weather striping. I will also check the issues you talked about ! TY.
This holds true, my 05 Silverado was same. Before sealing the cap looked fine, looked like paint was sealed but it was not. it was filling the blower fan full of water lol Some silicone and flex tape to cover it and it's now fixed. I flashed it with rubber flex tape "like a 7x13 piece" up under windshield a bit so when it's parked the water just runs over entire plastic cap completely.
Thank you SO SO much. I am willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that this is the exact problem I am having. And like you said it is only on the passenger side ! I will let you know when I get a chance to look at it. Thanks for the video and have a great day.
My 04 avalanche just started leaking and looking up the blower motor hole while it was raining, the cap there did indeed have a drop of water on one of the plastic tangs on the lid and wetness around the outer edge. Gonna try this today and see if it stops. Appreciate the tip.
+Flanker84 My 96 Silverado has been leaking for years. After a huge storm here in S. Fla. I pulled up my carpets, and drilled drain holes in the floorboards. I don't believe our 2 trucks have this flap, but if you found a solution, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me if/how you did it . Thanks
Check cab vents on rear of cab from inside of truck the weather stripping cracks, 3rd brake light seal. If cab vents leak, either replace them or have plates brazed in.
My 2007 silverado also has that cheap plastic cover. Wasnt leaking, but i did open it to vacuum inside that mesh on air intake. I resealed with silicone.
well 3 years old post but I just went through car wash and water came dripping out fan below passenger dash. It blew the resistors in the fan module so I only have high speed fan. So I could not get my wipers off. Did not want to break them. But I lifted enough to look at that lid. I did not try to remove it/ I got an air hose in the other opening on right and blew out both ends from inside out of those flappers. Left side was clogged pretty good.Pine needles and such. I also just ran a bead of silicone along the top of that lid. I dont think it was getting in the lid. I think water was getting in the other opening and there is a kind of wall in there. Water drains out the flapper. But if it cant get out it will rise above that wall and out that screen area and then drip on the fan and controls.. We will see. I have new resistor pack on order from amazon. I will update after a few rains and car-washes... I propped the flappers up so they stay up. Not sure it I should do that but I want the crap to run out and not get caught in there again. its a 2006 silverado I have..
Thanks for the info. I had the same issue on my 05 Trailblazer but was a pinched sunroof drain. Just bought a 03 GMC 2500HD (no sunroof) and blower motor and resistor were no good. Then notice water after rain, assuming this is the issue.
good to see a fellow texan on here actually theres tons, but anyways i have a 95 Z71 and I'm replacing everything trying to make it nice again and i put new carpet in it this summer its now december and my carpet is wet on the passenger side,i have actually seen quite a bit of people saying its this box so tomorrow I'm going to orielly and buying some black adhesive and well maybe two tubes and putting it to it man,i am so pissed, and here with cold weather it will take forever to dry.it actually snowed the other day,yea haha dec-6th i believe, take care phil, like the ground hog,yea like the ground hog haha sorry movie quote ground hogs day.later
I had the same problem but my leak was from the roof mounted brake light. The foam gasket wore out and water was leaking in and settling on the inside ceiling panel and then draining to the front and running down the front windshield corner post and coming out around the heater box. I discovered it when I heard the water sloshing around up there during a hard rain. Once I replaced the light fixture and sealed it with silicone the problem stopped.
Thanks, never considered that condition but will certainly check to avoid fixing headliner again. Using a large syringe and small tubing I've injected water direct into sky light drains and no wet carpet. Pretty certain this cover is the problem as I see blower motor and motor control he talks about has been replaced recently. I did check the 2 antenna parts between sun roof and windshield and they seem tight and sealed up. Frustrating, but I did just buy the clean, '04, Z71, Burb. Emergency brake cable may be a smaller leak on driver side.
Had to do exactly the same thing on a 96 Cadillac Fleetwood. Now, if I could just figure out where the leak is on the driver’s side. There’s a rust streak just forward of the fuse panel and the carpet is damp. Hoping I just missed some debris in the cowl drain but I sealed the crap out of the plastic cowl so I need to figure out how to get at them from below.
I've been having trouble with my 08 silverado with really wet carpet. Windshield replaced couple years ago and it still looks great. one thing to my cowl will not seal to the windshield. warped. Think it either time to replace or weather strip adhesive to windshield shield.
I have a 2005 Avalanche 1500, and of course a wet passenger side carpet every time it rains! The cover for the air intake was my problem, and that's after taking it to my local dealer twice! Head slap is right! My first the mechanic told me he blew air into the AC Drain and it "should" be fixed! Well it wasn't back we go to check further. Here is the break down of what the dealer charged me. 262.50 Labor, New cover 47.13, 15.00 G.O.G.?, 18.38 Misc chg., 20.68 tax and your grand total from your friendly local dealer 363.59. The part looks to be worth about 5.00$
This was not the final fix either. Looking down the road a bit I'm still having the problem!! Now it seems I have a small break in the rear glass ( the one that comes out) so I have it replaced and looking very close I see the window is not sealing the gasket. I put in a new one. It goes on and on.......

Did you had a leak on your passenger side carpet?
Hey I fixed mine's and when this storm came through Texas Saturday morning I was really went and check for damping my shit was dry .thank you pop's👍.had the suburban 06 z71 for 2 years I'm the second owner and I was tired of this beautiful truck with water on the floor board.you truly regained my confidence in my truck thanks a lot sir
Shoot yeah. It's been raining in Tennessee for what feels like a month straight and the Hoe' is squishy. I'll attack that issue tomorrow. Thank you sir. Nice detective work!

I wish I would've found this video years ago!!!! I have been going crazy trying to figure this damn leak out. Well done sir, well done.

Thanks for posting this. I had the same problem on a 2005 2500 hd . I used 3M weather strip sealant. I found if you reach in threw the other hole you can remove covers clips without damage. Great info here people!
My 07 escalade is leaking @ the glove box thanks for the info
Yes! Thank you for this video. Found multiple leaks in my 08 Sierra once I started looking but was still having front firewall water intrusion. This was a great place to get started tackling that. Thank you for taking the time to make a video. This was fantastic.

Paid one shop 100.00 dollars, said it was an a/c drain line. Nope! carpet was still wet after a week.
A friend of mine that owns a body shop pointed me at this to check.
Went to you tube first, glad i did.
Just when I think that I've pluged everything so that water doesn't get in my truck, I find this! (Life saver)

Thank you SIR!!!! I've been looking high and low for why I'm taking water into my blower motor recently.
Have the exact vehicle 05 Yukon Denali , been through 4 resistors in the last year. Fixing this tomorrow.👍 Great video and knowledge.
i ve been tru 2 and i found water stains on them every time well I know now where it comes from
Had this exact same problem with my 04 Tahoe. This fixed my leak problem. Odd that they would have a piece of plastic to cover a big hole like that. Why have the hole there to begin with!! Anyway, Big thanks Philip. :)
Finally a video for this. Same problem that drove me nuts for years!

yes I thought I was the only one with that bad leak in my 08 GMC Sierra but I see GMC has failed us this is very embarrassing and time-consuming to deal with so thanks for the info
Was your leaking directly into the vent and running down getting your carpet wet from underneath
Good Deal, Video Been Up Five Years Plus And Still Going Strong. I Checked It Out On My 2013 Yukon And Sure Thing It Needed Some Seal On It. Thanks Phillip
Thank you sir. I've been tracking down leaks for the past week. Rear cab light, vents and now this. Thank you sir!
Thanks for this video. You've explained how to resolve this issue the best of what I've watched on Utube
Thank you so much for taking the time to post. I have a 96 GMC Z-71 that has that slight "annoying" leak in the passenger side floorboard when it rains. Will be performing these checks today. Again, thanks for sharing!

much thanks, i have been through 3 blower fans and 1 circuit resistor. i just finished my repairs and you where exactly right. THANKS
Definitely doing this today. I've already gone thru 3 or 4 resistors. I noticed water dripping straight from the connector on the resistor. Blew my mind on what it could be.

This was exactly the issue on my suburban. Siliconed it shut and no more leak. So glad he made this video! Thanks
Thus guy is great!!! Not only did he solve my leak issue on my silverado, but he sounds pretty close to the king of the hill guy too. Awesome!!! Thanks for the help.
Great video....Also check the air pressure vents/baffles assy. behind cab for water leaking (2006 single cab LT).

Thank you so much. I've been having this issue on my 'Burban for a while. Driving me nuts!!! I was in the right area. Didn't bother to check that cover though. Thanks again!!
Great video, helped me find my leak, mine was actually the body seam sealant at the hinge. Who would have thought?!
Thank you very much for sharing this video. I've just had my second resistor fail in ten years and was wondering how water was getting in.
Thanks Philip, I have an leaky problem in my 2003 Cadillac Escalade blower motor side too.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! We have been going crazy trying to figure this out!
Thanks Phillips for the tip it, it solved my water leak by watching you video.🎯
Thank you very much sir for this video. I now know why water is getting into my blower motor.
Thanks for the video, this is probably the same problem I have on my Yukon, I definitely going to access the panel to fix the leak.
l just wanted to give you a huge thank you for posting this. I had a blower resistor module go bad on a 2004 suburban 4 times after your video l could fix it ,thanks a lot
Thank you 1000% you we're a huge huge help thank God for videos in people like you thank you again very well appreciated
Thanks, you nailed it sir.Had wet carpet for past 2 winters and smoked heater controls.Tried your fix and dry ever since
You're amazing man, i had the exact same problem. Thanks so much for the detailed breakdown and explanation!
Before sealing the cap looked fine, looked like paint was sealed but it was not. it was filling the blower fan full of water lol
Some silicone and flex tape to cover it and it's now fixed.
Very informative...my 2005 Yukon is doing the same exact thing. Now I know what to do...Thank you so much for the video.
Nailed it!!!!. Fixed my 2014 Silverado
Thanks a lot for this video. My c1500 1995 is leaking in that same spot and I didn't know why until now.
Thanks
Thanks for the video! Ive got the same problem in my 98’ silverado
Thanks for the great video. I will be checking my cover to make sure its sealed.
You the man that would never crossy mind thank you
Thank you Philip. my 2003 Impala is leaking on passenger side going to check Mine.
Thought I had it narrowed down now that I watched this video that’s one more thing for me to check that I wouldn’t have thought of thanks for the info
Thanks. Now I know what to look for. My blower motor filled with water.
Thank you sir had this go out on me tonight and your video was how I fixed it thank you thank you
Good video. I was going to open mine up and try to figure it out but now I know exactly where to look. Thanks!
well 3 years old post but I just went through car wash and water came dripping out fan below passenger dash.
Thanks so very much - these leaks have been driving me nuts for quite a while now.
Nice video, thanks for the help! It solved my probleM!
Very detailed and much appreciated sir!
Thank you for the video. I believe this is my problem exactly.
Yep I believe that’s it ! My 04 avalanche been leaking . I work at gm assembly up till 2019 maybe 2018 we have that same part . Now it’s not there .
good video that flapper you showed in the beginning my truck leaks from the driver side it my be that thanks didn't know about that flap
OtisspunkmeyerAxiomChannel mine does too did you find a fix?
thank you so much for this video i just noticed this problem in my truck i just bought it and found this problem
Thank you for the advice. Solved my problem
very good explanation, thanks brother
Had to do exactly the same thing on a 96 Cadillac Fleetwood. Now, if I could just figure out where the leak is on the driver’s side. There’s a rust streak just forward of the fuse panel and the carpet is damp. Hoping I just missed some debris in the cowl drain but I sealed the crap out of the plastic cowl so I need to figure out how to get at them from below.
Well damn! 98 tahoe just did this leak after the car wash. Better go investigate!
Great video. Great explanation.
Thank you so much having the same exact problem
I’m experiencing this issue on my 04 Silverado..thanks for the informative video..but did it solve the problem?
My 06 Chevy suburban z71 is gonna love me this weekend because I'm gonna have me some fun lords Wil.wish me luck guy's
what did you use to replace the dried out gasket? thank you for the video
I having the same issue with my 2008 chevy uplander. even though its not truck like yours, would it still be the same problem causing the leak?
The part looks to be worth about 5.00$
Would you happen to have the part # or what's the name of the part ??
This was not the final fix either. Looking down the road a bit I'm still having the problem!! Now it seems I have a small break in the rear glass ( the one that comes out) so I have it replaced and looking very close I see the window is not sealing the gasket. I put in a new one. It goes on and on.......
I have the same problem with the water leak. But my plastic seal is on and sealed good. Can water get in thru the other whole?
