Jonathan Smith Turning Tide for Michigan State Football; Where is Mel Tucker These Days?

  • Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith has had a lot to do since he took over for disgraced football coach Mel Tucker following last season. It feels like he has had to completely reset the once proud program ahead of the 2024 college football season.
    SPARTANS ARE SOLID AT QB
Jonathan Smith doubled down on local recruiting and the transfer portal. And he is bringing some of his best talent with him from Oregon State. That includes quarterback Aiden Chiles. This was his most important transaction. A couple of other Beavers followed him to Michigan State including lineman Tanner Miller and tight end Jack Velling. In all, we think up to 9 of Michigan State's 22 position starters will be kids that transferred in during the past year.
    WHERE IS TUCK?
By the way, do you ever wonder what happened to Mel Tucker? We will update you on all of his legal woes as he was still owed $75 million dollars on his contract at the time of his rapid departure from the school.
Despite all of the enthusiasm for Jonathan Smith and the Michigan State football program and the 2024 college football season, we think hard earned wins may be tough to come by. So we will give a game by game analysis of the upcoming college football and Big Ten schedule for the Spartans.
    WIN TOTALS
Finally we will compare how the Vegas win totals have moved from the last time we checked in February. Which Big Ten football team's line has moved the most? Find out here with Craig Shemon on Locked on Big 10.

As a life long Oregon fan, all i can say is.....Jonathan Smith is a pain. He was a pain to deal with as a qb and a pain to deal with as an opposing coach. He gets everything out of his players, and his teams are notoriously hard-nosed. He comes from a Chris Petersen, Mike Riley, Dennis Erickson lineage.
He is almoat always the most prepared guy on the field. One of 3 coaches to beat my Ducks in the last 2 years. The others are Kalen De Boer and Kirby Smart.
He will make oppsoing fan bases or coaches pull their hair out. He will find some weakness you didn't know you had and hammer it all game. And when you adjust, he will already have multiple
    re adjusts waiting.
All these games you list as 50 50....are probably more like 60 40 or more in his favor.
Also, his teams dont give up in November. They get better. I won't be surprised at all if they win 6 or 7 games this year. Ill take the over ty.

I am a long time Michigan fan and season ticket holder. I attended the M vs. MSU game in East Lansing last year and actually felt sorry for the kids on the Spartans team. I've never seen a football team in such disarray. Coach Smith seems like a very good man and I think he will do a great job.

Brother, he won 10 games in 2022, last year he could’ve 100% won 10 games again if he didn’t already have 1 foot out the door, he took over one of the worst schools in the power 5 and had 3 straight winning seasons, and his recruiting and nil he’ll be able to do at msu is beyond what he could do at Oregon state, don’t be surprised if he wins 9 to 10 games a year brother

Of players who would have started this year, they lost 3 on defense and 2 on offense to the portal. Also lost 2 O linemen and a D rush end to graduation. The vast majority of portal losses were guys who were unlikely to be in the 2-deep.
Most importantly, the coaching staff is totally new this year (except WR coach), and most of the staff came with Smith from Oregon State.

MSU is recruiting in the top 50 after having a huge program scandal and a horrible past 2 years. It’s crazy how after 2 down years you think a historic program like MSU will just fade when Michigan had to go through a whole decade rebuild before being relevant again. During the Dantonio era MSU was recruiting top 25, if they are even a little consistent they can get back at that point. Not to mention how much the university is investing in the program. More than ever before.

IMO, them being "little brother" has nothing to do with their roster or record. When they were on that little run of theirs, they were STILL little brother. It's because of that school's inferiority complex. Even when they are on top of the hill, they STILL believe that they are not as good as UM. It's their mentality that will always make them little brother.
