    As a Michigan fan, I believe this coach will get the Spartans back on track! It is truly best for our state when both teams are good. In particular, this guy can coach QB's which votes well for MSU. Seems like a class act and a great hire!

    I really like when coach Smith said Rossi will run the defense. When your good at one side of the ball it's always best for head coaches to let the opposite side coordinator to run that part of the team.

      Well you put it like that with objective facts, I admit I was wrong. Tucker is better than Smith. Crazy me not distilling the comparison to a single metric because, as we all know, that win-loss is the single and only measure of a coach's acumen Thanks for sharing some light on that. West Coast guy... Once his QB graduates or enters the draft, then what does Coach Smith do? And if he wins a lot of games with his QB, won't he consider a bigger program, like one in the $EC? He reminds me of Lincoln Riley. Hope I'm mistaken.

      To Coach Smith's credit, he kept Harlon Barnett in EL. I read initial reports that the was told to take a hike. I think that was smart. Coach Barnett has the respect of the returning players, so as a continuity matter, Coach Smith made the right decision. He also kept Courtney Hawkins. Not so happy, though, with Malik Carr's transfer to Houston. He was one of the few bright spots last season.

    • @Oziot
      @Oziot 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Washington already has a head coach for the foreseeable future, though. And why make that move? Washington’s moving to the B1G anyway - which MSU is already a member of - and it’s not like State couldn’t offer him just as much as Wash would - if not more - if they did find themselves in a bidding war. And as far as resources are concerned, they’re on equal enough footing - so I doubt that would move the needle.

    Anyone concerned about him blindly handing over the defense to Rossi? That was a bit disconcerting. He didn't have any preference for scheme on D and basically was going to have faith in his DC. Maybe that's how guys like Ryan Day do it as well, but that's certainly not complimentary football.

      At Oregon State, yes. I’ve seen plenty of people - mostly Michigan fans - pointing to his losing record to prove a point. But context matters; he took over a program that, during its prior season, only attained one win. And he essentially resurrected them from the dead, as OSU isn’t exactly a powerhouse where winning comes easy. But sure, with the shallow analysis of just his overall record, of course it seems like a lackluster hire.

      @@Oziot - there's nothing "contextual" to 34 losses. Nothing. No great coach has that many blown games in such a short period of time. I'm just saying - MSU is happy with a .500 at best coach calling him a "home run" that tracks perfectly with the lack of respect they get and rightly deserve.
