I’m incredibly scared of bugs to the point where I am watching this while keeping my phone away from me but I’m trying to get over my fear for them and having them being portrayed as silly little bugs is definitely helping a little! I hope I can get over my fear soon so I can appreciate bugs a lil more like you do!
CICADAS!!!!! god i am so jealous, i wish i had cicadas where i lived. well, we do have one here technically, but it hasnt been seen or heard since 2000, i think theres a plan for a reintroduction though so thats exciting! but to just go out and see them like that must be a treat!
@@crangejo yeah, thanks!!! if its done this year, it wont be known if the reintroduction has worked until 2030 when the adult cicadas emerge. still exciting, and its always great having something to look forward to. :D
I love cicadas, they are also my favorite insect! One of the broods emerge when I was a kid(I think it was 2011) and they were all around our recess area. I didn't have any friends when I was young so I was ecstatic when these little guys started emerging out of the ground. I got the reputation as the "Cicada Kid" at my school because I would go around and collect them and put them on my body. Kids would run away from the sight of me because I would be covered in cicadas. I didn't care though, they were my little pals, I loved just chilling with them. I got made fun of a lot but that was probably one of the happiest moments of my childhood. 11 years later I have an even deeper appreciation for them, to me being submerge in the ground dormant only to emerge as a little flying freak is the best allegory I could describe my life as being trans lol. I love the way they look they are like a Godzilla/Ultraman Kaiju. In commemoration of the double brood I plan to get them tattooed on my chest.
I found a snail outside yesterday after it rained. I've never seen a snail in person before and it made my whole month. pretty big one too. I love silly little creatures
Oh my, I’m happy you found one! I rarely remember seeing cicadas in my area, but I remember them coming out when I was in the first grade and seeing a bunch of baby cicadas all over the plastic houses that were in my daycare’s courtyard. They actually looked quite similar to this. I wonder if it’s them…
i always knew that cicadas only come out after several years but it never occurred to me that we would be keeping track of that? i find that very intriguing
delighted at seeing how beautifully this is shot, and holy shit that's gotta be a badass camera, the image is so rich in detail and the colors are soo pretty
maybe they're ok when theres like a couple but when there's like hundreds of thousands, possibly MILLIONS (im not researching that) in my state alone they kinda BUG me
i love bugs !!!!!! also sorry if this is a weird comment but omg ur voice is so lovely to listen to like u have such a pretty voice if that makes sense 😭😭 anyways ur so cool and i am loving the videos you’ve been posting, hope ur enjoying it as well! 🩷 (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
I was nervous when I heard they’d all be out because my only encounters with cicadas before was them randomly running out of the ground really fast, which is a little freaky, but these broods are smaller and chiller and more colorful, I really like having them around. I’ll miss them next year.
I don't live in a place where there are cicadas, but when I was really little we happened to be back east during a cicada season. I found a dying one and carried her around like a little pet. We kept the dried out corpse until just recently because it was very pretty. Wasn't this type though, it was pale green.
when i was in like 3rd grade me and one of my friends found an absolutely gigantic cicada on the edge of the playground and we got scared and ran away cuz it was so big and creepy looking lol. now i wish i could go back and pick it up and inspect it more cuz idk what species it was, but it was like a good 6 inches long
i love how bug fans are all extremely excited to see a little dude

at 2:56 , the cicada with the "fucked up wings" was either caused by molting incorrectly or some predator attacking it. hope that helps
Such a beautiful vid, Astrid. Love the educational value and the camerawork. Thank you for sharing
Thanks!
the cicedaning is upon us
me n these bugs are so similar i also spent 17 years underground
