@@Artemis0713 I still use an older mechanism, I could probably simplify it with some of the newer redstone stuff. I currently use a minecart loop and detector rails to operate the sequence. The rest is an inner wall of glowstone (since redstone lamps tend to cause servers to lag in large numbers) with an outer shell that matches the lighthouse. Then sticky pistons move the outer shell in a wave like sequence to simulate the light spinning.
When people "complained" about the sound, they weren't saying to change it. Minecraft is a noisy game in general, what's needed is some way to dampen excess of sounds or even mute things in a proximity outright. Got a super loud mob farm that produces 200 skeletons a second? let us dampen the noise. Got TNT dupers producing 500 TNT a second? Let us dampen the explosion sound. Got a giga-piston door that uses 2*10^64 pistons? let us dampen the noise. Changing the sound fixes nothing. It's still obnoxious, and now it sounds worse than the original piston sound, despite being "less noisy."
@@gungy_vt what vision? They don’t have a fucking vision. Every time they make an update they pull it out of their ass on the spot. The best part about the sound design of anything in games is that its SUPPOSED to make things seem grander than they actually are. Yes we are just people behind a screen moving blocks around but with sound design like the piston it makes a player think that what they are working with is a big deal. A piston is able to move INSANELY HUGE MACHINES. You can make mechanical farms, flying machines, giant doors with LARGE BLOCKS OF METAL, with pistons. Therefor the sound has to match that. Another thing, rudimentary pistons in real life don't sound like those wood cereal bowls all over tik tok????

I think that once again mojang tried fixing a very old issue the most mojang way possible. The issue : pistons are sometimes too loud. Normal way to solve this : make the piston quieter or add a slider sound for pistons (just like noteblocks) Mojang way of solving this : hu change the piston sound to a totally different that is less audible.
Pistons went from sounding like a big machine moving something heavy to a passive-aggressive light switch. I could understand lowering the sound, if it's too loud. But that sound was satisfying when you build any kind of redstone machine. Like dominoes falling into place kind of satisfying.
Revolutionary idea: since the concept of sound was already implemented with the Warden, why not make a variant of the piston, crafted using wool, that is silent? It could work without triggering sculk sensors, and with a quieter sound to them, or none at all. Do we really need to come up with new content ideas for them now?
You’re giving yourself too much credit, this idea just sounds like unwanted bloat to me. No one is actually gonna take their time to use this when there’s already a solution, volume sliders. You gotta be careful with adding random stuff to vanilla.
@@Alex-02 thing is, the optional use of a volume slider/silenced piston is much, much better than being forced to listen to the new piston noise. You can use resource packs to change the sound back, but that's quite a few more steps than potential in-game alternatives. Also, changing random stuff for the worse is definitely worse than adding random stuff to vanilla, and the latter is half of what Mojang does (which still adds up to next to nothing)

It’s more likely that this is just Minecraft’s downfall, I mean eventually every game has to have it, Minecraft’s pretty old at this point and has topped the most selling game charts for multiple years in a row, it’s lifetime is pretty much over and we’re just seeing it wither away into irrelevancy at this point.
@@BenjamintYT If that was true, EA's madden games wouldn't sell as well as they have. Minecraft's community growth has seen significant decline with microsoft's additions to the game and hindered it's longevity.
The sound theoretically fits It's definetly something you'd hear from an object made of wood like a door, trapdoor or fence gate, and the piston head is, also, made of wood. The problem is that not only the piston isn't entirely made of wood but also the blocks it moves don't get accentuated. With the old sfx you clearly hear that it's a composite machine of wood and clobble pushing around blocks, the new sfx sounds like gears turning, which is weird because there pistons aren't known for having gears.
Tbh I really loved the old sound cause for me, whenever u had a piston door the sound make it feel like a futuristic door with bunch of technology put into it. Now... it sounds like a skeleton

The old sound was mechanical and heavy, the new sound is like slightly wet wooden boards. It made me recoil when I heard it because the change was so drastic
Instead of just adding a volume slider for redstone blocks so that people that find the piston to be too loud can just turn the volume lower, they completely replace a very fitting and iconic sound with whatever this crap is. I really hope they revert this change.

How is not hearing it, more than 2 blocks away a bad thing? It needs to be quiet for secret bases. What is the point of a secret base, if the sound will echo through the entire world, for everyone to hear? I love the new sound.
My problem with the new piston sound is that they doesn’t really fit the aesthetic. Piston are these large bulky machines and the original sound emphasized this. I mean it sounds kinda slimy so it would partially fit with the stickly piston although the mechanical noise isn't there at all.
Mechanical sounds would fit for something like gears or at the very least an engine piston... Minecraft pistons look and act more like hydraulic or pneumatic pistons so the sound feels completely off...

Just install the quiter pistons vanilla tweaks resource pack. No need to change the sound
I have made multiple lighthouses with really impractical redstone to power them. But I can't imagine how you do it with pistons? How does that work
@@Artemis0713 I still use an older mechanism, I could probably simplify it with some of the newer redstone stuff.

Minecraft is a noisy game in general, what's needed is some way to dampen excess of sounds or even mute things in a proximity outright.

The sound theoretically fits
It's definetly something you'd hear from an object made of wood like a door, trapdoor or fence gate, and the piston head is, also, made of wood.
The problem is that not only the piston isn't entirely made of wood but also the blocks it moves don't get accentuated.
With the old sfx you clearly hear that it's a composite machine of wood and clobble pushing around blocks, the new sfx sounds like gears turning, which is weird because there pistons aren't known for having gears.
it sounds more like a quiet pneumatic cylinder to me personally
but with the whole theme of the new update, gears could become more relevant
It's so much better than the earrape tho
and there are mechanical pieces made of- not wood- which are the moving parts
It sounds too weak. There is much more force in a piston than in a trapdoor.

Pistons now sound like legos
My problem with the new piston sound is that they doesn’t really fit the aesthetic. Piston are these large bulky machines and the original sound emphasized this.
