KTM Duke 690 - Better Than The Yamaha FZ07? My Ride, Review & Thoughts...
Today I'm bringing you a ride, review, and impressions on the 2016 KTM Duke 690. I had this bike a while back (it was a quick flip). This was my first time ever riding the Duke 690, and only second time riding a KTM. I have to admit the single cylinder thumper engine took a bit of getting used to in the sport bike set up. I ride my drz400sm all the time but still wasn't ready for the KTM. In addition to bringing you my thoughts and impressions, I'll also share how I think it compares to the Yamaha FZ07. I'm a fan of both, but for different reasons. Enjoy!
KTM duke 690 ride, review, impressions, vs yamaha fz07, is it fast, pros and cons likes and dislikes honest review

One point I didn't touch on in the video is the suspension. Based on my experience and some research, the stock KTM Duke suspension is far better than the Yamaha FZ07. So, if you're into the canyon carving, that's another reason the KTM may be the better choice. Let me know below which one you prefer! Thanks for watching!

Jon, real small but important note. As a filmmaker, I notice this in all of your videos. Fixing it will bring your channel to the next level. And that is sound. Make sure the volume is balanced throughout all parts of the video. It's extremely hard to watch when the sound is silent, then you crank up the volume and next shot you're full volume. Example - 2:35 moment. It is very easy. Just make sure to lower or boost the volume so it always sits almost at the top of the audio meters in your editing software. I can help, if you want, it's real quick and will make a huge difference. Wish you all the best! Long time viewer :)

Thanks for the feedback, brotha! I'll be investing in some upgraded gear here soon. My gopro and lapel mic adapter are constantly giving me issues. Ive gone through about a dozen different lapel mics and adapters and have yet to find one that works consistently without cutting out and having audio issues.

Great review and I’ve been waiting for your thoughts composed to the FZ07! I had the opportunity to try one out too in New Mexico. (My vlog #43). It’s refreshing to see your thoughts are so similar to mine! I guess it surprises me that the power and torque were way higher in the power band then most thumpers I’m used to. I found it much harder to wheelie than my expectations. Thanks again!

  • @Uninfluenceable

Also, the reason that it's not easy to wheelie is because this bike is chocked down to around half the horsepower you claim. Yes, the 690 with a full race exhaust, airbox mod and tune can made up to 70 (on a good day, maybe), but realistically when stock as this bike is with stock pipes and restrictive air filter and super lean map I doubt it's making form than 38-40hp. Single cylinder bikes are super hard to make emission compliant, and because of that manufacturers nuder the shizz out of them to comply and just assume your gonna uncork it yourself. This is very common in the thumped world

Looool 38-40? Hahaha whaaaat ? The 690 duke 08 did 60 hp on the wheel, my 690 duke r 2011 with full evo 2 does about 75 and I hit easily 200 on the Speedo, you really don’t know shit

The older 690 Engines have their problems with the rocker arms and a few with the output shafts, but if you check the rocker arms regularly you can prevent problems. Halve the oil change intervals from 10000km to 5000km ( I dont know the Miles intervals). This prevents the rocker arm problem even more. Check your oillevel every 1000km, because it is normal that the engine burns some oil. If you keep this in mind KTMs are solid bikes. The newer Euro 4 engines are even better and dont have problems with the rocker arms anymore.

@@JonsMotoGarage I wasn't trying to trash you or your video but I watched it because I'm getting ready to buy a street bike and I've narrowed my search to the Duke 690, FZ/MT-07 and the SV650. I wouldn't even be considering the Duke if not for the fact that I can buy a new 2018 for more than $2,000 under MSRP. My comment was due to the fact that there was zero ride time given to the FZ07, and (IMHO), there was too much commentary about wheelies and not nearly enough commentary about directly comparing the two bikes engines, suspension, brakes, ergonomics, powerband, handling dynamics, braking, maintenance intervals, etc. I wish you would've gotten into more detail and ridden both bikes. It also would've been nice to see you ride the bikes on a twisty road that requires some good lean angles. That being said, I understand that this video is your production and you have the right to put anything in it you want. I was hoping for more detail from someone that has ridden both bikes. On the positive side, the resolution on your video is excellent and you have a very nice collection of bikes. Cheers.
