Is it completely okay to just weld and remove the baffle from stock exhaust on the 390 and ride it without any mapping ? Will it affect my power/engine/top end anyway in the long run ?

yeah, its because you don't even need a set there is 2 different pieces in the given toolset so you can just do it with what's provided.

5:45 That is actually a really smart thing. Not everyone has two of the same socket or C-spanner so using two different sized nuts/bolts is really smart.
I love my 390 Duke! It is the most fun bike to ride over most of the other smaller displacement bikes. Nice work Yami!
Facts. I fell in love with mine on the test ride. I've ridden a lot of the common smaller bikes and this one is the most fun in my opinion.
I want my first bike to be able to handle 2 people up a canyon. How do you think this 390 would do?
@@guywholikescheese97 depends on how heavy both members are combined. Also depends on how long you plan to ride for. The pillion seat on the duke is not known to be the most comfortable place to be. It can do it but don't expect to have a ton of get up and go if you're talking 300+lbs of people on board.
I sat on one at a dealer, but it felt like I was falling forward and I was literally squeezing my two captive nuts. Do you have that same issue?

I've had the Duke for ~12 months and ~10k miles and I love it the more I ride it. It makes such a great beginning bike because it has the capabilities of a "bigger" bike in a very manageable package. So as my riding skills have been improving I've grown to understand the Duke more and it has in turn taught me valuable lessons. I recently clicked the rear-suspension a notch tighter and it really improved the highway handling and sensitivity of countersteering.
This 13 and 12 setup is good, honda does 12 and 14 on chain adjusters because some people own a single kit of tools with single wrench of each size.

The duke is an awesome bike. It’s my first and perfect for younger people like myself who start riding. Especially here in Belgium where we have smaller roads and highways. You convinced me to buy a slip on as my seccond upgrade. The first was the rokbagoros tailtiddy. Love the vids papa yams keep it up
I used to have an MT07LA (the beginner friendly version sold in NZ and australia which is 655cc and 52hp) and now I have a Duke 390. The Duke is so much more fun to ride. It's a sporty little bike whereas the MT07LA feels more like a cruiser and wallows more in the corners.
they actually had a Duke at my MSF and I rode it for a while but then switched to a different bike for the test for fear of stalling too many times. Once you get past that, it's great. The instructor consistently grabbed the duke for demonstrations
I ride the 2016 duke and put about 30.000 km on it during the first year, and I am loving every second of it

OMG I literally just bought the exact same one for my vitpilen 401 (wich is pretty much the same bike) and didnt know if it was worth it and you can't imagine my joy watching this cause I know now that I havent wasted a whole lot of money :) :)

I’m 6,2 250lbs and rode my 390 duke a 7 hour round trip on the highway traveling at 75-80 to visit family for Easter. I’m also in Texas. I live in Denton!
I was kind of set on a cruiser/cafe racer style bike like the rebel 500 or a royal enfield for my first bike, but after watching this video with a KTM dealer near me, I think I've changed my mind. The styling and energy of the Duke 390 just seem so fun and appealing for me to ride around town and enjoy short scenic rides in the warmer months.
You guys have sold me on the duke with that slip on. That sound is outstanding XD

I rode all of last season with the baffle out of my leo vince exhaust. Was fun and lovely to hear, but for this season decided to put the baffle back on. I do hear it a bit less than I did without the baffle, certainly only hear rushing wind when on the highway, but it's all good. Great system with or without the baffle regardless.
Just got the same exhaust for my Vitpilen 401. FYI the box had a mechanic-pick in it, nice touch from Leo Vince😁👌

My duke 390 sounds damn near the same and all i did was drill out the baffle from the stock exhaust and its amazing. $15...
Did the same when I owned the Duke ... It takes some trouble but it saves a lot of money

LOVE IT! When I did my 390 exhaust I found out KTM did the 12 and 13mm so that you could do that with only one wrench set! #BleedOrange
Tip for next one, do the stock pipe sound clip the day before that way you just dig in without worrying about a hot exhaust
The first gear torque on the baby Duke is what made me buy it over a ninja 400 or a cbr 500r, little guy feels like it wants to launch to the moon.
Clutching it up in first makes it pop up as fast as a big boy bike. Super fun

Love the little Duke. I had the 1st gen 390 as my first bike, which looked great in it's own way. I bought it with an Arrow exhaust which sounded great too. Ultimately I sold it because I am surrounded by highway with 70 mph speed limits and it just felt like it was punishing the engine commuting at those speeds every day. Great city bike though!

@@ImaYam Thanks, I know what you mean. PS. The ECU should be a +5 and extend the power band up to 12k rpm. Should make the bike less wimpy in 6th gear?
That Leo Vince is the perfect replacement pipe for the Duke 390 and I won't be satisfied until I get one on my Duke. The mirrors , exhaust and brake pedal are the only annoying thing about this great bike.
IXIL Silencers exhaust (dual hyper flow) would look amazing on that bike... I have one on my Honda CB500X and it looks and sounds great (especially with the baffles removed). 🤩

Even cheaper than a slip on is using a 40mm core drill and just cutting out the baffle in the end of the stock exhaust. It sounds fantastic and its super cheap.

Nice, I have been kicking around the idea of a slip on for my Duke 390. I know the RC390 is “tracked” out but a comparison between the two would be cool. Maybe a track day and street comparison?
The duke is just as track capable if you want it to be. Just a different riding posture.

Did you lose any power on the low end.. because I had one last week and I could feel the power lost(Ninja400Ex) so as I put the stock exhaust back on I got the power back
13 and 12 means one set of wrenches can get the thing loose... if it were both 12 youd be worse off.
Ktm is usually pretty good about really good tool kits but they won't give you more than one of the same sized wrench.
The tool kit that comes with the bike has a combination 11/13 and a 10/12. And comes with the allen for the clamp
On mine I got the mivv no kat tube and an arrow racetech with linker tube for the exaust and the no kat tube. Riding without the db killer I can see flames sometimes but pretty good supermoto sound
I guess I am an absolute hoonigan..lol. Running straight shorty pipe after the cats on my FZ1...lol. So loud and obnoxious.... lol. I love it
Hey yam! I own the exact model duke 390 and I slapped on a akrapovic carbon series slip-on. It sounds perfect. Not too loud under 4000rpm and screams on the higher end. If you get a chance, try it out. You will not regret.

13 and a 12mm is so you don't have to go out and buy another 12 or 13 wrench when you don't have a socket in that size too

Hey, Yammie. Installed a g.p.r racing deeptone inox. Any idea if I need to remap it or is it fine on a 1 cyl. ?
The stock exhaust doesn't look bad really, but it's sooooooo unbelievably quiet in that test footage... Is the header down to the slip-on one piece, or could you get a mid-pipe to remove the collector and retain the stock muffler as a bargain basement option?
A tap with a flat head screw driver and mallet will often also break that weld for the baffle if its only a small one and you don't have a dremel.

FYI, THE 390 stock pipe is perf tubed, get a metal worker to remve the end cap, cut out the restricter an fit a small piece to fit, instant freeflow....

PSA - That weld on the BD killer (baffle) is compulsory by law in EU for Euro 4, many remove it but you can get in troble for it, even in Italy where Leovince is located
If the baffle can just be screwed out it can be homologated only as Euro 3 or Race Only. Same case if no baffle is there it can only be race only.
You will see them on the road but you might get a fine for it, except if you are a Harley, Harleys don't count, don't ask why...
